Chapter Fifteen
I wanted Harry to pulled out his wand and hex Snape so badly. I was mentally egging him on, hoping he’d hear my plea. Lily saw me eyeing Harry and looked, too. Seeing Harry fingering his wand she pulled him back giving him a stern look. For the first time in my entire life I sort of hated Lily for the moment.
“ Let’s go back to the common room,” Lily suggested.
“ What about breakfast?” Sirius whined.
“ Yeah, Padfoot’s right. I’m going to eat,” I said. Remus and Lily looked at one another with helpless looks and then followed Sirius and I to the Great Hall. Harry disappeared somewhere on the way.
As soon as we all walked in the Great Hall bursted into whisper. Idiots. We KNOW who they’re talking about. We aren’t stupid. Sirius, Remus, and I really didn’t care about the whispers as we sat down with Hermione, Ron, and Ginny. We get that ALL the time even if this is under totally different circumstances. Lily seemed a little nervous at the moment.

I was very uncomfortable all weekend trying to tell everyone that I didn’t want to talk about the past or that I didn’t know their parents or whatever other question they decided to come up with.
I don’t know how James can stand all the rumors that fly about him. I mean there’s always something different about him going with a girl or something that has to do with Quidditch or some new prank he’s overly large head came up with.
On Monday, we had potions with the Slytherians first. Now, the Slytherians booed at us every time we walked by them in the corridor or Great Hall. When we walked in to potions, they started booing and hissing terrible insults at us.
James and I took our usual seats with Harry and that brought cracks to Harry about his family finally being brought back together. Harry glared at them, but didn’t have the chance to curse them because Snape walked in. He turned around and faced the class.
“ Instructions from last week are on the board,” he said taping the blackboard with his wand, “ You have the rest of the lesson to complete your potion and give me a sample,”
I got out my ingredients and the potion I had saved
and started to brew my potion. Harry also got to work, but James only got his stuff out and then sat back in his chair. Snape, who was walking around, stopped at our table.
“ James Potter,” he said. The class got very quiet and still as they looked at James, “ Care to tell us why you’ve decided to go against my instructions?”
“ Actually, I do,” James said loudly. His voice echoed off the walls.
“ Dad, don’t do any–” Harry began in a whisper, but Snape cut him off.
“ Quiet, let your ‘dad’ answer the question,”
“ I,” James said carelessly, “ Don’t take orders
from greasy gits,”
A gasp spread around the classroom that someone would say something like that to a teacher. James was pushing his luck by calling insulting Snape. No matter how Snape was in the past.
“ Ah, Potter, I should have known you would say that,” Snape said dangerously, “ For you have always been a inconsiderate, arrogant, big headed boy and you will always
be,”
“ Well, Snivellus, that’s where your wrong,” James said twirling his wand in his hand. Snape looked like he was about to choke James.
“ Potter, I am above you now. For acting childish and not following directions your detentions will go on the rest of the week,” Snape hissed. James shrugged.
“ Don’t wait for me then. Now, back to me being arrogant. Would someone arrogant change their whole personality just to go out with a girl who I might not like in a week? Would an arrogant person stick up for someone when called a Mudblood? I might be a little sure of myself, but I mean, I was one of the most popular and best looking guys in the school!” James said still twirling his wand, “ Unlike you, Snivellus, who hung out by yourself and was a very good target for 89% of our pranks. Well, that’s all I wanted to say, I guess I’ll be going,”
And with that, James packed up his stuff and left the dungeon. Everyone stared at Snape who looked so shocked that anyone would say anything like that. Or maybe he was stuck in those memories of James picking on him.
“ Class dismissed,” Snape said so suddenly and so darkly I jumped. We all packed up our stuff and left. I let Harry, Ron, and Hermione go ahead and walked slowly behind Sirius and Remus. They were whispering about James.
“ Stupid of him to do that. Next time Snape sees Prongs, he’s going to get expelled I bet,” Remus was saying.
“ We’re under Dumbledore’s protection to stay in Hogwarts, remember?” Sirius muttered, “ I think James is getting stressed out because everyone knows about us being from the past and keeps asking him stupid questions. The questions about Lily are getting to him the most,”
“ Yeah, I know, most of the school already knows I’m a were– Lily!” Remus said happily when he realized Lily walking behind them. His smiled faded and Sirius looked at me funny.
“ Is something wrong Lily?” Sirius asked.
I was crying. I’ve been a little shaky since everyone keeps asking me questions about Harry and James and Voldemort and all, but I just now realized that I’m going to die. I’ll die and leave one year old Harry all alone making it his destiny to kill Voldemort or die trying.
Then there was James. I only think that he has a stupid little crush on me, but it think it’s more. I think James loves me. We do get married and have a kid, but I mean in the past. James never insulted me and protected me if anyone ever called me an ugly name or hurt me in any way.
He was there every time I needed a friend, even if I did push him away. Most of all, he waited for me for 7 years. He could have moved onto another girl, but refused to. Suddenly, I came to a conclusion that I never thought was possible.
I think I love James Potter.

