Hey this is a really good start to your story. I'm excited to see where it will go, and I already love Millie. I was a bit dubious at first with the title, but it's much better than I thought it would be. Keep the good work up :D

Review #4, by EnigmaticEyes16 Day 1

10th January 2013:
Hey hey hey! This is an interesting start to a story! It's certainly not everyday you read a story where the main character cusses out the professor. Very non-mainstream indeed, lol.

And by the way, I totally laughed out loud (for real) when I read Millie's full name. I'm curious as to what sort of parents she has for them to name her Mildred Skye Walker. I also assume that this evil Professor Clearwater is in fact Penelope Clearwater? But that could just be a coincidence. Although if it is, I'm curious as to what got into her. She seems very Snape-like, except for the fact that he never took points off his own house.

Anywho, this was a lovely chapter and I'll definitely be back to read more.

I'm liking Millie more and more as the story goes on. I like how she wants to be her own hero. I think that's awesome and I love independent characters :)
I also really liked when she told off Turk -it was pretty funny.
Berkley is amazing, of course, and I love him ❤❤
Update soon!! (And Wonderland!)

Author's Response: Thank you so much! I'm glad that you're enjoying it - and that you like Millie! That makes me happy :) Writing her comeback to Turk was really fun - glad that you liked it!
And gah everyone loves Berkley and that makes me smile like an idiot haha.
I'll try to update soon! Wonderland is the next story to be updated and then there'll be a new oneshot and a short story collection about Lucy Weasley to look out for :D

Why did the hipster burn his tongue? :)

This chapter was so much fun to read, I can't wait for you to update sole more of it! And that Mean Girls quote is epic -- but then again, the whole movie is epic!

I love Millie. She's so awesome -- although she already was, before being awesome was too mainstream.

Anyway. Have I said how much I was enjoying this story? Well, now you know.

(He drank his tea before it was cool.)

I'm so glad that you enjoyed this chapter! Thank you! It was a lot of fun to write and that Mean Girls quote just made it all the better for me. One of my few hipster claims to fame is that I saw Mean Girls in the movie theatre before it was cool and all that ;)
And I'm so happy that you love Millie! Seriously, I'm always afraid that people are going to find her annoying so yay! I'm happy camper!
Thanks for reading and reviewing! I'll try to update soon :D

Review #12, by peanuts11 Day 4

8th November 2012:
I love how this story doesn't have/conform to cliches. Millie and Berkley's friendship is so endearing. Despite her messups, however plentiful they are, he always looks out for Millie. I love the depiction of their friendship. it's so realistic because friends are always there for you, even when you come up with harebrained schemes. You are also so good at characterising all the characters we've encountered so far.

I also love the pace of the story, sometimes characters who are dealing with breakups seem way to preoccupied and hurt and then it seems to take up most of their lives and narrative, which can be quite annoying but with Millie, you can see that she has other things to deal with as well.

Love when she says "slaggy boyfriend thief that she is" - made me chuckle haha.

My only criticism is you need to update more haha

Author's Response: Thank you so much! I'm so glad that you enjoyed this story and that it didn't really have any cliches - that's something that I'm working really hard at. I love Millie and Berkley's friendship too and a lot of readers seem to as well which makes me happy. It's something that I'm really proud of.

And I'm so glad that you like what I've done with Millie's character and how she's dealing with the break-up. I mean, it's definitely something that's on the back of her mind and this whole hipster thing is her own way of distracting herself, but I didn't want it to define her. So thank you!

And I know I'm so bad at updating haha. Let's hope that 2013 is a better writing year for me :)

Thanks for reading and reviewing! I'll try to update soon!

By the way, her telling off Turk was absolutely brill. I loved her comeback. I swear I'm going to use that one day.

Author's Response: Thank you! I'm glad that you liked her comeback; I spent a lot of time coming up with it haha. awh YES! you updated! (:

egads. you have no idea how happy i am about that whole planned showing-off scene thing (though it admittedly failed) but still! it was really lovely. and have i ever mentioned how amazing Berkley is?

