"What the hell?"
Shay turned the corner and saw Sirius standing in the hallway.
"Sirius? What the…"
Shay heard her mom charging up the stairs.
"Come on get in my room. NOW!" she whispered while pulling him in her room.
"Get in the closet and don't say a word."
"Word," Sirius said as she slammed the door on him.
"I’m going to beat you when you get out of there," she whispered loud enough so only he could hear.
Her mum threw the door open.
"What was that?" she asked, her eyes darting around the room wildly.
"Um… I think it was the neighbor shooting at the birds again." Shay said trying to act as innocent as possible.
Her mum stared at her as though trying to read her mind.
“Hurry up. We’re not going to wait for you.”
She whipped out of the room and Shay could hear her muttering something about filthy muggles. Shay quickly closed the door and locked it too.
"You can come out now."
As soon as Sirius walked out, Shay gave him a bone-crushing hug.
"I thought you were going to start the physical abuse now?" Sirius asked with a big grin on his face.
"Oh, I'll save that for when you really deserve it. So what brings you here? Besides trying to get yourself killed," Shay asked with a curious look.
"I’m renting a flat in London. Come live with me."
Shay's jaw dropped, "I…uh…wait. How the hell did you get a flat?"
"My uncle Alphard croaked and he left me all his money," he said and sprawled out on her bed.
"Wow, Sirius. Sorry about Uncle Alph but good for you. You really want me to live with you? You do remember how annoying I can be," Shay asked playfully.
“Of course I know how annoying you are. I like that you’re annoying. It keeps me on my toes,” Sirius said while fiddling with a loose string on his shirt.
“Well, I suppose I’ll come. It sounds better than going to your parents house,” Shay agreed with a croaked, nervous smile.
This made Sirius bolt up, "Really, you'll come?"
"Of course I will, you are one of my best friends. Just help me get my things together quick. My mum will be back up here any moment," she said.
Sirius opened her wardrobe and started throwing clothes at her.
“Hurry up and put them in your trunk. I’m assuming you’re already packed for school,” Sirius said while his head was contained in the wooden box.
“My clothes are all I need. My key to my safe at Gringotts is already in my trunk. How much is rent?” Shay asked as she caught the last of her clothes.
“Don’t worry about it,” Sirius said casually and shut the wardrobe doors.
“No. Don’t do that. I’m not going to live there for free. I have money, Sirius. Don’t give me charity when I have the means,” Shay said and locked up her trunk.
“Well then you can be my maid if it means so much to you. Now hurry up before we get caught.”
Shay shook her head and sighed.
"So what's the flat like?" Shay asked.
"Oh, it's nice. Could use a women's touch, but that's why you're here," he said and grabbed her trunk.
"How many bedrooms?" Shay asked crossing her arms.
"Don't worry, there are two. I wouldn't want to sleep with you anyway. You already beat me up enough during the day; I don't need that while I'm sleeping."
"Oh hush!" Shay said and punched him in the arm.
"That's what I'm talking about! You punch like a bloke," he complained, rubbing his arm, which actually hurt a little.
Shay rolled her eyes.
"So how are we going to get out of here genius?"
"Well I'm going to disapparate and you're going to hang on to me" Sirius said with a smug look on his face.
"Let's get going then!" Shay said very excitedly.
"I can't believe this is actually happening! Pinch me. I want to make sure that I'm not dreaming," Shay said and Sirius pinched her arm.
"Ow! That hurt!" Shay said and rubbed the abused skin.
"Sorry. You told me to do it," Sirius said and shrugged his shoulders.
"Well, I forgive you then. Come on, let's go already."
Shay grabbed onto Sirius and shut her eyes. She had apparated before but she didn't like it. It made her feel sick. She didn't have her license yet because she didn't turn 17 for another 3 days. August 7th to be exact. Suddenly she felt a pressure and felt extremely dizzy. Shay opened her eyes and caught herself from falling. She looked at the place Sirius had brought her to. It wasn't too extravagant, but to her it was the most beautiful place she had ever seen, besides Hogwarts. It was because she didn't have to live with her family anymore.
"I wonder if this was how Damien felt when he got out?" she said and started to look around.
Sirius smiled and asked Shay if she liked it.
"Like it? Sirius I absolutely love it!" Shay said then hugged Sirius again and gave him a peck on the cheek.
"Here let me show you around" he said and grabbed her hand.
The kitchen and the living room were connected. The kitchen had granite counter tops. It also had light wood cabinets, white and maroon diamond flooring and white walls with gold trim. The living room had hardwood floors, black leather furniture, and maroon walls with gold trim. It was all very much Gryffindor.
"Well that's going to be a hassle to get ready in the morning," Shay thought to herself as they passed the bathroom.
They walked down the hall a little more until there were two doors, one on both sides.
"Well on the right is my room and on the left is yours," Sirius said opening her bedroom door.
"Merlin!" Shay said covering her mouth.
"Is there something wrong?" Sirius asked with a concerned look on his face.
"No, it's just my room. All this stuff...you bought it all for me?" she asked in shock while looking around the room.
"Well just consider it as an early birthday present."
“Sirius…” Shay gave him a torn look.
“Please don’t argue about this. I want to do this for you. The bed you had at your parents was for a child. I want to help you, so let me. I don’t think you realize how much money Alphard left me. The Potters have been good to me. Let me be good to someone else,” Sirius said with an endearing smile and leaned against the doorway.
“I’m going to pay you back. But thank you. This is too much, but it’s great.”
