The Wedding

A/N: Yep ya’ll know what time it is! The Wedding!!!! This chapter is solely dedicated to my dream wedding, so please don’t knock on something that has been in my dreams for so long. I hope you guys enjoy. I am sorry for such the late update, but I have been going through some crazy writer’s block and have had no inspiration…that is until I heard this song and I knew that I wanted it to be the wedding song. Song title is “She” by Elvis Costello. After this bit of fluff more action is going to come your way, so watch out. Please review when you are finished and let me know what you think.

He paced back and forth wondering what, in Merlin’s name, made him want to go through with this. Never in his wildest dreams had he ever thought about himself getting married. Then she came into his mind. He knew that for her, he would face Voldemort and is goons again and then twice more to make a point. When he thought about his life, he knew that there was no life without her…his Hermione.

She sat in front of her vanity staring. Why her? Of all of the people in the world, why did he choose her? She was nothing special, frizzy hair, “Plain Jane” features, kind of on the skinny side (When she wasn’t pregnant) and way too bookish. Then she thought of him. He was famous, but he didn’t let it get to him. He was the only one to see her as her and never dared to change her. He made everything worthwhile and she cherished that. Yeah, he was the One…Her Harry.

Hermione sighed and wondered how she was going to coiffure her tresses for one day. She held up one of her curly tresses and sighed again. She was shaken out of her stupor when there was a sharp knock on he door. Confused as to who could be interrupting her preparations, Hermione opened the door. The first person she saw was Ginny coming to lend her a helping hand. The second woman was Mrs. Weasley coming to lend her expertise of weddings and the last person was an older model of herself.

“MUM!” Hermione cried. She jumped into her mother’s arms. “All this time! I thought you were dead.” Jane Granger smiled and hugged her daughter tighter.

“No, your headmaster had to put me into hiding since he found out that your father was, what did you call them, death eaters? Well, I couldn’t come back here because it had to seem like I was dead so that I could live, but as soon as I found out that my baby was going to be married, I insisted to come here.” She pulled apart from her daughter and took a good long look at her and saw that not only was her solitary child getting married, she was glowing beautifully from her pregnancy. “My, my, I see that getting married isn’t the only thing that I didn’t know.” Hermione blushed and sat down at her vanity again.

“I am so glad that you all are here, because I have no idea what I am doing!” The ladies all jumped at the chance to help her get ready for her big day. Ginny helped with the makeup. She didn’t add much because, and she told Hermione, she was beautiful already. It didn’t matter how she looked, Harry would appreciate her in a burlap bag. Mrs. Weasley helped by fixing her wild mane into an elegant twist so that her veil would fit perfectly on top of her head. The finishing touch was putting on the gown, assisted by her mother.

When all of the preparations were finished, the three women cried as they admired the finished product. Hermione was too nervous to think that she looked good, so seeing the tears didn’t help much with her confidence.

“It looks that bad?” she whined. Jane cleared her throat and shook her head.

“It’s not that, dear,” she touched Hermione’s shoulders and turned her to the mirror. “It’s just that you look beautiful. It seems only yesterday I was sitting in your nursery reading you a bed time story. I was so happy to have a baby, and now, my baby is getting married and having her own baby. You will make Harry proud, if you haven’t already.” She pulled a handkerchief from her sleeve and dabbed at the tears that started to gather at the corner of her eyes. Hermione continued to look at herself…or was it her? She looked like a complete stranger.

She subconsciously chewed on her bottom lip and actually bit herself as someone knocked on the chamber door. Severus Snape stuck his head in the door and informed the ladies that the guests are seated and it was time to start. As soon as he stepped out, Hermione went back to work chewing on her lip, as she grew more and more nervous. Jane handed her the bouquet and helped her daughter with the last minute fixings; makeup check, hair check and veil in place. One last hug was shared before the ladies lined up to walk the aisle.

Harry watched as the three ladies walked up the aisle wearing various shades of blue. He smiled knowing that Hermione was the next to come up the aisle with Arthur stepping in to give Hermione away. He was feeling a tad nervous knowing that the next time he walked out of the hall, he would be a married man; a man that is starting a family with his wonderful wife. Severus walked past Harry and walked to the conjured white grand piano and sat ready for the signal to start playing. Harry turned his eyes from his professor towards the Great Hall doors.

The doors opened and Hermione noticed straight away that someone was playing a piano and singing.

She may be the face I can’t forget
The trace of pleasure or regret
Maybe my treasure or the price I have to pay
She may be the song that summer brings
May be the chill that autumn brings
May be a hundred different things
Within the measure of a day

Hermione looked at all of the people that she past. Everyone was wearing a huge smile. She even noticed that some photographers made it into the wedding and they were happily snapping photos of the great boy-who-lived on his wedding day. She cleared that unpleasant thought out of her heard as she neared the front and locked eyes with her love.

