“You know,” said Harry one day when they were all alone in Ron’s room. “i sort of miss him.”
“Dumbledore?” asked Ron.
“Yeah,” said Harry.
“I think we all will. he was a great wizard,” said Hermione slowly looking from Ron to Harry.
“He was,” said Ron.
“The best wizard of them all,” said Harry solemnly.
Ron looked at Hermione and noticed that there were tears in her eyes. “Harry you wouldn’t mind if Hermione and I had a word?” asked Ron.
“Go ahead,” said Harry, looking out of the window.
Once they had walked down the stairs, Ron motioned Hermione into what had been Percy’s old bedroom.
“Why are you so upset?” asked Ron.
“Well he’s dead.”
“Well, i know that, but why are you all like that?”
“It’s my fault,” Hermione said.
“No it isn’t,” said Ron cupping her chin in his hand.
“but it is my fault that he is gone, Ron. I could have stopped Snape, i could have stopped him from killing Dumbledore,” she insisted, looking around the room in the burrow.
“You can’t change what happened Hermione, what is done is done. Dumbledore is dead and there is nothing you can do about it. Sometime you just have to learn to live with it. After all that is what Harry did,” said Ron.
She took out a thin chain from under her shirt that she had to hide from everyone else.
“What the hell! Where did you get that? Didn’t we smash all of them?” asked Ron as he gaped at the time turner in Hermione’s hand.
“Touch it, it is real,” Hermione said holding it out.
But Ron avoided the timeturner. “I thought-”
“That we smashed all of them. Well i lied. I never turned in my time turner at the end of third year. McGonagall never asked me to turn it back in. I just kept it, i thought maybe if i kept it, i could use it sometime later and it could help me.”
“What exactly are you going to do with it?” Ron asked apprehensively.
“I am going to use it so that i can change it. If Dumbledore never died it will all be the same, no one will be hurt.”
“Snape would still be at Hogwarts,” pointed out Ron.
“Would you rather have a sadist professor or no school at all and Dumbledore is dead?” Hermione asked holding the timeturner in her hand.
“I would rather if you were safe,” said Ron.
“I will be.”
“No, promise me that you won’t do anything stupid or put yourself in danger that you don’t have to be in,” said Ron.
“Why?” Hermione asked. She turned her head slightly so her face was illuminated by the sunlight.
“because i love you,” said Ron turning red.
“I love you.”
“Then don’t go,” he said.
“I have to.”
Out side of Snape’s room Hermione waited. She waited for him to run. She waited for Flitwick to come down and once he came, Hermione waited for Snape to come running.
Once he ran, she followed. Her foot steps coming faster than his, her strides matching his.
“Snape,” Hermione said, once she had caught up with him
“Granger! What the fuck are you doing here. I thought i told you that you had to stay in my office,” he said stopping.
“Sorry,” She said taking out her wand.
“I’m not going to stop you,” he said.
“What?” Hermione asked, puzzled. She stared at him.
“I am not going to stop you,” he repeated. Snape started to run away from Hermione.
“Stupify!” Hermione shouted.
Snape crumpled to the ground. But she had to keep on running. Hermione knew she had to see Harry, she had to make sure that he and Dumbledore were all right.
She ran up the stairs in a full sprint to where the battle was being fought.
“Hermione,” said Ron, breathless coming up to Hermione.
“What Ron?” she asked, gazing at him.
“Where is Luna?” he asked, looking around for Luna.
“Downstairs,” she said, knowing that she and the other Hermione would be there in Snape’s office with Flitwick.
“What are you doing?” asked Ron as Hermione started to Run again.
“I am going to the tower,” she said, looking over her shoulder.
“It is blocked,” said Ron, chasing after her. “Lupin and McGonagall have been trying to get through.”
“I know how they can get through,” She said. Going up to the blocked door, Hermione raised my wand.
“It is no use Hermione,” said Lupin, quietly.
She pointed my wand at the door. “Carnicitus,” Hermione said and the door opened.
“How did you do that?” asked McGonagall, astonished.
“Read it in a book,” she said. Hermione went through the door praying it was not too late.
Draco was standing staring at Dumbledore.
“Do it Draco,” sneered Fenrir Greyback. “I don’t want to wait around all night.”
Draco raised his wand and pointed it at Dumbledore. “Avada Kadavra,” he whispered.
