Hermione Granger returned to her kitchen at about 2.30 in the afternoon, after yet another pointless interview of ‘The Golden Trio’ for Witch Weekly. Sitting herself down at the oak dining table she shuffled through the letters that Draco must have hastily thrown there on his way out that morning. Placing them into neat piles for herself and for him she set about making herself a cup of coffee whilst opening each one wandlessly and holding it before her to read. After scribbling a quick reply to Harry, confirming her and her partner’s presence at his seashore retreat the coming weekend, she sat herself in front of the fire and pulled a well-thumbed book from beneath the coffee table.

After a good four or five chapters, Hermione lifted herself from the sofa to begin her and Draco’s evening meal. Deciding upon salmon in citrus butter she prepared the sauce and set the potatoes to boil. In the meanwhile she retired upstairs to her bedroom where a crucial eye found her reflection in desperate need of taming. Her stubborn curls had fallen from their place in her ponytail and the perfectly applied make up she had been subjected to for her photo shoot that morning was beginning to suffocate her. Removing her clothes she stepped into the shower and begin her cleansing routine.

Refreshed once again she changed into a simple blue skirt and a white tee before alighting down the main staircase barefooted. When reaching the atrium she did a double take, for she swore she had seen Ginny at the door, but upon closer inspection she found no one, although a letter had been dropped on the step.

Strolling into the kitchen she put the salmon to steam and prepared the vegetables, knowing Draco would be apparating at the end of the drive in scarcely fifteen minutes. She opened the plain white envelope and began to read, her eyes growing wide.

I've been waiting all day for ya babe
So won't cha come and sit and talk to me
And tell me how we're gonna be together always
Hope you know that when it's late at night
I Hold on to my pillow tight
And think of how you promised me forever
(I never thought that anyone)
Could make me feel this way
(Now that you're here boy all I want)
Is just a chance to say

A distinct popping noise distracted Hermione from the setting of the table, and she turned to look out of the window. His handsome presence was noted and Hermione began to plate up their meal. Upon entering the atrium he called to her, to which she replied ‘Get out of those restricting clothes Draco, dinner will be ready in a little while.’ Getting a bottle of chardonnay from their extensive collection she tugged the cork out with a pull of her wand and poured their glasses as Draco strolled into the kitchen, now wearing dark jeans with a white shirt untucked and unbuttoned.

Strong arms encircled her waist and she felt herself relax into his body before giving him a quick kiss and seating herself at the table. Conversation, as usual at the dinner table, flowed with ease between the couple. Draco showed a keen interest in how the interview and photo shoot had gone and inquired about Harry and Ron’s health. Hermione in turn asked him how work had been and laughed alongside him about his newest colleague, an old school acquaintance who by the sounds of it had not changed at all.

By the end of dinner the atmosphere was relaxed and as the two cleared the table in silence Hermione looked across at Draco with tears in her eyes. He was busily moving everything over to the sink, before donning the marigolds and scrubbing away at them. As she wiped the table she wondered at the truth, was this gentleman, the man she had fallen head over heels for; the man who encouraged her, laughed with her and asked for her hand in marriage capable of deceit?

Get Out, (leave) right now,
It's the end of you and me
It's too late (now) and I can't wait for you to be gone
'Cause I know about her (who) and I wonder (why) how I bought all the lies
You said that you would treat me right but you was just a waste of time (waste of time)

Hermione moved into the parlour, taking the chardonnay bottle and ‘Jane Eyre’ with her. Following her, and seating himself beside her was Draco. In silence he took a book from the table and she opened hers, removing the letter which had served as her bookmark that afternoon. Placing it on the coffee table she could just read the first line; ‘Hermione, I hate to do this but there is something I need to confess to you…’

From the corner of her eye she saw his stray to the paper, and then to her own in shock as he recognised Ginerva’s clumsy handwriting. A look of bewilderment struck his regal face and his head fell forward, the book in his hands falling to the floor with a resounding thud.

Restraining the tears that were so close to being released she picked up the book, returned it to his hand and asked, “Why would she lie to me?”

Tell me why you're looking so confused
When I'm the one who didn't know the truth
How could you ever be so cold
To go behind my back and call my friend
Boy you must have gone and bumped your head
Because you left her number on your phone
(So now after all is said and done)
Maybe I'm the one to blame but
(To think that you could be the one)
Well it didn't work out that way

A short shrug of his shoulders showed his inability to answer, a characteristic Hermione had not come across before. She asked once again with him answering with the same response. Her frustration was rising and she took a deep breath before asking him to look at her. When he did not her resolve snapped, slapping him sharply across the face until his silver eyes came to rest upon her hazel ones.

“After what you have done I think I deserve the right to a little respect, as you have paid absolutely no consideration for it these last few months.” she whispered spitefully. “What do you have to say for yourself?” she commanded him to answer, her fragile voice rising as quickly as her fury diminished, replaced instead by sorrow. Draco’s hand reached out for her own, which quickly whipped out of his grasp, “Don’t touch me.”

“Let me explain Hermione, just hear me out!” he pleaded.

“I don’t want to hear your pathetic excuses Draco, just get out.”

“Hermione”

“LEAVE”

Get Out, (leave) right now,
It's the end of you and me
It's too late (now) and I can't wait for you to be gone
'Cause I know about her (who) and I wonder (why) how I bought all the lies
You said that you would treat me right but you was just a waste of time (waste of time)

Twenty excruciatingly long minutes later Draco shuffled down the staircase, and back into the parlour. “Why won’t you just give me the chance to explain?” he questioned. Hermione closed her eyes and tears leaked from beneath the dark lashes there. “Because” she told “I cannot bare to hear you tell of how she stole your heart, of how you couldn’t resist her. I cannot stand to have you confirm every deceitful moment that I have imagined in my head. And most of all I cannot sit here and listen to you try to justify the act which broke my heart,"

I wanted you right here with me but I have no choice you've gotta leave
Because my heart is breakin'
With every word I'm sayin'
I gave up everything I had
On something that just wouldn't last
But I refuse to cry
No tears will fall from these
Eyes
Get out

“Now please Draco, leave me alone. I can’t stand to see you at the moment. If you truly love me I expect you to have sorted out all this silly nonsense with Ginerva before she leaves for Romania on Friday and I will see you at Harry’s on Saturday. If you don’t, then I don't expect to hear from you again, and I wish you all the best for the future. Goodnight’

Get Out, (leave) right now,
It's the end of you and me
It's too late (now) and I can't wait for you to be gone
'Cause I know about her (who) and I wonder (why) how I bought all the lies
You said that you would treat me right but you was just a waste of time (waste of time)
