Part 1 - Beautiful Disaster

Draco Malfoy woke up with a groan. He rolled out of bed and pulled on a pair of jeans and a black hoodie.
"Draco, are you ok?" his best friend Blaise asked him.
Draco nodded. "I'll be fine," he said as they left their dorm.

They ate breakfast in silence. Pansy Parkinson was hanging off Draco's arm, chatting non-stop about insignificant things. She hadn't noticed that her boyfriend ate nothing.
"Will you walk into Hogsmead with me today, Drakie-poo?" she asked in a sickly sweet voice.
"You know what, I would Pans, but I'm not going today. I have, um, a big... potions essay due," Draco replied grogily.
"Oh, ok," Pansy said sadly.

After breakfast, Draco climbed the astronomy tower. He climbed under the railings, and stood on the other side, watching his classmates leave for Hogsmead. He could see Pansy leaving with Crabbe, Goyle and a few other Slytherin 7th year girls.

He watched them walking away, and a single tear rolled down his cheek. He wiped it away. He opened his mouth wide and screamed, the strong wind whipping through his hair. He wasn't screaming in pain, just screaming away all the emotions and feelings that were threatening to engulf him.

A stream of tears fell from his eyes, each one re-surfacing a memory.

His mother crying over his dead sister's body...

His father laughing when he'd heard that Sirius Black had died...

The Weasle and Granger snogging on the lawn...

His father's fist slamming into the side of his face...

Potter grinning as he was hoisted onto his teammates shoulders when they won the House Quidditch Cup...

His father killing himself after the defeat of The Dark Lord...

Blaise and the Weaslette dancing at the ball...

He climbed back over the railings and slumped in the corner of the tower. He didn't try to stop the tears any more, it wasn't worth the effort. He'd never told anyone the reason he couldn't summon a patronus - he didn't have a happy memory to draw on.

No one knew about his sister either. She'd died when he was fifteen. She was two years older than him, and had died of a muggle diesease, cancer. A fresh wave of tears escaped his eyes. What was the point of being able to do magic if you couldn't save the people you loved?

The door to the tower creaked open, and someone stepped inside. Footsteps echoed around the tower as the person ran over to him. His eyes were so clouded with tears he couldn't see who it was. A second person entered the room.

"What happened to him?" a girl asked.
"I don't know. He hasn't been himself for weeks," another voice replied. He recognised this voice - it was Blaise.

He heard a crack of thunder from outside, and raindrops splattered on the roof. He pulled his knees up under his chin and hugged them. It was freezing up there. The girl knelt down next to him, and brushed his hair away from his eyes. He recognised her now. It was Granger.
"What are you doing here?" he managed to croak at them. He still couldn't see them properly, and he was almost choking on his own tears.
"We're here to help you. I'm your best friend, and Hermione's mum is a muggle councillor now, she quit being a dentist. We want to help you," Blaise said.

They sat down on either side of him. Hermione handed him a box of tissues.
"Thanks," he muttered. He blew his nose and wiped away most of the tears.
"First things first," Hermione said. "Are you going to tell us what's wrong or not?"
"Maybe..." Draco replied.
"Blaise is very gifted at reading people's minds. You don't want us to force it from you, do you?" Hermione asked. Draco shook his head. "My mum told me that sometimes people don't want to say what's wrong," she said to Blaise. "Here, try writing it down," she said to Draco, handing him a notepad.

Well, this is stupid. Besides the fact that my dad's dead, my mum's stopped talking, my little sister's gone mad, I just don't want to be around. I'm a huge inconvenience to everyone, my friends, my mum, my teachers. No one wants me around, so why should I stick around here. The only girl I've ever liked is a stupid Gryffindor, and likes the Weasle anyway. My only real friend doesn't know what's wrong. I still can't accept that Maria's dead. She can't be dead! She was the only one who even cared!

He heard Hermione gasp as she read the paper. He closed his eyes and leant back on the wall. The tears had finally stopped. He could hear Blaise and Hermione muttering about him, but he couldn't distinguish the words they were saying. He knew they were talking about him.

A letter landed on Draco's plate at dinner. He didn't open it until he got back to his dorm, which was empty. Most of his fellow Slytherins were still in Hogsmead.

To Draco,

We wrote this song for you. I hope it helps you with everything.

He drowns in his sleep,
An exquiste extreme I know
He's as damned as he seems
More heaven than a heart could hold.

And if I try to save him
My whole world could cave in
Just ain't right
Just ain't right.

Oh, and I don't know know
I don't what he's after
But he's so beautiful
Such a beautiful disaster.

If I could hold on
Through the tears and the laughter
Would it be beautiful,
Or just a beautiful disaster?

He's magic and myth
As strong as I believe
A tradgedy with
More damage than a soul should see.

And do I try to change him
So hard not to blame him
Hold on tight
Hold on tight.

