A/N: My first shot at Cedric/Cho… and I’m quite happy with the way it turned out actually! This actually the first songfic I ever finish, I have started over seven but never finished one of them... And this story is also my response to timerturner's 'First Kiss' challenge =)
The song Magic Works is from the Goblet of Fire soundtrack and is sung by "The Weird Sisters"; Jason Buckle, Steve Claydon, Jarvis Cocker, Jonny Greenwood, Steve Mackey and Phil Shelway.
And yeah, I don't own anything but the plot :P
I’d like to thank the human HP lexicon Nina for helping me out with some stuff for this story, I would’ve been completely lost if it weren’t for her! :D
And also thanks to Sara, for always helping me to edit... and for helping me with my brilliant summary!
This one's going out to all the lovers out there
Hold each other tight and keep each other warm
Your final dance
Your final change
The one you love
You know you've waited long enough
His arms wrapped around her tiny waist. Her warm and soft hands were placed behind his neck, her fingers entwined in his hair. The people around them that weren’t dancing were all staring. Some of them were staring with jealousy in their eyes. They wanted to be dancing with one of them, and the others just stared because Cedric Diggory and Cho Chang made Hogwarts finest couple.
At least everybody in the school said they were a couple. Every single student at Hogwarts had clearly noticed that they had a thing for each other, every one except Cho and Cedric themselves. They’d been good friends for a while and lately strange feelings had started to evolve inside of them. But they both did what they thought was the only right thing, and that was keeping their feelings inside. Afraid of scaring the other away if the exposed their true feelings.
“Look at Cedric and Cho, they look so nice together,” Parvatti Patil sighed.
“Do you really think so?” Harry Potter replied quietly to his ball date, not sure if she heard him or not. He was one of the boys who wanted to be in Cedric’s shoes right now. To him Cho was the most beautiful person on earth, he had recently noticed her dazzling beauty. And even though his mind and soul were troubled after all the strange nightmares about Voldemort and his worries about the Triwizard Tournament… The never-ending thoughts of Cho Chang always managed to make him feel all warm inside. Harry sighed deeply thinking about how it would feel wrapping his arms around her body. He was so lost in his own thoughts that he didn’t even notice when his date, Parvatti, disappeared to dance with a boy from Durmstrang.
At the other side of the great hall was Hannah Abbot was sitting in the chair next to her date, Ernie MacMillian. She was one of all the girls who wanted to be in Cho’s shoes. Sure, she enjoyed Ernie’s company a lot, he was one of her all time best friends. But he wasn’t the kind of guy that she wanted to dance really, I mean really close to. He wasn’t the kind of guy whom she wanted to wrap her arms around and just forget about everything else in the world. He wasn’t Cedric Diggory.
Cedric and Cho didn’t notice them staring; no, with their eyes closed they were the only ones there. With their eyes closed they were all alone. He breathed in her scent; she smelled vanilla, like always. He loved that smell and smiled as she made a motion with her fingers in his hair that sent shivers up and down his spine. Asking her to the ball was the best decision of my entire life, Cedric thought to himself. And the fact that she said yes, well, that’s just awesome, brilliant, lovely… He woke up from his thoughts as the song was over and the band on stage, Weird Sisters, started to play another song.
Cho and Cedric let go of each other and started to dance to the up-tempo song the band was playing now. It was their greatest hit, Do the Hippogriff, and people on the dance floor went completely crazy. They were all singing, dancing or just jumping around in front of the stage. Even some of the teachers, among them Hagrid and Madame Maxime, were up on the dance floor ‘doing the hippogriff’. Professor Flitwick had climbed up on the stage with the band where he stayed for a while and danced in front of the highly amused students and then he did a stage dive. He travelled across the dance floor by all the students’ hands that were raised in the air.
Cedric and Cho looked at each other, both started laughing out loud. “You want me to throw you up on the stage?” Cedric exclaimed, he had to speak very loud so that Cho would hear him.
“No way, are you crazy?” She laughed.
“I guess I am,” he said with a mischievous look in his eyes, and then he wrapped his arms around her waist and lifted her up from the floor.
