Review #1, by Unwritten Curse

10th January 2016:
So I did a terrible thing and I read straight through to this chapter without reviewing. I'm sorry. But honestly, that's a huge compliment to you. I am so invested in this story that I just sat down and read and couldn't even pause long enough to write a review. Now that I've hit the last posted chapter I thought I'd check in again to unload everything I'm thinking and feeling. I'm probably going to forget things because I just read A LOT. But anyway…

I adore Albus and Olivia. They seem really good for each other. When she Apparated to the Madhouse and was hurt and James immediately ran to get Albus--OMG I think my heart skipped a beat. It was just too precious.

I totally thought the girl he mentioned as having mental issues was Laura. And I'm still sort of convinced that it is Laura even though he said it was a Muggle girl.

I also got kind of mad at Albus when he kept telling Olivia what to do. If he does that again I'm going to hit him. I know he's a fictional character and I can't actually hit him so I'll just hit the air instead. But still. I hate that he did that but I'm glad you included it because it shows that he's a real person. He seemed too perfect to be true but now that we're getting to know him better we see his flaws.

I have to comment on Daphne. She's such an idiot. I laughed out loud when she didn't even apologize to Olivia for saying that her mother was dead when she WASN'T.

Speaking of her mother, I still hate her. Olivia took a huge step in coming to see her and she treated her like poop. I know I should feel sorry for her because she tried to kill herself but I just can't. I just can't.

WHAT IS UP WITH JAMES? I'm dying to know. I find it interesting how mad Albus can get, yet he's always so kind to Olivia. Yet another of his flaws and I'm curious to learn more. (Random comment: I kind of hate that Albus calls James "Jay." That's such a stupid and immature comment to make and please don't change anything because of me but I read that and was like, ALBUS WHY DO YOU SHORTEN EVERYONE'S NAME. Haha.)

OMG Andreas and Martin. Totally did not expect that but I kind of love it. I'm glad to see Martin redeemed, in a way. I can sympathize with him being confused.

I love seeing Olivia and Jason becoming close. It was nice to see Olivia with family that cared about her over break. I was hoping she'd take Katie up on that offer. I could not imagine her living in the same house as Laura so I'm so glad she had somewhere else to go. And I totally fangirled over Oliver and Harry playing Quidditch as middle-aged men. AHAHAHAHA. Loved that whole scene. Again, it's cool seeing the Weasley-Potter clan through a different set of eyes.

I ALMOST FORGOT TO MENTION SCORPIUS. I'm so glad they made up! And I'm proud of Scorpius for venturing into the Gryffindor Common Room! He's putting aside his prejudices and making friends. That's what Draco should have done, so seeing Scorpius do it is like, FINALLY. For a moment I was wondering if there was going to be some Scorose action but then I remembered Cass.

Speaking of Cass, I'm glad that they discovered the blood was old and that she might not have been hurt. Now I'm back to believing that she's just hiding out until she has her baby and she'll be back. I can't imagine why she's just not responding to any letters, though. That's kind of a jerk move if all she's doing is hiding a baby. So maybe something else happened, too. I dunno. I guess we'll find out. But it's good to know that nothing terrible happened and that Scorpius is now free from blame.

I feel like things are finally calming down (a little) for Liv and I'm glad. Maybe now she can relax and enjoy her time with Albus and Scorpius. She's changed in a beautiful way even though she still has moments where she feels undeserving. I suppose if you grow up with two parents who don't care about you, you internalize that and expect others to feel the same. Poor thing.

I feel like I should offer you some con-crit since I've read this far. So here are just a couple minor things for you:

1. You use the phrase "achingly familiar" often. I know for a fact that I do this too--that I use certain phrases too often because they're my comfort zone. But I'm never 100% aware when I do it, so I thought I'd point it out for you.

2. Liv has felt a bit passive in the last couple chapters--like she's letting other characters decide what she should do. Going to visit her mom, going to see Andreas, not doing more to investigate Cass's disappearance, etc. She's letting things happen to her rather than making things happen. Remember that protagonists drive the plot, so a passive protagonist can make the plot lag a bit. For a couple chapters, that's fine. But I hope she finds her fire again soon.