I'm longing for love and the logical
But he's only happy hysterical
I'm waiting for some kind of miracle
Waiting so long.

He's soft to the touch
But frayed at the ends he breaks
He's never enough
And he's still more than I can take.

Oh, and I don't know know
I don't what he's after
But he's so beautiful
Such a beautiful disaster.

If I could hold on
Through the tears and the laughter
Would it be beautiful,
Or just a beautiful disaster?

Hope it helps you,
From Blaise and Hermione

P.S. Meet me in the tower at 7 tonight xxx H

Draco cried as he read the words his friends had written. He now reaslised that Granger - no, Hermione - was his friend, and nothing could change that. He climbed the tower straight away - well, after he'd broken up with Pansy.

Hermione was already there when he arrived. He walked slowly over to her, his heart thumping loudly in his chest.
"Hi," he said quietly. She spun round quickly and hugged him. He was slightly shocked, but after he got over the initial shock he hugged her back. "Why did you want to meet me?" he asked.
"I needed to see if you were OK. I take it you go the letter," she said. He nodded. "Good," she continued. "Did the song help?"
"Yeah. I don't know how you did that. You read me like a book," Draco replied. "Could you sing it for me?" he asked her.
"Well, ok, but I'm no singer," she replied.
"I don't mind."
"He drowns in his sleep,
An exquiste extreme I know
He's as damned as he seems
More heaven than a heart could hold.
" Her voice shook, but she continued.

"And if I try to save him
My whole world could cave in
Just ain't right
Just ain't right.

Oh, and I don't know know
I don't what he's after
But he's so beautiful
Such a beautiful disaster.

If I could hold on
Through the tears and the laughter
Would it be beautiful,
Or just a beautiful disaster?

"There's more, but I don't think even you deserve that!" she laughed.

"Why did you even want to help me?" he asked her.
"Well, besides the fact that Blaise offered me 10 Galleons, I can't stand seeing people as down as you were. I can't stand it," she whispered in reply.

Part 2 - You Found Me

Draco sealed the envelope and gave it to his owl Mensajero, who flew out into the night with the two letters. Draco still wasn't sure about what he'd decided to do. He re-read the letter he'd just sent.

To Hermione/Blaise

I decided to write a song for you two as well. Hope you like it. Love Draco xxx
P.S. Meet me by the lake at 10 tonight Hermione x

Is this a dream?
If it is
Please don't wake me from this high
I'd become
Comfortably numb

Until you opened up my eyes
To what it's like
When everything's right

Oh, I can't believe
You found me
When no one else was looking
How did you know just where I would be?
Yeah you broke through all of my confusion
The ups and the downs
And you still didn't leave
I guess that you saw what nobody could see
You found me

So here we are
And that's pretty far
When you think of where we've been
No going back
I'm fading out
All that has faded me within

You're by my side
Now everything's fine
I can't believe...

Oh, I can't believe
You found me
When no one else was looking
How did you know just where I would be?
Yeah you broke through all of my confusion
The othershad their doubts
And you still didn't leave
I guess that you saw what nobody could see
You found me

And I was hiding
Til you came along
And showed me where I belong

You found me
When no one else was looking
You found me

He'd heard better, but he didn't care. He turned off his light and went to sleep. The letter wouldn't arrive until breakfast the following day.

~-*-~

The following morning, Draco woke up early and rushed out to breakfast. It was the first day of the Christmas holidays, and most of the pupils were going home. All except Potter, the Weasle, Hermione, Blaise, a few nameless others and himself. He walked into the great hall and his heart skipped a beat. There she, was sitting with Potter and the Weasle, laughing,. Her face lit up when she laughed.

The day flew by. Before he knew it, it was time for dinner. The tables had vanished, and had been replaced by a single round table in the centre of the hall. He sat down with a sigh. To his surprise, Hermione sat next to him.
"Hi," she said when Harry and Ron weren't watching. "Meet me by the lake after dinner." Draco nodded his reply, just as Harry and Ron sat down. She smiled at him a few times during the meal, but most of the time looked away.

Draco looked up from the rock he was sitting on. Hermione had arrived.
"What's the matter?" he asked. "Why did you need to see me?"
"So I could do this," she replied. She took a step forward and kissed him. Their tongues danced slowly for what felt like hours before they broke apart.
"What happened to the Weasle... er, I mean, Ron?" he asked, blushing.
"I didn't love him, simple as that," she replied.
"Why me, I'm no one special?"
"You're the only one who's eyes make me sad, voice makes me want to sing, and smile makes me happy." She kissed him again.
"You'd make a brilliant poet!" he remarked.
"Thanks!" she laughed. They walked back to the castle hand-in-hand, ready to face thei next challenge, facing their friends.

But for now I'm going to freeze this one moment in time, because they're both happy, and they deserve that, if only in a story, and if only for a while.

A/N: I may write a sequel to this, but probalby not. Please review!
