Unacceptable (Paraphrased) Songfic Tutorial

The following is an example of a songfic that would NOT be validated. There is no actual story here. The text is merely a paraphrase of the song lyrics. Additionally, this story would not pass the 500 minimum word count rule. Song lyrics do not count toward the minimum word count needed per chapter.

Again, this is an example of a chapter that would be REJECTED.

Man in Black

Lyrics by Johnny Cash

Well, you wonder why I always dress in black,
Why you never see bright colors on my back,
And why does my appearance seem to have a somber tone.
Well, there's a reason for the things that I have on.

Snape knew they wondered why he always dressed in black. Why never wore bright colors. The wondered why he always looked somber. He cleared his throat. He had their attention now, and he wanted to tell them.

I wear the black for the poor and the beaten down,
Livin' in the hopeless, hungry side of town,
I wear it for the prisoner who has long paid for his crime
But is there because he's a victim of the times.

“I wear black because of the poor and those who have been downtrodden. I wear black because there are prisoners still locked away who are innocent victims.” Professor Flitwick gasped with horror, but Snape continued.

I wear the black for those who never read,
Or listened to the words that Jesus said,
About the road to happiness through love and charity,
Why, you'd think He's talking straight to you and me.

He wore black because some people never read and were filled with ignorance. Now they were starting to understand him. “Tell us more,” cried Professor Vector.

Well, we're doin' mighty fine, I do suppose,
In our streak of lightnin' cars and fancy clothes,
But just so we're reminded of the ones who are held back,
Up front there ought 'a be a Man In Black.

He supposed that things were pretty good these days. He could afford a nice car and fancy clothes, but he still remembered those who were held back, those who had died. He stood in front of them, a man in black.

I wear it for the sick and lonely old,
For the reckless ones whose bad trip left them cold.

So many were old and sick, so many had died, and he mourned for the lives that could have been, the hundreds of young men who had been lost every week.

I wear the black in mournin' for the lives that could have been,
Each week we lose a hundred fine young men.

He wore black for the thousands who had died, the followers of the Dark Lord who believed he was on their side. And he wore it for the thousands who had died, believing that their side was right.

And, I wear it for the thousands who have died,
Believen’ that the Lord was on their side,
I wear it for another hundred thousand who have died,
Believen’ that we all were on their side.

“Well, there's things that never will be right I know,
And things need changin' everywhere you go,
But 'til we start to make a move to make a few things right,
You'll never see me wear a suit of white.

He knew that things would never be right with the world, that things needed a lot of change before the world would be perfect. But until then? He would never wear white. He had sworn it.

Ah, I'd love to wear a rainbow every day,
And tell the world that everything's OK,
But I'll try to carry off a little darkness on my back,
'Till things are brighter, I'm the Man In Black.

And though he would never admit it, he secretly wanted to wear rainbow colors daily. And be happy and tell the world that everything was okay and fine. But until then, it was his task to carry the darkness. Until the war was over, he would be the man in black.