“No, Cedric, don’t,” Cho giggled in his ear as her feet were now dangling a few inches above the floor. Cedric just laughed and started to spin around, Cho who was laughing as well wrapped her arms around his neck so that he wouldn’t drop her. Eventually he let her down and they were both quite dizzy and had to hold on to each other so that they wouldn’t fall. They continued to dance to the song until it was over and the Weird Sisters announced the next song they were going to sing. Cedric took Cho’s hand and led her away from the dance floor; they were now standing in a corner all by themselves.
Believe, that magic works
Don't be afraid of being hurt
Don't let this magic die
The answer's there
Oh, just look in her eyes
He leaned in closer, Cho’s heart skipped a beat as she thought he was going to kiss her, but his mouth ended up close to her ear, and he whispered, “It’s pretty hot in here, don’t you think?”
She shivered as she felt his warm breath tickle the skin of her neck. A simple, “Yes”, was all she could reply. She couldn’t help it but every time Cedric was close to her she became extremely shy and timid, and every time he laid his eyes on her she had to remind herself to breathe.
Cedric smiled at her, “Do you want to come with me outside and grab some fresh air?”
“Sure, I’d love to.” Cho replied. Cedric, who still had a bright smile plastered upon his lips, took her hand and led her over the dance floor and out from the great hall. They walked in silence through the empty corridors, the music was loud and they could still hear it clearly as they walked outside.
It was quite cold on this evening in December, and the moon and the stars were shining brightly in the dark sky above. Cedric and Cho walked hand in hand over the grass, still hearing the music play inside the castle. They didn’t stop and they didn’t talk until they reached the edge of the lake. The dark water was calm and you could clearly see the reflections of the moon and the stars on the surface.
“Beautiful night, isn’t it?” Cedric said.
“Lovely,” Cho replied and glanced out over the lake that didn’t seem to have an end this night. She was fascinated by how beautiful the Hogwarts grounds were at night. She’d never really noticed it before but no one could possibly think anything else on a night like this.
“I’ve got something for you Cho,” he said and let go of her hand. “Since it’s Christmas day and all.”
“Aw, but… I don’t have anything for you Cedric.”
“Don’t worry about it,” he said and gave her a wink before he slipped his hand down into the pocket of his dress robe. He never broke the eye contact with the beautiful girl standing in front of him. He’d planned this ever since he first fell in love with her a couple of months ago, he’d meant to give it to her earlier but things had always gotten in the way.
This night nothing would come in the way. This night was their night.
He pulled his hand out of his pocket, still holding on to his surprise so that Cho couldn’t see it.
“What is it?” She asked and looked from his face to his hand and then back at his face again with curious eyes.
Cedric smiled and slowly opened his hand to reveal something that reminded Cho of floo-powder, but it was in silver and it sparkled in the moonlight. “I’ve made this myself,” he told her.
Cho didn’t know what to say, silver powder? Wow?
He laughed as he understood that she had no clue of what it was, “Look,” he whispered and blew the powder off his hand towards her face, but it didn’t reach her... Instead it took shape of the most beautiful silver butterfly Cho had ever seen, she followed it with her eyes as it soared up towards the sky. Eventually it stopped and split in many, many pieces, it looked like someone had fired fireworks. She threw a quick glace at Cedric who couldn’t take his eyes off her excited face before she looked up to the sky again. The silver powder was now starting to form words…
Cedric didn’t watch what words that were formed above them; he already knew them by heart. After all, he’d been the one making them up. He’d been the one making the magical powder.
“Ohc… ouy… htiw… evol… ni… ma… I kniht… I.” Cho read.
Cedric was shook back to reality when he heard her talk, he looked up toward the stars and the moon and noticed, to his dissatisfaction that all the words and the entire sentence was backwards. “Oh no,” he sighed. What could’ve possibly gone wrong?
“I must have done something wrong, oh that’s right, I forgot to add a toe from a frog,” he mumbled, not meaning for Cho to hear.
“It’s okay Cedric.”
“No, I wanted to say something to you… something important and… I feel so stupid, it’s backwards.”
