Chapter 9
Working with a rival

Lydia opened her eyes and saw nothing but darkness. She could tell that she had been blindfolded, she tried to pull it off, but couldn’t move her arms, she was tied up as well. “Hello?” she called out, “is anyone there?’

The answer she received was something that sounded like a moan coming from behind her, and then a voice saying her name. She recognized it immediately and breathed a sigh of relief. “Are you okay?” she asked him.

“Well aside from the fact that we’ve been kidnapped, blindfolded, tied up, and the fact that I have never been more scared in my entire life, I’m good.” Michael answered.

“Tell me, what happened?” she asked.

“You mean why we are here or what happened before I blacked out?”

“Second one”

“Well I was just sitting on the couch waiting for you, when I heard a knock at the door, I got up to answer it but then the door opened and this guy walked in and started attacking me. I tried to fight him off but he was too strong, then he shoved this cloth under my nose, and that’s the last thing I remember before waking up in here, how about you, you okay.”

“Well…I’ve been better I can tell you that.” She answered.

Suddenly, she heard a door slam, and footsteps coming towards them. They stopped directly in front of her she looked up hoping to see at least his shape through the blindfold, but saw nothing. He knelt down in front of her, “I see you’re awake.” He said in a low voice.

“Who are you?” Lydia asked softly.

He chuckled, “Claudia asked me the same question just a few hours ago.” Lydia could feel a fear rising in her chest, he’s gotten to Claudia

The mole seemed to know what she was thinking, because he said, “Don’t worry, I haven’t kill her…yet, I simply went to meet her new parents, and get to know them a bit. In fact, I brought some of her new friends with me.”

Lydia didn’t quite understand, new friends? Then she heard what sounded like groaning, and then a female voice she didn’t recognize said “What’s going on, where am I?” Then Lydia heard a slap and girl shriek. “Stop it” Lydia yelled, “Whoever that girl is she has nothing to do with this.”

“Au contraire my dear Lydia, she has been a part of this since she sat down next to Miss Claudia at the ice cream parlor, and this adorable little four year old girl I have with me also is involved as well, since Claudia is the one that saved from near death.”

Lydia didn’t know what he was talking about, it sounded as though this guy had been following Claudia, but why? “Tell me,” she began, “Why is killing Claudia so important to you, because she’s best of us and your new bosses want her dead, or are you scared of her because you know that she will stop at nothing to track you down and when she does, and you know she will, that she will kill you?”

Again he chuckled, “Lydia, my dear my superiors have nothing to do with this, this is not an assignment that they gave me, and to answer you’re other question, I am not now nor have I ever been scared of miss Claudia, this…”

Without warning, he ripped the blindfold off her face and looked her right in the eye. Now she could see his face, she gasped.

“…is personal.”

Suddenly, they heard a knock on the door. Claudia left the bedroom, walked up to the door, and pulled it open to find-

“Andrea?” Claudia said surprised as her rival pushed past to get inside.

“I came to help you with this mole situation.” She said dryly, “don’t think it’s because I suddenly like you or anything, I’m only here because Dunsworth made me come-who are these people?” she asked when she spotted Harry, Ron, Gerard, and Hermione, who by now had woken up and was standing next to Harry.

“Well, the man with the black hair and glasses and the woman are my parents, Harry and Hermione, and the redheaded guy is-

“Wait a minute, did you say parents?” Andrea asked, “maybe nobody’s informed you of this Claudia, but we don’t ha-

“I KNOW WE’RE NOT SUPPOSE TO HAVE PARENTS, CAN WE PLEASE JUST CONCENTRATE ON THE SITUATION AT HAND??” Claudia shouted, losing her temper.

“Calm down alright, that’s why I’m here, so Dunsworth told me this guy’s got Lydia, Liam and some other people and are holding them hostage in hopes of luring you to a certain place and killing you.”

Claudia stared, “Dunsworth said that?”

Andrea nodded.

“How does he know these things?” she wondered aloud.

“He knows everything.” Andrea answered in an ‘isn’t-it-obvious’ tone.

In the background, Claudia thought she heard Ron whisper something that sounded like “Dumbledore” but she ignored it. “Okay, what else did he say?” she asked.

“Well, he said that you had an encounter with the mole several hours ago and let him escape, although that’s to be expected from you isn’t it?” she said smirking.

“Andrea, I don’t have time to deal with your shit right now. If Dunsworth sent you to help me, then I’d appreciate it if you would just shut the hell up and start helping me.”

“Hey, don’t you dare talk to me like that, I could leave at any time and you can deal if this all alone, I don’t care about your stupid friends anyway.”

“I don’t care if you don’t care, I can’t do this alone okay, I ne- She stopped, she knew that she would never tell Andrea she needed her help, but Andrea smirked.

“Why did you stop?” she asked.

“No reason” Claudia answered.

“You were going to say that you need my help, well, I’m not going to help you unless you say it.”

Claudia would have liked nothing more than to kill Andrea, and if she had had a loaded gun with her, she probably would have. Instead, she let out a long sigh and said, through gritted teeth, “I need you help.”

Andrea put a hand up to her ear, “I’m sorry, I didn’t quite catch that.” She said smiling at the expression on Claudia’s face.

