“Harry!” Hermione shouted from a window on the train. It had been two weeks since the last time they saw each other. After school had let out for the summer holidays, Harry insisted that Hermione move in with him now that she had no where to go.
Life with Harry had been great. Everyday they would talk about something she did while she was away from the castle. He had taken such an interest in some of the things that he insisted that she buy a horse to care for. At night he would have Hermione sit down on the couch in the parlor while he rubbed her aching feet. Being pregnant had a toll on her body and Harry made sure that she was as comfortable as possible. At first it was heaven for Hermione, but soon she grew tired of the constant sitting and doing nothing so she told Harry that she was going to travel to visit her family in France.
For Harry, life with Hermione was memorable. He thought back to all of the little things that happened during the summer like how he never forgot the first time that he heard that pretty mouth say that dirty word and how she covered her mouth and her face got red, she just looked so darn cute. He couldn't even act like he was mad because he lived for little moments like that. Or like the time, on his birthday, she lost all track of time and burnt the cake. Every smoke detector in the house was going off. She was crestfallen when he came into the room and wanted to see what was going on. She told him that it was to be a surprise and she wanted to do something non-magical for him. She was just about to cry until he took her in his arms as he tried not to let her see him laugh. Yeah he lived for little moments like that. He knew she's not perfect but she tries so hard for him he thanked Merlin that she wasn't 'cause how boring would that be.
Harry smiled as he entered her compartment on the train and she jumped into his arms. “Hello, love.” He whispered into her ear. His husky voice and the warm breath that tickled her ear sent shivers down her spine. Damn hormones were raging and this was not helping her. Harry was caught off guard when Hermione pulled out of the embrace and looked into his eyes. There was an indescribable fire that was burning behind her eyes. She grabbed his hand and nearly yanked it off while she walked out of the compartment. They walked to the back of the train where there were changing rooms located. She pushed him into one and followed, closing the door behind her and locking it. Hermione turned back around and, with a certain kind of hunger, attacked him with kisses as she ripped his clothes off of his body.
Twenty minutes later Hermione and Harry walked back to the compartment where their friends were gathered. Luna looked up from her new edition of The Quibbler and laughed loudly. Everyone turned to see what was so funny.
“Honestly, Harry, Hermione, it’s not like anyone couldn’t notice what you two were doing!” Everyone’s eyes darted from Luna to the couple and everyone started laughing as well. Harry’s hair, which was known to stick up in odd places, was standing on end; his shirt was missing four buttons and was on inside out. Hermione’s hair was falling out of her ponytail and her shirt was hanging out the waistband of her skirt, not to mention, her lips were bruised from all of the snogging. Harry and Hermione looked at each other and laughed. They were a right mess.
The journey to Hogwarts was pleasurable after that and in no time the train was slowing down and the students were grabbing their belongings; Neville searching frantically for Trevor. As the students disembarked, Harry listened for the familiar, “Firs’ Years! This Way!”, but instead they heard another familiar voice of Remus Lupin calling, “First Years, please gather over here!” Everyone was surprised to see the ex-Defense Against the Dark Arts professor. Harry made his way through the crowd to find out what was going on.
“Remus, where is Hagrid?” Harry asked.
“I can’t tell you, Harry, you will see though,” he said and then he bent closer and whispered, “And when we are around your peers you will have to address me as Professor.” Harry nodded and walked back to Hermione and his friends as they made their way t the carriages. It was a somber group of students waiting for the carriages. Harry understood quickly what was troubling them.
Last year’s battle with Voldemort ended with so many people dying. There were Death Eaters among the crowd, but there were a few that were young students. With all of the death that they had to witness, it was no arguing that everyone could see the thesterals. Only Harry smiled faintly because, even though he has been able to see the thesterals for a while, they still reminded him that only one death was important and that was Voldemort’s.
Once all of he students were seated at their house tables, the Great Hall opened and Professor McGonagall marched in with a large group of terrified first years. Ron glanced at them and turned to Harry.
“Hey, mate, don’t tell me we were that small!” he whispered with a grin.
“Well maybe not you but the rest of us were that small,” said Harry. Hermione leaned over, “There sure are a lot more first years than we ever had. Do you think that is because the threat of the Death Eaters and Voldemort is gone?”
“I don’t doubt it. Even with Voldie gone, Hogwarts will remain safe from other terrors,” said Harry.
“All but one terror, Harry,” whispered Ron. He smiled at Harry and Hermione’s puzzled faces. “We still have the terror of the teachers, Snape!” The trio tried to hold in their mirth, but they had no such luck and started laughing.
