Hermione not paying much attention to her student didn’t even realize a big snake crawling out onto the table from the cauldron.
“Miss Hermione, Miss Hermione” Abigail squealed pointing to the snake.
Hermione snapped out of it and the snake vanished with a flick of her wand. “Sorry Abigail, I was thinking of something else. Can we go over this tomorrow?”
“Okay. Thanks Miss Hermione. See you tomorrow.” Abigail said as she waved bye.
“Hi!” Ginny said towards Hermione who was still trying to gather all of her thoughts.
“Ginny! Hey, I didn’t know you would be back today? I thought that you and Neville would still be in Ireland.” Hermione said with a smile.
“Well, I wanted to come back early. So, I hear that someone we both know is back in town.” Ginny said with a sly grin.
“Yes, I ran into him today at Ron’s. He looks so grown up now.” Hermione said and then stopped herself. “Look, he can’t know. I told you only out of complete confidence between two best friends. He can’t know that I liked him for all that time. He’s with Cho now. I have to respect that.”
“I know. I just wish that you would tell him. You might be surprised to find out what he would think in return.” Ginny smiled.
“Oh really, and what’s that?” Hermione laughed back.
“Come on, you and I both know that you and Harry were glued at the hip back in Hogwarts. Even I couldn’t stay with Harry for all of 2 seconds. He’s never been happy with anyone. He always seems to want something more. Something like you.” Ginny said.
“Please, we were all good friends. Harry and I were just good friends. That’s all he saw me as anyway. Enough of this silly talk. I think Ron wants to celebrate in town tonight, are you going to go?” Hermione asked.
“Yeah, I think Neville and I are going to try and swing by. You want to come with us?” Ginny asked.
“No, that’s okay, I’ll be there. I’ll probably walk over after work.” Hermione answered back.
“So..do you really think that he likes me?” Hermione asked.
“Well, I feel that he did back in school. But, I’ll see tonight how he acts. I’m good at seeing what’s really there.” Ginny smiled back.
“Please don’t tell anyone.” Hermione said.
“Don’t worry, I won’t. Besides, do I really want to burst my brother’s perfect bubble of a world tonight? I wish that he would find someone nice.” Ginny said.
“Stop it. Ron does not see me in that way anymore. We talked about it and everything. He’s okay with us being just friends.” Hermione said back.
“Okay, if you say so. But, if you ask me, looks like you might have to decide between one of those two guys. You had to of known that this was how it would play out. Two guys and one girl can not remain just friends for life. One of the guys is going to get the girl in the end.” Ginny said.
Hermione didn’t say anything back, just sat and thought about it. Was this true? Was she really going to have to choose between two. Ron knew that they were just friends though, right? And Harry had a girlfriend.
“Let’s go get something to eat” Ginny said. “I’m starving.”
“Okay, sounds good.” Hermione said as she waved her wand and a sign appeared on her front door ‘OUT TO LUNCH~ BE BACK IN ONE HOUR’.
They walked across the street and headed towards the ‘Three Broomsticks’. They walked inside and Ginny saw him before Hermione did.
“Harry!” Ginny screamed and ran over to give him a huge hug.
“Hi! How are you?” Harry said muffled through her tight hug.
“I’m good; I’m here with Hermione having lunch.” Ginny said with a smile.
Ginny turned slightly so that Harry could see Hermione who was standing behind her. Harry smiled and said, “Hi.”
“Hi again.” Hermione said searching for words to say.
“I know, let’s all have lunch together. Shall we?” Ginny said winking at Hermione.
“Uh… I guess, uh… Sure” Hermione said.
Harry picking up on Hermione’s resistance almost said no but then decided to join them. He wanted to catch up and he wanted to spend some time with Hermione. “Sure, sounds good” Harry responded.
“There’s a corner booth over there, let’s grab it.” Ginny said pulling Harry’s arm behind her and then without thinking, Harry grabbed Hermione’s hand and pulled her along too.
Hermione could feel her cheeks go flush and she tried not to think about whether or not her hands were sweaty. She never wanted to get to the table if this was how she was going to get there. Holding onto his hand. She didn’t even realize they were at the table til Ginny said, “Hermione?” Hermione blinked and then realized that she was still holding onto Harry’s hand and Ginny was sitting at the table. She quickly let go of Harry’s hand and scooted in beside Ginny. Hermione looked at Ginny with a look of ‘don’t even dare’. Ginny just looked back and smiled.
Harry was wondering what all the looks and smiles back and forth between Ginny and Hermione were all about. He dismissed it as behavior that women do and he knew that was definitely one thing that they did not teach in Hogwarts.
They all looked at their menus and waited for the waitress. Harry started up the conversation and asked Ginny, “So, Mrs. Longbottom, when did you get married?”
“It’s wonderful. Neville is great. He’s so brilliant. Who would have ever thought that I would be Mrs. Neville Longbottom? We got married two months ago and were staying in Ireland for a long honeymoon.” Ginny went on smiling and looking down at her wedding ring.
Harry then turned to Hermione and asked a question that he wasn’t so sure that he wanted the answer too, “So, are you seeing anyone?”
Hermione gulped and didn’t know what to say. But she said the truth for she could never lie to Harry and said, “No.”
“Really? I would have thought for sure that you would be seeing someone seeing that you stopped writing to me.” Harry teased with a smile.
“I told you I was sorry.” Hermione said.
“I’m only teasing. It’s okay. It’s just good to see you again.” Harry said.
“Well, I dated here and there; just never found anyone that kept my interest.” Hermione said.
Ginny was beaming with a grin from ear to ear and wanted to burst. Hermione nudged her under the table and her grin stopped.
“So, still dating Cho?” Ginny said with a non-interested look.
“Yeah, I guess so. We had a fight this morning and I told her that I needed some space. I don’t know. I just need to sort out a few things first.” Harry said.
“I’m sorry, I’m sure that you’ll figure it all out soon.” Ginny said.
Harry looked at Ginny and then at Hermione who was fidgeting with her napkin. He wondered what was going on in that head of hers. She seemed different somehow. So grown up. So beautiful. He stopped his thoughts as someone came up behind him with their hands around his neck. He couldn’t believe that she followed him here.
