"Harry listen to me, it is going to work!" Hermione argued.
"It has to work, I mean who would know Lord Voldemort better than himself?" she explained.
Hermione had been telling Harry her plan for what seemed like hours now, and still Harry was not letting up with the questions and the curious looks. Hermione was close to just giving up and going ahead with her plan with or without Harry's help.
"Wait a minute Hermione" Harry started again, "How did you come across this spell again, this Tempo Rectis thingy?"
"Tempus Rectum," Hermione stated, clearly annoyed. "Harry I already told you, I was in the library and I happened to be looking in a book about the mystery's of time travel and I found the Tempus Rectum spell. It can bring a person from the past into our present time and keep them here until we send them back with the counter spell." After mentioning the counter spell, Harry noticed a red tinge color his friends cheeks.
"And what exactly is this counter spell that will send the person back?" Harry asked with a questioning look.
If it was is possible, Hermione blushed and paled at the same time, indicating to Harry that Hermione didn't know the counter spell. "I will figure that out when the time calls for it," Hermione said defensively.
Harry could not believe what Hermione was suggesting. It was bad enough that they had one Voldemort to deal with at the moment, but bringing back his sixteen year self would mean that Voldemort Jr. would be running around too and doing God knows what. Hermione saw the uncertainty in her friends eyes and she realized that convincing Harry of her plan would be harder than she thought.
Sighing, Hermione sat down next to her friend and decided she would try one more time to convince Harry that her plan would work. "Harry, I know that it sounds crazy, but you have to understand that everyone has some good in them. If there ever was a time when Voldemort was good, then it would be when he was young. From what you have told me about his past, Tom Riddle was already going by the name of Voldemort when he was sixteen, so he would know a lot of his weaknesses and strengths. If we could befriend him then maybe he would join our side and help us fight the Dark Lord of our time. What else can we do Harry? In order to defeat Voldemort, we have to do everything we can think of, and if my plan works, we will be able to save not only ourselves, but Tom Riddle as well."
Harry just stared at her. He knew that the Wizarding world was desperate at the moment, but bringing back Tom Riddle was not the solution that he had in mind for the defeat of the Dark Lord. But he knew his best friends, and he knew that Hermione would go through with the plan even if Harry didn't help her, and personally, Harry didn't want her to do this alone.
"Alright Hermione, you have convinced me. What do we do about Ron, and Dumbledore? Do we tell them?"
"We tell no one until we get Tom Riddle here. Ron wouldn't understand why we are doing this. You know how protective he is of Ginny and what happened between her and Tom in the Chamber of Secrets. He would try and stop us from doing this. And Dumbledore, well he would probably feel the same way and think that Tom would only be a danger to us."
"Well he would be a danger to us Mione. No matter how handsome or how charming Tom Riddle may seem, he still is Lord Voldemort at heart," Harry said.
"That is why we have to try and change him," Hermione added softly so as to not piss off Harry and make him change his mind.
"Ok Hermione, when do want to do the spell?" Harry asked. He decided that he should stop asking so many questions and see if Hermione had any skill at planning something that was against school rules.
"Tonight, at 12:00 so that way we wont have to sneak around and come up with excuses as to where we are going and what we are doing. We can meet here in the common room and then we can make our way to Moaning Myrtle's bathroom where no one will hear us. Make sure you bring your invisibility cloak and the Marauder's map just in case. Getting caught may mean that we would have to forget about this whole idea, and that can't happen. We need to be sneaky and smart. So the two of us make the perfect team for this."
"Wow," Harry said surprised. "You have this all planned out now don't you? What would you have done if I had decided not to help?"
"I would have done it myself," she told him with a mischievous smirk.
"It figures," Harry said with a roll of his eyes. "I don't know what happened Hermione, but you sure are acting more and more like a bad ass rebel than the book worm I remember. What happened to my wholesome little Hermione?" Harry added with a grin.
"Well I had to do something to try and match up to the likes of you and Ron, who are always doing bad ass things. And Harry, this is not bad ass, it's smart and it is going to work. Trust me."
Hermione said this with a smile and Harry had no choice but to believe her. When had she led him or Ron wrong before? Harry couldn't think of a time. And plus, Hermione was skilled with time travel as it was. Why, she was only in her third year when she was given a Time Turner in order to get through her extensive course load. This made Harry trust Hermione beyond all other things and eased his worries a bit.
"12:00 it is Hermione. I really hope this works and we bring Tom Riddle back and not some prehistoric dinosaur that eats everything in it's sight," Harry said, the worry starting to grow again with that new thought.
"Why would we need a dinosaur when Ron does that anyways?"
They both laughed heartily, welcoming a little bit of happiness that seemed hard to come by in the current times. As they got up from the couch, Hermione gave Harry a reassuring hug and then dashed off to her room where she would force herself to get some sleep before 12:00 came.
Harry watched her go and couldn't help but feel a bit nervous about the whole thing. He trusted Hermione and he knew that she was probably the smartest student in the whole school, but her plan seemed a little rash and he hoped that she had all of the kinks worked out with that spell.
As he walked to his room to try and get some sleep as well, he hoped that Dumbledore would not send them both to Azkaban for messing with time travel, let alone bringing the future Dark Lord into the present. Sighing he walked up the stairs and into his room.
"I'll find out in about four hours if Hermione is as right about her plan as she says she is."
And with that Harry closed his eyes and waited for sleep to claim him. It was going to be a long night.