And who is this smith? i like this smith. i think smith likes her - or james and tuck are just being prats.

anyway, please oh please Jess don't take forever to update this story :( waah. we all love (millie) you. :D

Author's Response: Thank you so much! I'm so sorry for taking so long to update, but I'm glad that you enjoyed this chapter!

I'm glad that you enjoyed the showing off scene; it was extremely fun to write - as is writing Berkley. A lot of people seem to like him and that makes me very happy!

I believe you have a name switch here! Honoriah Smith is a girl; she's dating Ferris Nott - Millie's ex-boyfriend. I think you mean Wood? Alaric Wood? He's Oliver Wood's middle child and a very nice boy. Maybe he likes Millie, maybe not; I am neither denying nor confirming :)

I'll try not to take too long to update although it may be a month or so because I have to update Wonderland and I'm entered in two challenges on the forums. But I will do my best!

Thanks for reading and reviewing! :D

Review #21, by daretodream Day 3

14th August 2012:
Last chapter? Oh no...

Gwyneth. Absolutely, positively HILARIOUS. She is frighteningly cheerful, I definitely understood that. For sure. If I was Millie, I also would have wanted to run in the opposite direction. No one person should ever be that sweet and nice all the time. It can't be natural, honestly.

But Honoria that's Ferris's new girl. I can't help but find her name slightly ironic (maybe it's just me?). But I agree with Millie. As happy as I am for her that she is getting away from having to do her patrols with Ferris, I wouldn't want him paired up with Honoria either. Bad behavior shouldn't be rewarded, now should it? And this is definitely a reward...

Seriously though Millie, a hippogriff. SERIOUSLY? Thank God Berkley was there to save you, or else you would be Buckbeak food right now, wouldn't you? Yes. Yes you would.

A HIPPOGRIFF. That's quite the trend though, honestly. If it catches on, there are going to be quite a few students in the hospital wing, especially if they all have the same knowledge of hippogriff's that Millie does.

Berkley saved her though, because what else are boys good for? And not only did he save her, he got her the quill that she wanted. Now THAT'S what I call a best friend.

Then again, he did heal her wounds himself instead of taking her to the hospital wing, so maybe we shouldn't give him to much credit.

I LOVED the last line. It was flat out hilarious.

I like the title, but I think that if you hate it that much and you think of something else that you like more, you should change it. It's your story and if you don't like something about it, make it so you do like it. Though I understand how hard it can be to think up new titles :/

Another SPECTACULAR chapter. I'm adding this to my favorites, so when you post a new one(hopefully soon) you'll be hearing from me again.

Author's Response: Hi again! Thank you so much! I think this chapter was my favorite to write so far and I'm so glad that you enjoyed it!
Gwyneth was a last minute decision but I'm SO glad that I decided to put her in; I love her and her annoyingly perky self and can't wait to use her in other scenes. But you're right, being so happy all the time is completely unnatural haha.
I mentioned Honoria in passing in the previous chapter (I'm not sure if many people picked that up haha) but I like how you pointed out that her name is ironic! I honestly didn't even notice that (it just goes to show how our English teachers are wrong when they talk about intended symbolism in books; sometimes they're just an accident). Although your explanation makes me sound much cooler than I am, I actually chose the name because of the word it rhymns with (as stated in chapter 2; I would write it here but it's a bit inappropriate).
And yes! The Hippogriff! I had this idea after I published the first chapter and it was so exciting to finally get to use it! Berkley definitely saved Millie's butt there and we'll find out if the whole thing was worth it in the next chapter.
I think Berkley definitely rides on the edge of the fine line between being a good friend and a bad one. I mean, he saved her but then didn't take her to the hospital wing. As amusing as it is, it's kind of messed up. But I wouldn't be too mad at him because his awesomeness and the last line (flare for the dramatics, eh?) make up for it.
I'm glad that you like the title! It seems that I'm the only one who doesn't, haha. Unless I think of something REALLY amazing (I haven't yet so far) I think I'm going to keep it as is. Thanks for the input!
So again, thank you so very much for leaving me three lovely reviews for this story (and for favoriting it); I really appreciate it!!! I'll try to update soon!

