How It Always Should Be

The air was filled with loud bangs which, for the first time in a long time, were a good thing. The bangs were coming from fireworks. Today was Ron and Hermione's long anticipated wedding day.
Ron had confessed his feelings to Hermione at the beginning of the last war after the late Albus Dumbledore's death, but the war was over now and life was starting to be the way it should, except for one thing.

Harry hadn't seen Ginny during the celebrations all last week after he had finally fulfilled the prophecy. Today during the ceremony was the first time he had seen her since the war had began as she was Maid of Honor and he was best man. She was just as stunning as ever, if not more so.

Harry broke away from the dancing and celebrating and walked off towards the lake. The wedding had been at Hogwarts on account of a special favor the ministry owed Harry. He breathed in the cold night air as he remembered all the happy memories he had here with Ron, Hermione, and ... Ginny.

"Typical Harry Sulking when every one's happy." A familiar voice commented.

"Hullo Ginny." Harry replied without even having to turn around.

"What are you thinking about?" She asked taking a step beside him he noticed that she had taken off her high heels and was now walking around barefoot.

"You" Harry said bluntly, shocking both Ginny and himself. They were silent for a moment.
"Ginny, may I have this dance?" Harry asked before he could stop himself.

"Yes." she answered turning to face him her warm brown eyes coming into contact with his own brilliant green ones. The old monster in his chest was on a familiar roller coaster ride.

"Wait a second" Ginny ordered grinning, and with a flick of her wand his shoes slipped off and walked away on their own, "Now we can dance."

Harry laughed as she put her arms around him. How he had missed this, just having Ginny's arms wrapped around him. The music drifted towards them. They didn't need to say a thing.

This time, This place
Misused, Mistakes
Too long, Too late
Who was I to make you wait
Just one chance
Just one breath
Just in case there's just one left
'Cause you know,
you know, you know

As Harry danced with Ginny he remembered how big of a self centered Idiot he'd been. He had tried many times to apologize and set things right, but he couldn't work up the courage to admit he was wrong.

He had the courage to fight off Lord Voldemort and his Death Eaters. But he couldn't manage a simple apology to Ginny. Life was really weird that way, but it didn't matter now that he was silently dancing with Ginny, listening to her swear occasionally as he trampled her feet.

That I love you
I have loved you all along
And I miss you
Been far away for far too long
I keep dreaming you'll be with me
and you'll never go
Stop breathing if
I don't see you anymore

Ginny couldn't believe what was happening. She had always wanted to know for sure that she had loved a man who had loved her back. He had been selfish. But she shouldn't have let him go.

She should have swallowed her pride and talked to him. That was her mistake, but she had a feeling that everything would be better now, because for once in her world things were getting better not worse. And that was a big improvement from the usual in the magical world for which she will be forever thankful.

On my knees, I'll ask
Last chance for one last dance
'Cause with you, I'd withstand
All of hell to hold your hand
I'd give it all
I'd give for us
Give anything but I won't give up
'Cause you know,
you know, you know

Harry, as though taking the song's advice, got down on his knees and held Ginny's hands in both of his saying, "Ginny can you forgive me for being a stupid prick? And if you let me I'll never leave you again."

Ginny rolled her eyes as she pulled him up to his feet. She gently creased his face and slowly their lips met, then their eyes closed, then at last their fingers intertwined. They were in their own private little world again, and they couldn't be happier.

"Does that answer your question?" Ginny asked as they started dancing again.

So far away
Been far away for far too long
So far away
Been far away for far too long
But you know, you know, you know

Harry looked like he was going to say something else. "Harry, If you bring up the past again I'll hex you." Ginny warned, resting her head on his shoulder.

Harry spun her around and then pulled her back towards him. She laughed softly; words could not describe how much he had missed that laugh these last few months.

Harry started singing along with the song. His singing was worse then Percy's (something she would have never believed humanly possible), but it didn't bother her for some reason. Instead of making fun of him Ginny started singing along with him, in an extremely loud voice.

I wanted
I wanted you to stay
'Cause I needed
I need to hear you say
That I love you
I have loved you all along
And I forgive you
For being away for far too long
So keep breathing
'Cause I'm not leaving you anymore
Believe it
Hold on to me and, never let me go
Keep breathing
'Cause I'm not leaving you anymore
Believe it
Hold on to me and, never let me go
Keep breathing
Hold on to me and, never let me go
Keep breathing
Hold on to me and, never let me go

"Say Cheese!" Someone exclaimed, getting Harry and Ginny's attention. They barely had time to look in horror at the speaker before the camera got a glimpse of their horrified faces.

Apparently, Harry's singing could be heard over all the clatter of guest's, the music, and the fireworks to boot.

In front of them all the wedding guests and the newly weds themselves, were laughing uncontrollably at them; Hermione was barely standing, Ron looked like he had just heard the joke of the centaury, while the rest of the Weasleys looked torn between horror and hilarity. Also Colin Creevy who was taking pictures for the wedding and the rest of the remaining DA present for the wedding were roaring with laughter at them.

"What do you think of our new life?" Ginny asked him as the crowd watched, the laughter subsiding.

"I wouldn't have it any other way." Harry whispered brushing some stray curls away from her face and pulling her into a much deeper kiss then before, ignoring all the cat calls and wolf whistles.

Yes, this was how life was going to be for Harry James Potter and Ginevra Molly Weasley. How it always should be.
