That night, after Harry, Hermione, Ron, Millicent, Dean, Neville, Ginny, Lavender and Draco had played a massive tournament of Exploding Snap (Neville came out victorious) Draco and Hermione retreated back to their dorm. Draco had been unusually quiet since his lunch time realization, and Hermione had noticed, but hadn't pressed the matter because no matter how quiet Draco had been, he'd still been happy.
Finally, when they were both in their pajamas and sitting on Hermione's couch, did Hermione ask what had been on Draco's mind all day.
He looked at her, her hair pulled into a pony tail at the base of her neck, her makeup (what little she actually wore) removed, and a mug of steaming hot chocolate in her hands. She had her feet tucked up under herself, and wore pajamas with clouds and the blue sky on them.
"I...I love you," Draco said. Hermione's eyes snapped up at him.
"Are you sure?" She asked.
Draco nodded. "I didn't think it was possible, but I've had a while to stew on it, and yes, I love you Hermione." He waited for her reaction.
"Draco, I don't know how to react..."
"How about honestly?" He asked.
"Honestly? Honestly, I don't know what to think or to say? How do I know that you're not just saying that so I'll...so I'll..."
"Sleep with me?" Draco filled in.
"So that is your plan?" Hermione set her mug on the coffee table and stood, pacing in front of the fireplace.
"No, Hermione, that is NOT my plan. It never has been and it never will be. Those three words....have never come out of my mouth, not to my own parents, not to anyone. I don't take them lightly, and I can't believe you think that I'd just...just...oh forget it!" He yelled, standing up and heading toward his dorm.
"Draco!" Hermione called up the stairs after him.
"What?" He yelled without turning around.
"I'm sorry," she said.
"Yeah well forget it ever happened. Forget I said anything. Forget you, Hermione!" Draco slammed his bedroom door shut and Hermione felt the dorm walls rattle.
"You really overreacted there, dear," wheezed a picture of an older, elderly witch. Hermione promptly burst into tears over the whole situation and headed straight for the Gryffindor common room. Hopefully Ron or Harry were still awake.....
