When Lily awoke she was in the Hospital Wing and Sirius was sitting in the chair beside her. Lily feebly lifted her wrist and looked at her watch. It was 4:30. She was relieved, she had only been out for a half hour.
“You're awake,” Sirius said with a smile.
“What are you doing here Black,” Lily said in a tired voice, she was not up to dealing with him right now.
“Ah, Miss Evans, you're up, well here, just drink this potion and you're free to go, it appears that you collapsed from exhaustion, do try and get more rest,” Madam Pomphrey said in a crisp voice, walking over and handing Lily a potion. Lily was still confused, exhaustion, but that didn't make sense. If it was just exhaustion, then why had she felt the pain in her upper stomach? Nevertheless, Lily took and drank the potion.
“Mr. Black will see you back to the Common Room,” the strict nurse said before promptly leaving.
Sirius helped Lily up and they started on their way back to the Common Room. Lily still pondered about the pain in her upper stomach, and thought that it seemed like Madam Pomphrey had rushed her out. She also thought about what she had just done, and found that she just couldn't stand to think about it anymore. Once the got to the Common Room Sirius stopped Lily from going up to the dormitory. Lily knew what was coming, she had expected it the whole way back.
“Lily, why were you in here so late, and why were you crying, and why did you really pass out, and most of all, why has James been avoiding you for so long,” Sirius said, acting, well, serious for once.
“Just leave it alone, Black,” Lily said, looking down and wiping her eyes which seemed to be at a permanent leak recently. You'd think that one person could only cry so much before running out of tears. Lily thought she must have held the record.
“No, Lily, I'm sorry but I won't, my best mate had loved you since first year, and now he's avoiding you, and I know that you haven't been acting yourself lately, and I want to know why,” Sirius demanded.
“Why should I tell you,” Lily asked him.
“Because you can trust me,” Sirius told her.
Lily looked at him, “But some things can't be forgiven, and I can't take you hating me as well as James hating me!”
“James could never hate you, he's just confused, about whatever it is, I'm assuming he found out about whatever it is that you've done that can't be forgiven,” Sirius asked. Lily just nodded.
“Fine, but if I tell you then you can't say a word during my whole explanation, just let me tell you all of it before you even say a word, agreed,” Lily said firmly, this time it was Sirius's turn to nod.
“Well......,” and Lily told him everything. About the raid of her house over the summer, about how Voldemort had threatened to kill her family, about how she was forced to get him a snake, then how James found out about this and had been avoiding her ever since, the she told him how they had killed Rose anyway, and made her do another job, she told him how horrible she's felt about herself since the whole thing started, finally she told him about the pain in her upper stomach and the collapsing. Sirius just sat there, as promised, throughout the whole thing. When she finally finished, he let out a soft “wow.”
Lily panicked, she was definitely on edge these days, “see! I knew you would hate me! And now you're probably going to go to Dumbledore and I'll end up in Az-..”
“Lily! Lily, relax,” Sirius interrupted, “of course I don't hate you, and I very much doubt James does, he'll come to you just give him time, look, can I talk to you later, it's late you see, and I um, got to go, I'm really, really sorry!”
“Oooookay,” Lily said a little suspiciously. Why would he leave so abruptly, especially after she had just confessed what she had? He waved at her and walked up the boy's dormitory. Lily slowly made her way up to her dormitory, to exhausted to even think.
Yet again, there on her bed was a letter waiting for her. The thing was it wasn't just one letter. There were three letters all on her bed and waiting for her. Lily suddenly couldn't breathe. Three letters? At least one of them would be horrible she just knew it. She picked them up with shaking hands. She opened the one that had ended up on the top of her pile. The first thing she did was look at the bottom, to see who it was from, to her surprise it was from Petunia.
Lily,
I will always blame you for Rose's death. You are a cruel freak, who can't even protect her family, and you know magic! I hate you, I truly do. I want you to never return to our house again. I don't want to ever talk to you or even hear you're name again. Stay away, I mean it.

Lily couldn't help but read it with disgust and grief and guilt. It was disgusting that she had a sister that would write such horrible things, it was sad and made Lily fell guilty because she knew it was true. She didn't deserve her family. They were great, well except perhaps, for Petunia, and she was a freak. She had never felt so lowly of herself in her life, and this was just after the first letter. She took the next one. She panicked as she realized it was from the Ministry of Magic.
Dear Miss Evans,
A ministry official is requesting an interview from you. This official is releasing no other information, but is asking that you be in Hogsmeade, at Three Broomsticks, this next coming Saturday.

Lily actually had to gasp for air. There was an odd feeling in her stomach, they knew. They had found out. She would be going to Azkaban for the rest of her life for this, or worse she would get the Dementor's Kiss. Lily didn't think she had the courage to open the third. Nevertheless she did. She wasn't to surprised to find out that it was from Him, but just because she wasn't surprised, didn't mean she didn't panic. What if they were asking her to do another thing?
Dear Miss Evans,
If you are getting this, it must mean you have succeeded. But I warn you now if we find out that you have told anyone about what you have had to do, and if they tell Dumbledore, not only will I make sure your family is taken care of, you will be putting those individuals in danger. I expect you will hear from us again.
Death Eater
Lily glared at the letter. She knew that they were all getting a kick out of the new form of torture they were creating for her. She wondered if He was doing this to other people to. It was almost driving her mad, literally, and she had no doubt that that was the whole purpose of the whole thing. Lily threw herself onto her bed and screamed into her pillow, she couldn't take it anymore. She just couldn't.
~~~In the Boy's Dormitory~~~
Sirius sighed, thinking about all that he had just learned. He hated being serious, how much irony was in that statement? He couldn't think of a solution to Lily's problem. He closed the door kind of hard in is frustration.
“Sirius,” Remus asked in a sleepy voice.
“Nothing Moony, just go back to bed,” Sirius said quickly.
“Ok, hey if you see Lily, tell her that Dumbledore is planning a prefect meeting in his office tomorrow evening,” and with that Remus went back to sleep. Without even knowing it he had made everything, if possible, even worse than it already had been. Sirius walked determinedly over to his best friends bed. James was restlessly sleeping. He was muttering something that sound suspiciously like Lily, but he had been doing that a lot lately.
“Prongs wake up,” Sirius said impatiently.
“Whassamatter,” James said in an even more drowsy voice that Remus's had been.
“I need to talk to you,” Sirius said simply before dragging James out of his bed and down to the Common Room, where he didn't have to worry about being overheard, as it was 5:15 in the morning.
“This better be important, unlike the time you dragged me out of bed to tell me that chicken wasn't your favorite food anymore, and that it was beef tips,” James mumbled.
“No, no, this is really genuinely important, so you have to be listening to me,” Sirius said sharply.
“Alright, alright, I'm listening,” James said, still seeming groggy.
“Look you need to talk to Lily, because if you don't I think she might go mad,” Sirius declared.
This seemed to make James wake up. He widened his eyes, “do you know?”
“Yes I do, and she did it for her family, you of all people should understand that,” Sirius said firmly.
James bowed his head. “I know, I know, I was just so shocked. I know that I have to find a way to make it up to her, but why doesn't she just go to Dumbledore!”
Sirius filled James in with what he didn't know, and after that a lot more seemed to make sense to him. From that moment on the boys vowed to find some way to help Lily, and James vowed to himself that he would find a way to make up for his actions towards Lily.
