E.g. When using speech marks, they always end with some sort of finish: "Hello," Anna welcomed Sally. "How are you today?"
"Quite well."

Notice that commas, question marks and full stops (or periods) are used.

As long as you use a comma, question mark, full stop or an exclaimation mark at the end of a piece spoken text, I rather like your story and have absolutely nothing against it.