Claudia stared at her and then said, “I need your help.”

Andrea grinned, “Very good.”

Just then, Claudia’s cell phone went off, without even looking at the I.D., she turned it on. “Hello?”

“Hello Claudia, I bet you’re wondering where your little friends are right now” the mole voice said. “Well don’t worry, they’re not dead, at least not yet.”

“Where are you keeping them?” she asked fiercely, even though she knew he wouldn’t answer, at least that’s what she thought.

“I am keeping them in a warehouse by the ocean, way out of London, by the time you get here, I don’t know how many of them will still be alive. Miss Lucy Kelley is very stubborn, I had to drug her again, but don’t worry, she should wake up in a few hours, maybe.” He laughed and then went on, “Little Angela has been very quiet though, it’s strange, I would have thought she’d have woken up by now. Michael is still blissfully unaware of what’s happening, but poor Lydia, I think she’s in shock.”

“What did you do to her, and what about Liam?” Claudia asked.

“Liam is alright, and I did nothing to Lydia, not yet. I’m waiting for you and Ms. Diamond to show up, you can bring your parents and Mr. Martin too if you like, but please leave Mr. Weasley behind, he put up too much of a fight before, and I don’t have time to deal with that.” He answered. “I’ll see you later.” Then the line went dead.

Claudia put down the phone sat on the couch. how does he know so much? she asked herself, he knew Andrea was here, he knew about my parents, he knows everyone’s names, how can this be possible, has he been tracking me?

She remembered that he said Lydia was in shock, why would she be? She wondered what he was doing to them, the more she thought, the angrier she became, he had drugged Lucy and now something was wrong with Angela. Maybe it had something to do with saving her life, but for whatever the reason, Claudia had become a bit protective over the child. It sounded like he hadn’t done anything to Michael or Liam which she was happy for. She loved Liam so much, she didn’t know what she would do without him. “What did he say?” Andrea asked suddenly.

“He said everyone’s alive, Lydia’s in shock for some reason, and…Angela…”

“What? What about Angela?” Ron asked stepping towards her.

“Who’s Angela?” Andrea asked.

“His daughter, and he said that he drugged her but she won’t wake up.”

“Okay, we need to get down to that warehouse and kill this guy now” Andrea said.

“You’re right let’s go,” Claudia said, she turned to the others, “You guys stay here, we’ll be back later.”

“No way, we’re coming with you.” Hermione said.

“Wow, that’s the first time you’ve stopped crying today Hermione,” said Ron.

“Shut up Ronald.” She yelled at him.

“You people can’t come, you’ve never faced this kind of danger before.” Andrea said.

“Young lady, I have faced more danger than you will in your whole life, now we are coming, and that’s that.” Harry said, everyone else nodded in agreement.

Claudia could see that they would not be able to convince them otherwise so she decided she had to let them come. “Okay, fine. Now, it’s – she looked down at the watch that Liam gave her last year for Christmas, “5;00, we can probably get there in a few hours.”

“Or we could just apparate.” said Harry.

“Appa-what?” asked Andrea.

“I’ll explain later let’s just go.” Claudia said.

She walked over to Harry and put her hand on his arm, she told Andrea to do the same, who did even though she clearly didn’t understand why, when everyone was ready, they apparated away.

They landed in front of a run down warehouse on a dock. Claudia could see that Andrea had gone pale in the face. “How- how did we-“ she stammered.

“I told you, I’ll explain later, now come on.” Claudia said, with that she walked towards the door and the rest followed her. They entered the warehouse and looked around, there was only a little light so they couldn’t see much. Claudia and Andrea both pulled their guns out just in case. “Are you sure this is the right place?’ Andrea asked Claudia.

“Positive.” Claudia answered.

They looked around for any signs of life. After a few minutes of finding nothing, Claudia heard Harry call out, “Hey, over here!”

Everyone ran over to were they heard Harry voice. They found when kneeling down next to the small body of Angela. When Ron saw her he ran right over and picked her up. “Angela, sweetie, wake up, daddy’s here.” He said to the child, but she didn’t stir.

“Let me see her.” Claudia said. She took the child from Ron, who was reluctant to let her go and checked her pulse. Thankfully, she had one. “She’s still alive.” She announced and they all breathed sigh for relief. Claudia turned her head to see the rest of her friends all unconscious. Lucy’s body had been propped up against the wall. It looked like she was still breathing. Michael and Lydia were tied to chairs; both their heads were slumped over. As Gerard went to try and wake his sister, Claudia tried to wake Lydia. “Lydia,” she said. “Lydia wake up, please wake up.” Then Lydia stirred a little.

“Clau- Claudi- She tried to say.

“It’s okay Lydia I’m here; you’re going to be okay.” Claudia said comfortingly.

“No…Claudia…” Lydia said, “Th-the mole…it’s”

“It’s who; did you see who it is?” Claudia asked urgently.

“It’s…” Then she lost consciousness again.

Suddenly, Claudia heard footsteps from behind her. “My, you got here fast.” said the voice from of the mole.

Slowly, Claudia stood up and turned slowly around, unlike before he was no longer wearing a mask. Despite the darkness she could see his face clearly. She gasped. It was-