She may be the beauty or the beast
May be the famine or the feast
May turn each day into a Heaven or a Hell
She may be the mirror of my dreams
The smile reflected in a stream
Inside her shell…

Hermione turned to hand her bouquet to Ginny and she noticed that Severus Snape, greasy git extraordinaire, was singing at her wedding (that was a surprise to more than half of the crowd there…including the Headmaster. In fact, Harry was the only one that wasn’t surprised by the impromptu sonata.) Hermione closed her mouth and turned back to Harry as Arthur placed her hand into Harry’s. They turned together and watched Severus play on.

She, who always seems so happy in a crowd’
Whose eyes can be so private or so proud
No one’s allowed to see them when they cry
She may be the love that cannot hope to last
May come to me from shadows in the past
That I remember ‘till the day I die

Harry looked into Hermione’s eyes and mouthed ‘I love you’. They seemed to be the only words that could truly express what he was feeling.

She may be the reason I survive
The why and wherefore I’m alive
The one I care for through the rough and ready years

Hermione, feeling the tears well up in the corners of her eyes, mouthed ‘ditto’ and smiled. She, not caring if it was planned, grabbed Harry’s hands, held him close and began to sway to the music. She just felt like dancing. Dumbledore smiled at the happy couple and watched them share a very special moment as the song ended.

Me, I’ll take the laughter and her tears
And make them all my souvenirs
For where she goes I’ve got to be
The meaning of my life is…
She

Severus stopped playing, stood up to hear the clapping from the crowd and walked over to Harry and Hermione. He shook Harry’s hand and Hermione kissed him on the cheek as a thank you (eliciting another gasp from the crowd) and he took his place next to Harry and James. The couple, once again, joined hands and turned to the Headmaster as he started the ceremony.

“Friends, I am pleased to be able to stand here and join two very special people today; Mr. Harry James Potter and Miss Hermione Jane Granger. What a joyous occasion it is that two souls that were meant for each other found each other, through strife and hardship. Both, being raised by muggles, have decided to make their own vows to each other. Harry if you please.” He indicated for Harry to start. Harry cleared his throat and spoke quietly so that Hermione could only hear. Little did he know that Albus, being the crafty codger, placed a charm on them so that everyone can hear what he had to say.

“I offer you, Hermione, all that I am, and all that I shall ever be. I offer all that I have, and all that I shall ever have. I pledge friendship, respect, faithfulness, understanding, and nurturing of body and mind. I pledge my love from this day forward until the day death comes between us. I promise to love you always. I promise to be faithful to you and to our vows. I will cherish and respect you. I will protect you to the best of my ability, even at the cost of my own life.” As he finished every eye in the Great Hall was misty. Hermione smiled wiped a few tears away and spoke her vows.

“I offer you, Harry, all that I am, and all that I shall ever be. I will protect you to the best of my ability, even at the cost of my own life.” When she finished, she was almost sobbing, too caught up in her own emotions. Harry lifted her hands to his mouth and kissed them as they turned to face Albus again.

The headmaster conjured a golden chalice and started the handfasting. He lifted the goblet above his head and chanted something in Latin that Harry couldn’t understand. [Dear, what is he saying?] He sent out to his bride. {It’s apart of the ritual, Harry. He is basically asking the spirit of Merlin to bless this union} Hermione replied. They continued to watch as Dumbledore lowered the goblet and saw that there was a clear liquid inside where there was none before.

“Merlin, himself has blessed this union. Is there anyone here that protest this joining?” Albus glanced around the Great Hall but saw no hands. He smiled and handed the goblet to Harry. Harry turned and placed the cup in front of Hermione, “Will you drink of this blessing?” Hermione smiled and drank from the chalice and repeated for Harry. He took a drink from the goblet and handed it back to the headmaster.

Albus banished the goblet and withdrew his wand. “redimio diligo manuum” everyone gasped as Harry and Hermione’s eyes flashed blue and white and as their hands glowed brightly. “The binding is complete! Harry, you may now kiss your bride.” Everyone in the hall cheered as Harry and Hermione smiled at each other, closed their eyes and shared a longing kiss. The ceiling in the Great Hall showed that shooting stars were falling the sky…even in the middle of the day! Albus smiled, turned the couple to face the crowd and announced, “It is my privilege to introduce you to Mr. and Mrs. Harry Potter!” The happy couple smiled and walked down the aisle and out through the entrance hall onto the main lawn where a large reception was waiting for them.

“And that was one of the happiest days of our lives.” I finished.

“What was the best day of your life?” Romulus asked.

“I would have to say that was when you were born. You made our lives complete.”
