My name is Amanda McKin; I am 69 years old and nurse in the children’s ward at a London hospital. I live alone, I have no children and I have no intentions of retiring anytime soon. And every day I fear for my life.
The truth is my name is not Amanda McKin. My real name is Lyra MacMillan and I am member of the Nobel and Most Ancient House of Black by marriage. I am the younger sister of Melania MacMillan who married Arcturus Black whose son, Orion Black, was the father of the late Sirius and Regulus Black.
No you won’t find me on the family tree, if I were ever on there I would have been blasted off a long time ago. You see I am a trader to the purebloods, my family, and most of all I am a trader to Lord Voldermort. Why am I a trader of the Dark Lord? Because I betrayed him to the one man he feared the most. I was in Voldermort’s most inner circle. I knew all his secrets, well almost all of them. I knew what he was planning long before his Death Eaters ever did.
I am betting you are now wondering how anyone could possibly have been that close to He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named. I was so close because, to simply put it, I was Voldermort’s lover. No he was never in love with me, I just believed he was. For years I believed his lies and for years I loved him with everything I had. Until one day something snapped and I realized that he never loved me, he loved my power, that he could never be capable of love, lust yes, but never love.
It was as if my eyes had been opened and I realized what Voldermort was doing was wrong and went to Dumbledore for help. That was when I became a trader. For years I passed information to Dumbledore and the Order of the Phoenix. But things can only be hidden from Voldermort for so long, eventually he found me out. Dumbledore helped to stage my death and then sent me into hiding acting as my Secret Keeper.
Up to this point I have used magic as little as possible and lived under the alias of Amanda McKin. But with the recent news of Dumbledore’s death I am no longer safe. Voldermort is back and I certain he knows I am still alive. With this knowledge my time may be short. Therefore I will write my story for everyone to read. I will write the story of one shy, unloved, quiet girl who fell in love with a monster.
This is my story. The story of Lyra MacMillan.