Backwards eh? Cho thought with a smile plastered upon her lips and started to rebuild the sentence in her mind.
I… think… I… am… in… love… with… you… Cho…
Her smile faded away and she felt her cheeks get warmer even though it was really cold outside. She figured that they were probably red as well. Her heart started to pound faster and faster inside her chest as her eyes met his.
He smiled as he realized that she had understood what he was trying to say with the magical powder. Then he reached out his right hand to remove a strand of her long black hair from her face. As he did that, he automatically moved closer to her. He kept his hand on her cheek, it looked like she was holding her breath. And suddenly, the more he looked into her eyes, he also felt that it got harder and harder to breathe. He moved his hand towards her mouth where he ran his fingers over her lips that he so badly wanted to kiss.
…but by the look on her face, that was almost expression less, he didn’t know whether she wanted to be kissed or not.
Your final move
Mhm, don't be scared
She wants you to
Yeah, it's hard
You must be brave
Don't let this moment slip away
It’s now or never Cedric, a firm voice, which resembled a little bit like his own inside his head, told him. Not even facing a dangerous dragon in the first task of the TriWizard Tournament had made him feel this nervous. His hand remained under her chin as he leaned in closer to her face. When he notice Cho closing her eyes he closed his as well.
Cho held her breath as she soon felt his hot breath tickling her lips. He moved his hand from under her chin to the back of her neck and then, finally, he pressed his lips against hers. Shivers ran up and down Cho’s spine, this was her first kiss, ever, and it felt so good. Cedric’s lips against hers felt so perfect, it was like their lips were made only to kiss each other.
He licked her lips, asking for permission to enter her mouth with his tongue. Cho’s heart raced faster then ever before, she didn’t know what to do next, she tried to remember some kissing scene that she’d read about in books or seen in some movie… She wrapped her arms around him, inside of his dress robes, so that her fingers would get warmer again and then she just tilted her head slightly to the left and parted her lips. His tongue entered her mouth and it felt so good, unlike nothing else Cho had ever felt before. His hand behind her neck, his long, cold fingers against her skin sent shivers up and down her spine once more. A billion butterflies buzzing around in her stomach, she wanted more…
Cedric wanted more as well… The girl tasted even sweeter than he’d ever hoped for, he let his hands run down along the silky material of her dress. As he reached the inward curve of the lower part of her back, he pulled her tiny body even closer to his body… It caused their lips to start moving faster instead of in the slow and passionate motion they’d moved in earlier, but quite soon Cho abruptly pulled away from him.
It felt like someone had punched him straight on the nose, didn’t she like it? “What’s wrong Cho? Did I move too fast?” He asked nervously. He’d wanted this moment to be perfect -- the best thing she'd ever experienced. If he had ruined it, jeopardize it in any way, he’d be forever mad at himself.
“I’m fine,” she whispered looking down at her feet. She picked up her head and looked up at him again with slightly flushed cheeks, “I-I forgot to breathe.”
Cedric sighed in relief, “I thought I’d done something wrong; you scared me.”
“Sorry,” she giggled.
He smiled and placed a quick peck on her lips, “Do you want to go back inside?”
“No,” Cho replied and took one of his hands.
“Good, because I don’t want to either,” he said, still smiling. Then they started to walk, hand in hand, along the edge of the lake. Over the white grounds of Hogwarts.

The answer's there
Just look in her eyes
They walked in silence for quite awhile, neither of them not having a clue of what to say or do. All Cedric wanted to do was to take the beautiful girl next to him in his arms again and kiss her soft lips once more, he wasn’t sure whether Cho wanted it or not…
Cho, who still had not quite realised that she’d just been kissed, touched her lips with the hand Cedric wasn’t holding on to. They were still a little swollen after the kiss. When she noticed that Cedric was watching her she quickly removed her fingers from her lips and started to think of something to ask that would break the silence. “Have you figured out what the second task is yet?”
“Not yet, but I think I know how to figure it out… Mad-Eye gave me a quite interesting tip.”
“He scares me, did I tell you that he showed us all the Unforgivable Curses in class during the first lesson we had with him?”
