Oh, dear.

This was a positively gut-wrenching one-shot. It definitely had my heart breaking.

I loved the way you laid the foundation for what I knew would be the logical conclusion. In doing so, you made her ultimate sacrifice that much deeper and more meaningful. It was always hugely powerful - there's a reason it's given so much emphasis in the books - but the change of heart she has really shows an evolution in her character and her priorities. Of course Harry is still her top priority... but she's sad to know that she won't be there for him, especially with James dead.

I also really liked the interactions between her and James that you talked about throughout the piece. I think it added a depth to their relationship as well - even though it was a short piece, the evolution from the paper thrown at his head to the death eaters at Hogwarts to the death eaters outside of Hogwarts to the night Voldemort visited, I could see a real evolution in his feelings about her in some ways and almost no change in others contained in remarkably few words.

Amazing job.

I'm gonna cry
This review has to be more than 20 letters long so that is the purpose of this sentence.

Author's Response: Hopefully the crying is because it's a good one-shot, not because it was terrible! :P

Haha, but thank you for leaving a review! :)

Hey there, dear!

First of all, Congratulations on winning Featured Story! :D And now... on to your review! :)

I think this is just the most perfect one-shot I've ever read. It's not long, but it's so full of so many different things: sadness, happiness, love, hate, bravery, sacrifice... Gah! It's just SO good!

I really loved how you showed several different moments in Lily's life where she sacrificed herself for someone else, because that really gives a lot of insight into who Lily is as a character. And I also think you did a fantastic job of showing how very young Lily and James still were when they got married and had Harry; yes, of course, they were adults, but they were still young and had their whole lives ahead of them, and it's a shame that they had to live with such constant fear.

I love the rebellious nature you gave to Lily! And the description of her final moments - just trying to touch Harry one last time... it's so... her.

I think everything flowed wonderfully and there were no spelling or grammar mistakes either, so kudos on that as well!

Great job, dear!! 10/10 and going in my favorites!

Author's Response: Thanks, Jayde! :D

Review #4, by marauderfan Sacrifice

25th April 2014:
This is a great one-shot. The little glimpses into Lily's history with sacrificing herself were sweet, but what really makes the story shine is the part where Lily is 18. Her sheer determination, and insistence that if she gives her all to the war, that they will win - I just really loved that section, it's so sad in Lily's naivety (and arrogance - she is quite suited to James after all :P ) but her hope is so powerful. I don't know, I just really love the tone of that section, because it's clear that this is almost the end for her, and she's so sure it will be all right just because she's got so much confidence. Ah, it's so sad - like she knows of the danger, but refuses to admit it to herself because then she'll actually have to stop to consider how dangerous and scary everything is and she doesn't even want to think it. (Gah, I don't even know if I'm making sense anymore, I just loved it.)

And then of course the last section, her with Harry - the whole beginning of the story adds so much depth to the Lily who stood there before Voldemort and sacrificed herself. The bit about Harry's hand was so poignant :(

Wonderful job with this fic Kayla! ♥

Author's Response: Ahhh, thank you so much, Kristin! ♥ ♥

Review #5, by 800 words of heaven Sacrifice

21st February 2014:

I was going to review your speed dating entry, since it is my current goal to review them all, but it felt like cheating using review tag to do that. Also, this story had no reviews, and I'm a sucker for Marauders fics.

I really liked this look at Lily. I get really annoyed at characters who are so self-sacrificing, and those were my feelings towards Lily at the beginning of this fic. However, as the story progressed, I started to see her side of the story. That conversation with James when she was eighteen was HEARTBREAKING. I had actual tears in my eyes - great use of foreshadowing by the way. Totally heart-pulled-out-of-chest-I'm-dying but also totally awesome :)

And as always, there was that completely and utterly gut-wrenching moment which are Lily's last moments. That one last touch with her son was a beautiful moment and had me clutching my computer screen because of all the feels.

Awesome stuff! Please excuse me while I go wail about the unfairness that is Lily and James Potter's deaths.

Author's Response: HELLO!

Yeah, I usually get annoyed at those types of characters but this little bugger was stuck in my head and didn't go away until I wrote it :p But I quite liked writing this piece!

When I was writing it I was like WHY AM I DOING THIS TO MYSELF FHJERHRBFKJFNJ?! Hahaha!

Thank you so much for this absolutely amazing review! I'm so sorry about the delay in the response!