Review #22, by daretodream Day 2

14th August 2012:

Well, Ferris Nott is a great big jerk isn't he? (I have a list of other words for him as well, but seeing as they're not review appropriate I will follow Millie's example and keep my thoughts to myself :D)

Seriously though, who breaks up with a girl and has a new one by TUESDAY. That's not only mean, that's flat out ambitious. And whoever the girl is well, you can imagine my thoughts about her as well. Can anybody say rebound? I can.

I'm already in love with James Potter, my love affair with him is a big problem. One that I only see getting worse as this story goes on, really.

I'm super glad that her ex wasn't James. Again with the originality and breaking all the stereotypes, I love it. But seriously, had her ex been James it would have been a classic get back together story. I like this one better, it's new and different.

Berkley still cracks me up. I love that he isn't afraid to tell Millie exactly how he feels, and he doesn't sugarcoat it either. Plus he doesn't like Sherri, which I find amusing. I absolutely died at some of his sarcastic comments though, like about Millie being a klepto. Perfect.

Sherri. She's one of those characters who everybody has a real life counterpart of. That girl you talk to sometimes when it is convenient so you don't get lonely. Perfect.

Once again, I loved this chapter :D Amazing job 10/10

Author's Response: *waves back* Hi there! Thanks again for reviewing this! Ferris is definitely a big jerk (amongst other words that we cannot use in reviews). I'm finding that a lot of my Ravenclaw characters have some Slytherin qualities in them, which is interesting to me because I guess there's a fine line between the two houses if you think about it, and Ferris exhibits this. He's calculating. And he disregards other's feelings if it gets him what he wants. Whether it's a rebound or not, only time will tell.
Aww I'm glad that you like James! It's a bit hard to write two stories with James characters and make a distinction between them so I'm glad you like him! I do too :)
It's really funny, I think, how so many people had thought James was going to be the ex; I hadn't even considered such a thing while writing it - it just wasn't a part of the story I wanted to tell. And I'm glad that you think I'm so original! It makes me feel so awesome!
Everyone loves Berkley, haha. I think the two of them are at the point in their friendship where they just tell it how it is; they're so comfortable with one another.
Sherri! Ahhh I love that girl and judging by some reviews I've gotten I think I'm in the minority here haha. But she has a purpose and great qualities and I felt that Millie needed at least one female friend - even if they weren't besties.
Thank you so much for leaving me such a lovely review! Everything that you say is very sweet and makes me smile :D

Review #23, by daretodream Day 1

14th August 2012:

So I've actually been meaning to read this story for a long time...I just have the attention span of a 3 year old, so I always forget.

I love your writing style. I think you're really funny, and you manage to be that way without the one liners seeming to be out of place. Millie's thought process is hilarious mostly because it's believable. The funniest part is that it is easy to imagine someone actually thinking like that, it's not ridiculously out there.

I think Berkley is my favorite character. And what is this, a male best friend the main character won't fall in love with? While those can be wonderful stories, this is just refreshing. Berkley is everything the obnoxious female best friend always aims to be, only he goes one step further. He's male. I love it.

I think the flow of the story is fine, and I'm really interested in the suspense of who she saw kissing who at the breakfast table. Obviously, this was a bit of a big deal, if it prompted this sort of change.

I really like the title of the story. I think it's funny and unique and it will draw people in.

The only negative thing I have to say (and it's a small one at that) is that you have a few typos in here. Only a few though, they're not obnoxious or distracting. They're the kind that are bound to happen, even if you read over your own writing, because the words aren't spelt wrong, it's just the wrong word, do you know what I mean? It happens to me all the time, because when you read it over, you know what it is supposed to say, so you don't notice that one letter is off.

You might have someone already looking at those, or already be aware of them and are going to change them when you edit, but if not, feel free to send me a PM and I can message you the ones that I noticed.

