Review #1, by Crumple-Horned Snorkack Empty Chairs at Empty Tables

4th May 2015:
Greetings. I am the Crumple-Horned Snorkack, elusive inhabitant of the northern boreal forests who has temporarily ventured out into the internet to review your story!

My goodness, this was so sad. I mean, I expected that, given the title, but this was just incredible. Poor Remus. You've so expressively captured his loneliness and worries and this sad visit to his past - and topped it all off with the saddest song in Les Mis. AND MY HEART IS BREAKING.

Remus visiting the memorial was so touching, and it put me to mind of when Harry visited it, so I was already an emotional wreck 2 paragraphs in. Then when he goes in and it brings back all these memories of his loved ones in such a familiar place, and James' happy family - you reveal the time period of this story and that makes it even more poignant, as Remus has a family now too and has just run out on them. That bit of information feels like Bigfoot just kicked me in the stomach, or like I've been run over by Blibbering Humdingers.

The last section is my favourite though - your writing there is absolutely beautiful and when combined with the song lyrics - it's like Remus is seeing the ghosts of his friends, with all their idiosyncrasies like James' hair ruffling - as they laugh and live and work on their war effort. Just the atmosphere in this part of the old, broken building full of happy ghosts - gah. So sad, but SO GOOD.

You did a wonderful job on this! I am so glad I found it. But now it is time for me to depart, and return to my hiding place deep in the forest where I can cry about the unfairness that is Remus being left all alone by the war.

Author's Response: Oo you exist- I shall keep this review forever to prove your existence to Hermione :)

I had the idea for this watching the Les Mis anniversary concert and it suddenly hit me how this song suited poor poor Remus. I thought, when he was going through such a crisis he would go back to where he was happiest, an obviously he couldn't go back to Hogwarts, Godrics Hollow would be it, and it seemed a good metaphor for how he would've been feeling. And the song just leant itself to him seeing the ghosts of his friends.

It is just such a sad situation- he thinks he's doing what's best for his family by leaving them, but that's conflicting with what he knows his best friends would say. I'm pretty sure I shed a couple of tears writing it because, you know- Poor Poor Remus. Poor Sirius, James and Lily, Poor everyone really.

I'm sorry for making you cry, but I'm very very pleased you liked it so thank you :D x

hey hey!!! Lovely to see you back with some new writing, and what a brilliant way to come back as well. I really did love this story, been reading your work for nigh on three years now and this is well up there, definitely one of the single-best chapters you've produced on here. Loved the story from Remus's point of view, you know how much I like him as a character and I thought he was captured perfectly. And the lyrics really fit the tone of the story perfectly. All in all, a truly brilliant piece of writing and I loved it hun.

Author's Response: Wow, what a lovely review!!! Three years? thats impressive!! :) I did actually like this one haha, and once I listened to the song a couple of times it seemed to just come naturally (though I do believe someone suggested using Godric's Hollow... so thank you for that as well). I've loved Les Mis for years and this song struck me as similar to how Remus might be feeling throughout the last two books after Sirius' death :'(
And thank you again for the support over the last three years. It means so much to know that what comes out of my random brain is appreciated lol.

Amazing. That's all I can really say about this. Beautifully written and really bringing Lily, James and Sirius to life. No one really writes from Remus' point of view so this was a really great idea. Great job!

Author's Response: Awww thank you. What a lovely review! I just love this song and Remus is one of my favourite characters, they just seemed to work!!! Thank you again!
