Review #1, by Moondanser83 The Melodies of Silence

12th September 2012:
I love how this story bounces back and forth between Molly narrating, and the reader suddenly slipping inside Molly's head. It gives the story a nice feel. One minute you're going along making tea, the next it's almost like a random thought. The flow of it just feels so familiar, because this is how our minds function when we are alone.

The flash backs of her children is heart-wrenching, and nearly had me in tears... especially when the twins were mentione :'(
And by the time I got through the vision of the whole family gathered for dinner the tears started to fall. Then Arthur walks in and pulls Molly out of her vision/daydream and back to the reality of an empty house... and I had to find a tissue... lol

I absolutely loved the line: "He is the conductor, the master piece behind each line of music that is our lives."

The fact that you did this with no planning, no editing, is astounding. Yes there were parts that were a little repetitive, but that's how people think so it fits the mood of your story.

Over all an excellent piece of work!

Author's Response: Oh my goodness. This one shot is so old!! It was so nice to see a new review for it. There are a lot of things looking at it today, that I'd like to edit and clean up (especially some of the grammar and repetetive language), but I am stilly relatively happy with it considering this is a first draft sort of story.

Molly is one of my favorite characters and I enjoy writing her from time to time. Annnd Arthur... love that man. I'm glad you picked out that line!! It's always interesting to me to see what bits stand out to readers.

Annnd, yes. The weasley twins always make me a bit sad, especially with as much time as I've devoted to writing George over the past year. lol.

So glad you read this and took the time to review!! Thank you so much.

Hey!! I'm finally here to do the first of your 1st place prize reviews!! Ok, so WOW... For something that was written without planning or editing, this certainly was an excellent one-shot Malissa! :)

It's really funny, because at this college bible study group that I go to every Monday night, our group leader is really big on silence. We always have moments of silence, and he's even taught us how to meditate in silence. This one time we went on a retreat where we had to have like up to 4 hours of silence at a time, lol! I used to be scared of the quiet, to be honest. But now, ever since that retreat, I have learned to live in it. You really can learn a lot just by taking some time to sit outside on a nice spring day and sit in silence listen to the sounds of life all around you. Here as of late, Silence is something that I have slowly come to appreciate and value more and more.

Sorry to go off topic there, but all that being said; I really did like the overall theme behind this story. A lot. I absolutely LOVE Molly as a character and I appreciate what she is going through at the beginning here. I was so proud of her when she finally embraced everything at the end, and I just loved the way she was remembering certain things about each and every one of her children. That was such a sweet touch! I also couldn't help but laugh at the Percy parts, because it's so hard to picture him as good. Sometimes I forget that Percy isn't really evil in the books, lol! ^_^'

Even if you could go back and edit this, I'm still not sure I would chance anything. I like it just the way it is. Its beautiful, simplistic, and it flows really, really well; almost like a song even! I am giving it a 10 outta 10 Great job hun!! =)

Author's Response: thank you so much for this review.

Hello, I am here to review for the challenge. I am sorry for the extended delay, real life can be a pain, you know!

So, I'm going to be quick because I have class in a few minutes. Now, that is what I call awesome! While I sensed a hint of stream of consciousness, your writing mind is very controlled, which is fine. I loved this one-shot. Molly is so...Molly - she is a masterpiece, a character to be loved. I believe you did a fantastic job with this challenge!

Author's Response: Hello Shelby!

Delays and real-life happen :) I'm just very glad that you did get a chance to review this.

I was very nervous about this fic. I am usually a huge over-planner for anything I write. Despite this, it was very refreshing to write this. I'm so happy that you enjoyed this. :)

Molly is a fabulous character. Thinking of her alone in the burrow made me so sad and lonely. Her character is wonderful and basically pulled this fic along for me. :)

Thanks so much for reviewing!!!

Oh my goodness, no editing? That was great! Thoroughly enjoyable! ... now back to NaNo.

Author's Response: Lucy! Nope, no editing here... not at least till after it's been judged for the challenge. It's killing me to leave it on my page unedited. lol. I'm glad you were able to enjoy this. Good Luck with nano!!

Stunning... sweet in its complicated, layered simplicity. Beautiful... something I hope to hear in thirty years myself. Amazing!

Author's Response: Me too, me too. Thank you for the kind review. I'm glad that Molly's journey was able to move you.