After their laughter died down they noticed that the Sorting Hat had already finished his song and the first years were being sorted. When the last name was called, “Bell, Lena” and the Sorting Hat shouted, “GRYFFINDOR” Dumbledore stood and addressed the students. Right away, the students noticed that something was not right about the Headmaster. For one, Albus didn’t stand as tall as he used to. Many people used to talk about his age saying that he had to be over one hundred and fifty years old, but for some reason, they didn’t worry about it until this night.
“Welcome to another year at Hogwarts,” he stated in his normal voice. “First, I regret to inform you that our beloved Rubeus Hagrid has passed away. He was a great asset to our institution and he will be missed. May we raise our goblets to Hagrid.” All of the students wore somber looks. As one, they raised their goblets and mumbled, “Hagrid.” Harry looked over to Hermione and saw that there were silent tears that rolled down her cheeks. Harry placed an arm around her shoulders to comfort her. “On a lighter note, I would like in re-introduce you to our new Care of Magical Creatures professor, Professor Remus Lupin. Good luck professor.” At the announcement, the Gryffindor, Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff table cheered; they all liked professor Lupin when he taught Defense Against the Dark Arts four years ago. “As for other announcements, for first years, the Forbidden Forest is just that, forbidden. And now it is time to announce this year’s Head Boy and Head Girl.” He paused to gain the attention of the students. “I want to congratulate Draco Malfoy and Hermione Granger.” Everyone in the room was silent. They were expecting Hermione to become the next Head Girl, but Draco Malfoy? “Now that the announcements are finished we can eat!” Dumbledore clapped his hands and a feast appeared on the house tables.
As Hermione sat in silence not eating, she noticed that a small card with her Head Girl badge appeared on her plate. She pushed the badge aside and read the card.
Congratulations on becoming this year’s Head Girl. Your presence is requested after the feast in the Headmaster’s office.
Headmaster of Hogwarts Witchcraft and Wizardry
Harry looked at Hermione knowing that there was something wrong. “Don’t worry, `Mione, Malfoy won’t try anything if he knows what is good for him.” Hermione nodded and started on her dinner.
At the end of the feast, Hermione made her way to the headmaster’s office and muttered the password (Ice Mice). The gargoyle sprang to life and she stepped onto the revolving staircase. When she got to the door she heard a faint, “Come in Hermione,” from the headmaster. When she walked in she noticed right away that Draco was not in the office. She stood by the door, not knowing what to do.
“Have a seat, Hermione,” said Dumbledore. “Tea?” Hermione shook her head and waited for when the headmaster was ready to talk. “Miss Granger, I know that you were not expecting Draco to become the next Head Boy and I felt you were a bit disappointed. What I fear, is that there will be much heated recalcitrance when it comes to Mr. Malfoy. Granted, he has not gained your reverence from his past actions, but I will expect some respect to pass between the two.” Hermione nodded as she listened to Dumbledore’s words. At that moment a knock was heard at the door. “Ah, Mr. Malfoy, please come in.”
Draco walked into the office and Dumbledore stood. “Now that you two are here, I can show you to your rooms. Please follow me.” Albus walked behind his desk and to a door that Hermione never saw before. As they walked through, Draco and Hermione noticed that they were in their common room. It was a small room with a large red couch and two emerald winged-backed chairs standing in front of the fireplace. There were two staircases, supposedly leading to the bedrooms.
“The staircase on the left is Mr. Malfoy’s room. Knowing there is a little animosity between you two, I have made the room into a study as well, with a bathroom for each of you. Hermione your bedroom is on the right. Each bedroom has two doors, one of course is to your restroom and the other will lead you into the common room of your house. The rules stand thusly; any students in here are to leave by curfew; you two have the responsibilities of the professors, with no curfew, but heed my warning, any unfair deduction of points will lose your privileges. Other than that, may you enjoy your year. Any questions and you may enter my office through this door and speak with me.” Dumbledore turned and left through the door. Draco sneered at Hermione and left to his room as Hermione walked up her flight of stairs into her room.
Her dorm was gorgeous. It was much larger than she expected with a huge king-sized four poster bed on a dais in one corner with burgundy bedding and curtains. One whole wall was all windows with a desk facing outward where she was able to look out over the lawn while she worked. To her left there was a door that leads to the bathroom that could rival the prefects’ bathroom. Hermione sighed, this was all great, but it could have been better if Harry was in the room right next door. She will have to put that behind her. She undressed and climbed into bed so that she could have a fresh start to her last first day at Hogwarts.
A/N: Hello again people! I am sorry for the late update, but I promise to be more on top of that. I hope you like the chapter. The chapter, I quote Brad Paisley's song - Little moments. I thought it was cute the way he talked about his lover in the song, so I incorporated that with Harry and Hermione. Don't forget to leave a review to tell me what I can do to improve.
