Hermione awoke to loud knocking on the front door.
She covered her ears with her hands. She never knew that after drinking so much wine that a small noise could sound like a ferocious storm.
‘Who’s knocking so loud at this time of night?!’ She thought wearily.
She checked her clock which read 10 to 12 am.
The door shook again with the pound of someone’s fist.
“I’m coming. I’m coming.” Hermione said, making her way to the door, rubbing her eyes along the way.
When she opened it, she was surprised to see…
“Harry? What—are you doing here-i-in the middle---of the night? Is everything okay? Did something happen?”
Harry stood anxiously in the doorway, trying to find the right words to say.
“No, Hermione. I need to talk to you. Can I come in?”
Hermione opened the door all the way. “Yeah. Of course.”
Harry walked in and was amazed by Hermione’s place. He had never been here before. It was a soothing atmosphere to be in; compared with Cho’s house, which now startled him.
“Have a seat.” Hermione said, walking over to the couch and seating herself down. “Can I get you…anything? I mean, j-juice..uh—water…or um..”
“No, thank you. I’m fine.”
“So…” Hermione said, nervously, “What did you want to talk about that made you come to my house 12 in the morning?”
“Oh, I’m sorry that I disturbed you. I didn’t mean to…It’s just that…” Harry sighed, not able to finish his sentence.
Hermione walked over to him and placed her tiny soft white hand over his, timidly.
“It’s alright. You can tell me anything Harry.”
“I know.” Harry said, finally looking at her straight in the eye. “That’s why I came here. I trust you Mione.”
They looked at each other for a few seconds before feeling the awkwardness.
Hermione cleared her throat. “So Harry…what’s wrong? What’s upsetting you so much?”
“Well…it’s Cho. I was at her place when…” Harry stopped himself. He didn’t know what to say. How was he going to tell Hermione about what he saw. Would Hermione think he’s crazy? Or would she take his side? There was only one way to find out for sure.
“Yes, Harry? You were at her place when what happened?” Hermione asked distractedly, wanting to know if it was over between Cho and Harry.
“I…um…saw something. I found this secret room while Cho was out at the store buying spices for dinner. I walked into it and saw…pictures…videos…notes…candles and roses…”
Hermione seemed to be confused by where Harry was getting at. Maybe Cho was planning to surprise Harry with a secret room for his birthday. But that still couldn’t explain why he was so shaken up by the memory of the room.
“The room” Harry continued, “Everything in there…was about…me. The pictures that were hanging…they were of me and Cho. There were videos of me doing things. She recorded me Hermione. She was videotaping me before we were dating. I was so frightened by what I saw in that room. Why would she do something like this? It’s bizarre! It’s crazy!”
Harry couldn’t go on further about the details. He wanted to knock the memory out of his mind.
Hermione sat beside him speechless. She didn’t know what to say. Cho Chang…little Miss Perfect was videotaping her own boyfriend, Harry Potter? She couldn’t believe it. Maybe that explains why she was so jealous of Hermione being around Harry all the time. Cho wanted Harry for herself.
Hermione gulped before speaking. “Harry…I honestly don’t know what to say. I can’t believe Cho would do something like this. I don’t even know why she would do something insane as this. Are you…okay?”
“Well…I did say something to break up with her, but I…”
“So you did break up with her then?” Hermione said, trying to keep her heart from pounding outside her chest.
“Of course I had to break up with her. Honestly Mione…can anyone stay with a person as crazy as that? I mean, I loved Cho. I really did, but after what I saw…my feelings just didn’t feel the same anymore. She feels like a…stalker to me now.”
“How did she take it?”
“Not so good. That’s why I said that I…um…have feelings for you.”
“What?” Hermione asked, thinking she didn’t hear him right.
“I told Cho that…I had feelings for you since Hogwarts; that’s why I don’t love her, instead….I love you.”
Hermione went blank. She could hear her mind thinking wildly, ‘Did Harry just say that to me? Did he break up with Cho to be with me? Does he really love me? I must be drunk! I did have an exceeding amount of wine today.’
“Hermione.” Harry said, waving his hand in front of Mione’s face, bringing her back to reality. “Are you okay?”
“Huh? Oh, sorry. I was just thinking about what you said. Cho…didn’t she say anything about that?”
“Of course she did, but I just kept telling her my feelings for you and then I left…in time, luckily.”
Hermione felt her face flush bright pink. ‘Harry loves me? Is it true or a dream?’
“I couldn’t take it. I had to do something and the moment was just perfect. I’m sorry to bring you into this Hermione, but I needed help and you were the first person that came into mind. Will you help me?”
Hermione smiled. “Of course I’ll help you Harry. After all, you’re my best friend.” She didn’t want to make it obvious, but she wanted to know for sure if Harry did love her more than a friend, or was she becoming paranoid herself?
Harry smiled back and leaned forward; embracing Hermione in a hug. Hermione didn’t see that one coming. They held each other for a while before either one of them pulled away. Harry didn’t seem to budge and Hermione didn’t want this moment to end either.
After what seemed like an eternity of hugging, Hermione was the first one to slowly pull away, thinking she was taking advantage of Harry. But as they pulled away from each other steadily, their cheeks brushed against one another gently. Hermione closed her eyes to enjoy the touch, but Harry was the one who couldn’t resist the kiss. He leaned forward while Hermione’s eyes were closed. Their lips joined in a slow and pleasant kiss. At first, the kiss was lingering, but after a few seconds, the kiss started to become intense. Harry wrapped his hands around Hermione’s waist, gradually bringing her closer to him. Hermione’s hands made their way to Harry’s head; where they smoothed through his black, flimsy hair.
After long moments of kissing, Hermione was the one who pulled away first. They were both breathing heavily.
Harry blushed and realized that he may have moved too fast.
“I-I’m s-sorry Mione. I d-didn’t mean to. I understand if you want me to leave.” Harry rose to his feet immediately, but Hermione grabbed at his hand and gestured him to sit down.
“I don’t want you to leave Harry. I’m not mad at you.” Hermione said, reassuring him. “Besides, I didn’t mind.” She said, blushing.
Harry let out a laugh. It practically startled Hermione.
Harry couldn’t believe how adorable Hermione looked when she blushed. He couldn’t believe that he had never noticed her beauty before; her soft-angel skin; brown bouncy hair; luscious tasting lips; intense brown chocolate eyes; and her innocence.
“And what’s so funny Mr. Potter?”
“To be honest…you look so cute when you blush.”
Hermione blushed again; giving Harry a soft punch on the shoulder. She, too, let out a giggle.
“Harry?” Hermione said, cuddling next to him. “Did you really feel that way about me ever since Hogwarts?”
Harry smiled, brushing Hermione’s hair with his hand. He had never thought about it before; he only thought of Hermione’s as a friend; nothing more. But now, he finally realized, the real love in his life was right in front of him the whole time…it was his best friend. He had really been denying it to himself. He was blinded by love when he was with Cho. He only saw love, but not the true love of his heart.
“Let’s just say that I was arrogant not to figure it out before.” He let out a deep sigh. “Love can really make you blind.”