“Yeah, he showed them to us as well, I think it was great though.”
“Great?” Cho repeated, “Cedric sometimes I wonder why you weren’t placed in Gryffindor, you are indeed more brave then anyone I’ve ever met.”
Cedric just laughed, remembering how nervous he had been right before he’d kiss her. Not the brave Cedric there, no. He decided not to tell Cho about his nervous moment, he decided just to let her think that he never was afraid or shy. “You’re just saying that to be nice."
“No honestly, you are… The way you handled that dragon in the first task—oh, for Merlin’s sake; just entering the Triwizard Tournament is brave!”
“I guess,” he said and shrugged his shoulders.
“Yeah, people die in this tournament,” he said with a dark, masculine voice, then he burst out laughing.
“Cedric, I’m serious, I’m scared for you.”
They stopped walking and Cedric turned to look at her. “Don’t be, I’ll be fine,” he said with a smile. “I’ll be fine as long as I don’t lose the entire tournament… or if I come in third place. I guess it’s okay if Potter wins since he's from Hogwarts and all, but I don’t want to lose against Fleur or Krum.”
“I think you’ll win, you have the right attitude,” she told him with a smile plastered on her lips. “I wanted to wear one of those badges but I don’t think that Potter stinks, so I choose not to wear one, hope you don’t mind.”
“I’ve no idea who started making those… I’ve told my friends not to wear them, Harry’s a great guy… And if anyone’s brave, it’s him.”
Cho didn’t really pay attention to what Cedric was saying as he kept on talking, she just watched how his lips curved as he talked. Her heart skipped a beat as he suddenly reached out his hand towards her cheek. Shivers ran up and down her spine as his thumb touched the skin just under her left eye.
“Eyelash,” he said and held it up in front of her. “Blow it away and make a wish.”
I wish that he would kiss me again, Cho thought and the she blew away the eye lash from Cedric’s thumb.
And don't believe that magic can die
No, no, no, this magic can't die!
The Weird Sisters were still playing inside of the castle and where Cedric and Cho were standing now they could hear the music clearly. They were playing that song Magic Works, they’d already played it once during the night but it was that kind of song that people wanted to hear again. One of those perfect songs to dance really close to the one you love…
While Cho was busy looking at all the stars up in the sky, Cedric watched the stars reflect in her eyes. He was amazed by how beautiful she looked tonight, she was always beautiful, but there was something very special about this night. As he heard the lead singer of the Weird Sisters say, this is the last song of the night; he knew just what to do. “Cho…” He said.
“Would you like to dance with me?”
“Dance? With me? It’s the final song.”
“Oh,” Cho sighed and felt her cheeks getting hot. “I’d love to.”
Cedric just smiled and placed his arms around her waist and pulled her close. Cho put her arms behind his neck and slowly they started to move to the calm rhythm of the music. Cho closed her eyes and didn’t think of anything but how soft his lips had felt against hers, but she didn’t quite remember the taste. She wanted to kiss him again, she wanted to relieve that beautiful moment, but she didn’t dare to make the first move. She didn’t quite know how to make the first move when it came to kissing someone.
He rubbed his hands up and down her back and then his cheek touched hers and that’s when he noticed how cold she really was. He couldn’t resist the temptation of making her warm again. So he pressed his lips against her cheek, then he kissed his way down to her neck and up again. He stopped and looked into her eyes. They burned with lust and excitement. This time he wasn’t nervous, this time he knew she wanted it to. The two of them were still moving to the music as he leaned in closer and closer towards those gorgeous pink lips of hers.
Cho closed her eyes as she felt his lips against hers once more, thank god for eyelashes… my wish came through, she thought and felt like the luckiest girl in the entire universe. A rush of something warm went through her entire body and she nearly melted in his arms when he licked her lower lip, kindly asking for permission to enter her mouth with his tongue. She parted her lips for him and another rush of that warm and fuzzy feeling went through her body. Their tongues danced in union, making their mouths one, making them one.
Cedric was absolutely sure now… he was very much in love with Cho Chang.