“ Harry, what your father did was not good,” I said as the three of us ( Harry, Ron, and me of course) went out to the lake.
“ I know, but we don’t need to worry about him getting expelled,” Harry said sounding nervous, “ Dumbledore is going to keep him in the school no matter what,”
“ Yeah, but he’ll have detention for the rest of his life!” Ron said seriously.
I always sort have figured James to be very reckless, just as Sirius was before he died. I mean, going into the woods and running around with a werewolf? Honestly, even if it was your best friend!
What James did today was very dangerous. He could be expelled. Snape looked like he was ready to KILL James in class. I knew Harry was concerned about his father’s punishment, but there’s nothing we can do. In the eyes of a teacher, James deserves punishment and it will NOT be something as simple as detention for the rest of his life. Oh no, it will be a billion kazillion times worse

I don’t know what has gotten over me. All of a sudden I wanted to embarrass Snape. Well, actually I wanted to hurt him real bad but the only possible way of doing that without getting my wand snapped in half was to remind him of how much better I was then him. Mcgonagall will probably call me into her office for a life time of detentions later on.
When Sirius and Remus came into the common room early I knew I had gotten to Snape. He wouldn’t have let class out early any other way. Lily soon followed. She looked at me and then quickly ran upstairs. She was crying and I was immediately worried.
“ Snape didn’t do anything to Lily, did he?” I asked Sirius when he sat down next to me.
“ Wha-?” Sirius replied. I didn’t have time to deal with Sirius and looked over at Remus and he was more helpful.
“ She started crying in the hall when she followed us out of class. She wouldn’t tell us why, but I think it has to do with what you did to Snape,” my friend explained. Sirius jumped out of his seat and looked at Remus like he was crazy.
“ Are you mad?! That was bloody brilliant to do to Snape! I only wish James had told me what he was planning! I would have loved to be part of it! Not only that he’s a teacher!” he yelled at Remus.
“ Padfoot, sit down, I never planned it,” James snapped, “ I was just sick of him. I’m sick of all the Slytherins
saying insults about me dying, I’m sick of Lily refusing to go out with me, I’m sick of everything! I just want to go back to our time when everything was perfect. I swear Lily was warming up to me, I could hex Snape whenever I want, and I wasn’t dead!”
My friends looked at me and I realized how stressed out I have been the past few weeks. I continued my speech.
“ I want things to be back to normal, you know? I mean, getting to know Harry was great. But, Lily still refuses to go out with me. Everything here is so different. Voldemort is more powerful then he ever was at our time. The teachers all look at Lily and me with these sad eyes and they obviously feel bad for Sirius because he was in Azkaban for 12 years and then in hiding for another two before falling–literally–to his death! It’s awkward, too, knowing Neville’s parents and the Weasley’s a bit. It isn’t like the popularity we had in our time,” I said.
“ Duh, mate,” Sirius said, “ We’re dead. I was the first to escape from Azkaban and you and Lily brought the only person who can kill Voldemort into the world. It always will be different. We can’t go back until—”
“ James!” Lavender Brown shouted as she ran into the common room, “ Sirius, Remus! Dumbledore told me to get you guys to go to his office. He needs to have a word with you. Wait while I get Lily!”
She ran upstairs and returned a few moments
later with Lily. Lily glanced at me, turned red, and looked down at the ground. Then we all left towards Dumbledore’s office.
I said the password and then we all entered the room. Dumbledore was at his desk petting Fawkes and humming a little tune. He looked up when he heard us come in.
“ There you are, I have good news!” Dumbledore said happily.