I absolutely loved this first chapter! You did a MAGNIFICENT job! 10/10

Author's Response: Hi Cassie! Thank you so much for stopping by and leaving me such in depth reviews! Your input is very much appreciated!
For some reason this story makes me really nervous - espeically on the humor front - and I think it's because the main character is nothing like the one from my other story so I'm not as comfortable with it yet (but I'm certainly getting there!) It's not as in-your-face humor and I'm always worried that it's not coming across so I'm glad (and relieved!) that you think it's funny!
Everyone loves Berkley, haha! He was an immediate fan-favorite when I published this and I'm so happy about that! And thank you for all of your lovely comments about his role as Millie's best friend! I'm so flattered! Male characters can be a bit hard for me sometimes but Berkley is definitely the one I'm the most proud of.
And thank you for the reassurance about the flow; this is the first time I've ever written in the present tense (I'm finding that I love it!) so sometimes I'm unsure of how I'm doing with it.
I'm glad that you like the title; I'm still a bit iffy about it so I'm trying to get an overall census on it.
Thank you so much for your offer! I know exactly what you mean and I'm definitely going to take you up on that and send it over. Having another pair of eyes is a big help; I should get a beta but my updates can be slow at times and when I finish I just want to get the chapter out. So thank you; that's a really big help!
I cannot thank you enough for looking this over; I really appreciate the thorough review and all of your compliments and criticism! Your input is really great!

Review #25, by Serendipity1234 Day 3

11th August 2012:
It's pretty good so far and I'm looking forward to seeing where this goes :) I really like Berkley ❤ and his quip at the end was pretty funny. He just seems kind of adorable because he's protective and sweet. And how he was uncharacteristically rumpled when he came to find her probably because he was worried ❤❤
Millie bugs me a bit, but that's only because I think the whole hipster thing is stupid in general. Though that's obviously a theme here haha. I do find her endearing and amiable most of the time, though.
I think you should describe the Hipogriff feather because while I'm sure it's probably different from an owl feather I'm not quite sure how obviously different you mean for it to be. Is it very ostentatious? Or is it just kind of peculiar and makes you take a second glance? Very original idea, I must say. It's kind of funny that she's a wizard hipster because wizards kind of don't change over time. They stick wih their traditional old-fashioned things (who really knows why?) but Millie sort of finds a hybrid idea that's new but not muggle. That's actually pretty clever -maybe she should be a businesswoman rather than a hipster ;)
I really want to know more about her old relationship with Ferris -like how close were they? Why did they break up? And how did he break up with her? And what's he /like/?
I wouldn't mind if you changed the title, but I don't think there's anything wrong with it. It does grab your attention.

Update soon :)
AND WONDERLAND. Because I LOVE Wonderland ❤❤❤

Author's Response: Thank you so much! I'm glad that you enjoyed it! Berkley has collected quite the fanclub so far, haha! I love him too; he can be a jerk but he's lovable at the same time. His friendship with Millie is very important to him and while she can give him quite the headache, he's willing to throw himself out there for her. I find it interesting that they each have a difficult time expressing in words exactly how much they mean to each other so they instead like to show it in their actions. It's peculiar but sweet at the same time.
I can understand that Millie would bug you a bit, but I'm glad that she has some redeeming qualities! And while I love Hipsters, the absurdity of Millie's actions is definitely a theme so you're correct on that front!
Thank you for pointing out that I didn't describe the feather in this chapter; I didn't realize that I left that out and I'll be sure to include it in the next chapter. Since Hippogriff's have the head of an eagle, I imagine that it's a large feather, but there's no special pattern or anything to it. It's more of the principle of the thing, haha.
And thank you for thinking that this is original! I try to contribute originality to the archives as much as possible! And I really like the way you described how Millie's intergrated Muggle life into the Wizarding World, making it a "Hybrid" - I really like that so thanks. And I'm sure her parents would love it if she became a businesswoman! She certainly has the qualifications for it, being a studious Ravenclaw and all ;)
I'm also glad that you're so intrigued by the whole Millie/Ferris relationship; I'll be revealing more and more about them as a couple as time goes by :)
Thank you so much for reading and reviewing - and for your input on the title; I really appreciate it! I'll try to update this soon and an update for Wonderland shouldn't be too far off :D