Shay had brought her trunk into her room and unpacked. After she was done she laid on her bed. It was so comfortable; she never wanted to leave it. She heard a knock on the door.
"Yes" she said opening her eyes.
"Can I come in?" Sirius asked.
"Sure, I need some good company."
Sirius strolled in and plopped down next to Shay.
"Sirius I just want to thank you for bringing me here. It means the world to me," she said putting an arm across his chest.
"Shay, we have wanted this since we were little."
"Remember that tree fort we built, so we could run away and live in it?" she asked with a laugh.
"Yea and we were going to have a bunch of pets but no children and James convinced us to let him move in too. Then there was that one fateful wind," he chuckled, remembering the old times.
"Damien's going to be jealous, he didn't get out until after he was done with school," she said.
"How is he doing?" Sirius asked looking at Shay.
"He's doing well actually, he just moved over to the US, New York City if I remember correctly," she said while looking at a picture of her and her brother.
"That's good, I always liked him, and he was always nice to me."
"I would ask you how Regulus is, but honestly I don't care" she said closing her eyes.
"Good cause I don't either."
"Sirius we need to set some rules" she said and rolled over to face him.
“First, if one of us is out without the other and out past 1:00, message so we don't worry."
"Understandable." Sirius said nodding his head.
"Pick up after yourself," Shay said giving him a stern look.
"Ok, the same thing goes for you."
"And last but not least, when you have a girl in your bedroom, lock the door. I don't want to walk in on anything because I know you well enough. You have a different girl almost every night," she said getting up.
“Well then I should tell you that a met a girl at the pub last night. She might be over tonight or tomorrow,” Sirius said quietly.
Shay raised an eyebrow at him playfully.
“Another muggle?” she asked coyly.
“They can be very frisky,” Sirius smiled.
“You’re a pig,” Shay said and rolled again so her back was facing him.
“Oh come on. You know I’m kidding,” Sirius said and wrapped his arms around her, resting his chin on the crook of her neck.
“I’m living with a man whore.”
She tried to be as sullen as possible but it was hard with him wrapped around her.
“Well that just hurts,” Sirius said and pulled away a little.
“Ugh, just lock your door Sirius. Unfortunately I’ve seen you have sex before and once in a lifetime is more than enough.”
He smiled down at her and for a second Shay thought he was going to lean down and kiss her.
“The door will be locked. But you just let me know when you’re ready and I’ll have the door wide open,” Sirius said playfully and traced his fingers up her small, yet muscular arm.
She scoffed at him, “I’m not a virgin, Sirius.”
“But I’m the best at what I do. You haven’t had sex until you’ve had sex with me.”
Shay saw his eyes light up in laughter.
“I’ll inform all the boys then.”
Shay woke up not knowing where she was. Then she realized that she in her new, wonderful home. Shay got up with excitement buzzing through her body. She went across the hall to Sirius's room. He was sleeping soundly in his bed. Shay then took a running start. She did a flip onto his bed and started jumping on it like a trampoline.
"Wake up sunshine; it's already 11:00."
"Ugh…leave me alone," Sirius said covering his head with his blankets.
"I don't think so. When have I ever left you alone?" Shay asked and got off the bed.
"That’s beside the point. Leave. Me. Alone!"
Right then Shay took hold of Sirius's mattress and flipped it up. As she did that Sirius went flying off the bed.
"OW! What the hell was that for?!" he exclaimed while rubbing his head.
"Well next time you should get up!" she said crossing her arms.
"I'm going to get you back for that," he said with a sinister smile on his face.
"Then I guess you won't be getting any food, because I know you can't cook to save your life."
"What?! You're not going to deprive me, are you?"
"Well no, but now I know your weakness. So get up and I'll make pancakes," Shay said walking out of his room.
Sirius came out of his room wearing only his boxers. Shay started laughing her ass off.
"What?" Sirius asked with a confused look.
"Do you realize you have a bunch of guys' faces on your boxers?" she said in between breaths.
"It's the Chudley Cannons as a matter of fact!"
"Well I just didn't know that you swung that way."
Sirius tackled her and started tickling her.
"Say that I'm the most irresistible and sexy man ever!"
"What?" he asked tickling her even more.
"The pancakes are burning!"
"Well then I guess you better get up."
"Yea, thanks for the info," Shay said and pushed him playfully.
"By the way, if you're going to have a quidditch team on your underwear, then at least have a good quidditch team," Shay said and was attacked by Sirius again.
"So what are we doing today?" he said sitting on the table after he let Shay up.
"Um…I'm going to write to everyone, tell them that I'm here and I'm fine. Then I'm going to write to my parents, even though they probably don’t care that I’m gone."
"Well you don't have to write the gang, I already did. I invited them over tomorrow for your birthday."
"Sirius, you're too sweet. Whose all coming?" she said and put the pancakes on a plate.
"The usual. James, Lily, Remus, Niki."
"What about Peter?"
"He's still on vacation in France but he sends his love." Sirius said with his mouth full of food.
Shay had Sirius clean up the dishes while she took a shower. When she got dressed, she got a piece of parchment and quill and started writing to her parents.
Dear Arcturus & Elladora,
I have left that hell you call a home. I have no intentions on coming back. You two have tried your hardest to turn me into someone I’m not and when that didn’t succeed, you shunned me as if I wasn’t from the both of you. You even turned my own sister against me. I hope your demons catch up to you and you feel the way I felt for 17 years. Neither of you will never put me down again. You both are now dead to me. By the time you receive this letter and find me I will be 17 so you can do nothing about it.
Have a nice life,
