Review #1, by TidalDragon James II and Lily II

1st May 2014:
Hello again! Resuming my quest to R&R everything Golden Paw nominated (though I have abandoned my insane quest to hit every chapter) and I find myself landing on another of your stories.

This was a nice little piece about being siblings. I'll confess from the outset that I have zero experience here, being an only child, but it's exactly how I imagine things might be between an older brother and a younger sister who are very different people (putting gender aside altogether).

You set up James (II) as the kind of mischievous character we see in the epilogue, constantly willing to prod his siblings, right from the off with him calling Lily (II) "Loony" after her middle name. Funny.

Then you set up Lily (II) as someone very different from most portrayals, slightly bookish and prone to nervousness, but not without a certain sharpness. It made a good contrast with James (II) and made the driving lines from the beginning and end work well.

I also enjoyed the symmetry those driving lines provided, bringing the story full circle, and it was a nice touch showing the protective side of James (II) that I'm sure would really be there if we ever got a Next-Gen novel out of JKR.

It was an enjoyable read! Good luck!

Author's Response: Hello! That quest would have been tricky, VERY tricky, and probably have involved a lot of late nights...

It's good that that's how you imagine it. This is the way it often is between me and my sister, so I'm glad it came through properly.

Ah, that's so nice! Thank you :)

Thanks for reading, reviewing, and the luck! (Also, congratulations on coming third in the Murder Mystery Challenge!)

Awww! This is so sweet! And such a refresher from all of the sad I've been reading! xD

This is one of those perfect examples of sibling rivalries! Me and my brother to the tooth and nail here! Only I can pick on and beat him up! ;) I'll take care of anyone else who tries to do otherwise. That's why I like this story. It's so easy to relate to because I'm a sibling myself! ;)

I like that she's in Ravenclaw, and that you explained that it's not just because she's witty and clever, and that you broke down all of the Houses. It was really sweet, and it gave us insight of all the characters without having to be really introduced! :)

Really, this was super sweet and super cute! Great job! :D I had lots of fun reading it!

~Mae

Author's Response: Hello there! Don't spend too much time on the sad stuff! ;)

I'm a sibling too! I'm the older, so I was trying to think of what I'd do if my sibling was being bullied... ;)

Thank you!

Blackout Battle!

Haha I loved this! There are seldom stories focused on the sibling relationship and I loved your portrayal of James II and Lily II. Their relationship was written adorably and I enjoyed it. It was such a light and enjoyable read, and made me smile at times.

The dialogue was quirky and amusing to read. The narrative description was also nicely written and flowed well with the mood of the story. The slightly discomforting spacing was the only issue here, otherwise, this was an awesome read.

Good job!

Author's Response: Hiya!

Thank you! I wrote this story for the Siblings Challenge, so I'm glad you found their relationship adorable. :D

Thank you (again)! This is such a kind review, it made me smile :). I'm definitely going to go back and edit this for the spacing.

Thank you for reading and reviewing!

Review #4, by Iellwen James II and Lily II

Hi there! Hissin' at ya for the Blackout Battle!! :D

I have to say, I'm usually not much of a next generation fan but that was a refreshing read! Light and fun, spiced with a bit of action and emotions; read it in one go! ^^
I love the way Lily II looked at the tables as the Hat was mumbling about placing her, weighing the options and blowing it's own horn ('my amazing songs' ♥ !).
The relationship between the siblings is adorable and I inwardly squealed as James swooped in and sav-- I mean protected her like that :D

My fav' quote is either "We got a Potter! Take that, Gryffindor!" or "Turned out it was a ph-enix. Whatever." :D
Nice touch repeating the first sentences in the end and sprinkling love for the finale ^^

You have a slight spacing issue but it's no biggie (the curse of copy/pasting... Have you tried the "copy as plain text" button?). I have otherwise nothing else to point out :D

Thanks for such a nice read!
Cheers! :)

Author's Response: Roooarrr! Hehe.

I'm glad you liked it for a non-Next-Gen fan. The tables thing was me working out which house to put her in and deciding on Ravenclaw. I was going to get rid of it, but it actually fitted quite well, so I left it.

I got the siblings right? Yay! I wrote this for the Siblings Challenge, so that is definitely good to hear. :) James II is just the type to come swooping in and sav-- I mean protecting people like that. ;)

Oh wow thank you! I love it when people say they have a favourite part (it's only happened once before). Thank you so much! Haha, I wanted to point out the changes in Lily II's feelings towards James II.

Ack, spacing... I hate that problem. Thanks for pointing this out. (Yes, I have tried that button but it was with a chapter full of italics, which just annoyed me so I've kinda gone off that button. I can try it again though.)

You're welcome!