A green light burst from his wand, aimed at Dumbledore. Dropping to the ground Draco screamed.
But it wasn’t just Draco who screamed. “No!!!!!!!!!!!” screamed Harry materializing.
“What are you doing getting emotional,” asked Greyback.
“I’m not,” said Draco, getting up.
“Where is Severus?” asked a woman deatheater.
“I don’t know,” said the werewolf.
“Come on Draco, see that girl and the other order members we need to go now.”
“Wait,” said Draco walking over to harry.
“Leave the boy!” shouted Greyback.
“I have been waiting my whole life for this,” sneered Draco putting his wand up to the temple of the sobbing Harry.
Hermione couldn’t run, every time she tried to move she tripped. She realized that she had failed.
“You aren’t going to do it Draco,” said harry.
“I will. My whole life i have lived up to this moment. If i could not be your friend i am your enemy. Enemies kill each other. You should know that, Potter. You are sitting there, crying your eyes out over some dead and stupid headmaster. And i am standing here, i have a wand. You are at my mercy, i am able to kill you with two simple words.”
“You’re not going to do it,” said Harry quietly.
I couldn’t move.
“I just killed Dumbledore, do you think that i am not capable of killing you?” said Draco lightly.
“Yes,” Harry sneered, looking up at Draco. For a short second he glanced at Hermione and seemed to be filling up with grief and sorrow.
“Well i am about to prove your wrong there,” said Draco Malfoy. He raised his wand. Opening his mouth, everything seemed to slow down. He mouth formed the words slowly, pronouncing every syllable. “Avada Kadvra!” he shouted into the night air.
“Harry!” shrieked Hermione as she watched Harry crumple to the ground when the blast of green light hit him. “What the hell did you do to him?” asked Hermione staring at Draco.
“What does it look like Mudblood,” Draco sneered. “He’s dead and no one will miss him.”
“That’s a lie.”
“Where is Severus?” asked the woman again.
”It doesn’t matter,” said Malfoy. “We don’t need him. I completed the mission without him. And look, Potter is dead. We don’t need Snape. Once we tell this to the Dark Lord he is bound to side with Aunt Bella. Lets just say that Snape will not be around for much longer.”
Greyback smiled. “Ah yes Draco, i do say that that is indeed what will happen.”
Hermione couldn’t stay any of this. Feeling overwhelmed with guilt she felt like screaming. Not only was Dumbledore dead, but now Harry was dead too. She couldn’t stand the fact that no matter how it happened Dumbledore seemed doomed to die. And she could never escape the fact that if she had not tampered with time then Harry would still be alive. And now he was dead, and it was all her fault.
One more time she thought setting the dials on the timeturner. She wasn’t quite sure what dials she was pressing, so flustered she was. She could of sworn that she had only turned it back a couple hours. But before she was able to check she felt the wind rushing past her and there she was, back on the tower.
The sun was shining brightly. That’s not too bad. I’m only a couple of hours off. All i have to do is stay hidden until then.
Walking down the tower’s steps she went into the hall, full of students that she didn’t recognize.
How much did i turn it back? she wondered as she walked through the hall, the students seemed to look at her once or twice giving her a couple second looks. Well if they just saw me go in the other direction then they should look at me a little funny. she reasoned. Was it just her, or did she not recognize any of the students that were here.
No wait, she did recognize someone. There’s Harry. thought Hermione. But he shouldn’t be here and since when did he know those people?
She came up closer to him, Harry wasn’t facing her, the boys that he was talking to looked oddly familiar, but not from Hogwarts.
“Harry?” she said to the boy.
The other boys looked at the strange girl who seemed to have dropped out of no where. Hermione felt a jolt go through her stomach as she recognized them. But it can’t be. She thought. Unless...
Harry spun around. It was Harry, but yet it wasn’t.
“Who are you?” asked the boy.
“You’re not Harry, I take it,” said Hermione nervously.
“I have never heard of a Harry,” said a tall black haired boy from behind him. “Moony you’ve ever heard of a Harry?”
“Some where, but not here,” said the brown haired boy peering at Hermione.
“I’ve never seen her before,” said a fat boy, shorter than the rest of them.
The boy who looked like Harry gaped at Hermione, his black hair falling into his eyes. “You must have us confused. I’m James Potter.”
A/N: I don't own harry Potter.