I have other nitpicky things but those are personal preference so I will leave them alone.

Seriously, though, I'm excited for an update. I will review every chapter now because I won't be tempted to just speed-read through everything. I want to thank you for writing this story. It's been such a long time since I threw myself into a piece of fanfiction like this and it's been such a refreshing and nostalgic experience.

You're a very talented writer. :)

Author's Response: Gina! This review is so wonderful - don't apologise for not reviewing other chapters!! Thank you so much for all your lovely lovely comments. I'm so glad to hear that you're enjoying reading and that you like the characters.

ALSO thanks for pointing out 'achingly familiar' - I had no idea I did that but now that you've said it I can kind of see how that's something I probably write quite a lot :)

I've been looking at this review since you posted it and trying and failing to come up with an appropriate response, but basically THANK YOU THANK YOU you have no idea how much you've done for my confidence. All your kind words over the last few days have reminded me why I love Olivia and this story.

We've got 8 chapters to go now so it's nearing the end.

Thanks again!

Lots of love,

Emma xx

5th January 2016:
I really love this story!

So many interesting things are happening! Scorpius is sort of settling into Liv's new circle of friends, and getting a bit close to Rose -which I love, being a huge Scorose shipper... but this means a whole lot of drama if Cassie ever makes a come back (which I'm guessing she will? :/ I hope so, but I have no idea).

Now James is doing something a bit sketchy as well? I have no clue what is up with him... must be pretty serious though!

I'm really looking forward to the next chapter!
(And I am SO looking forward to finding out what happened to Cassie! Seriously, I need to know! :P)

-Rosiful

Author's Response: Thank you! I'm also a big ScoRose shipper, and while they're definitely not the focus of this story I wanted to give some glimpses into their developing friendship :)

More on James soon, and not too long to go before we find out about Cass!

Thanks for such a lovely review! Emma xx

I loved your story, please do write further. I want to know james' secret. I give you a 9 because you had some typing errors. Everything else was absolutely great! Keep on writing!

Author's Response: Thank you! I'm so glad you're enjoying it. I try to avoid typos but have started being a bit lazy with my proofreading so thanks for pointing that out! Emma x

3rd January 2016:
Hi, Emma!

This review will be a bit shorter than what I normally leave because, well, time is like that during the holidays.

I was sat near the fire, trying to read a book while Louis plaited bits of my hair and Jason narrated extracts of Aunt Katie’s last letter. -- Wow. It's like she was sorted there. Olivia has settled so snugly into her new circle of friends. She's even managed to drag Scorpius into it. I feel happy for her.

I see you're building a bit of ScoRose action into the story now. If Cassie ever returns -- and I really feel like she will -- this is going to get so awkward on so many levels. Olivia and Scorpius have basically transplanted themselves into a new life. Given Cassie's demanding, controlling nature, I can't imagine her reacting well.

I like the advice that Olivia gave to her cousin on the walk to the owlery. Brilliant thought experiment. And don't think I wasn't applying that same thought experiment to Olivia's relationship with Albus.

I took out the letter I’d written for Cass and passed it to Mercury. She looked disdainfully at it until Jason offered her another treat, and then she pecked my hand and flew away with the letter. I wished I had a way to ask her where she was delivering them all. Tracking owls is illegal. Apparently it’s an invasion of privacy or something. But it would be really useful. -- So the owls aren't coming back marked "return to sender" or anything like that. Interesting. Seems very likely to me that she's still out there somewhere.

Hmmnn... I wonder what James is into these days. Something bad enough to nearly bring Albus to tears, it seems.

Nice chapter! I always find time to stop by and check the new ones out. Looking forward to more...

Author's Response: Dan! Happy New Year! Thank youuu as always for such a lovely and thoughtful review. I'm so glad you're still reading :)

This is the most comfortable Olivia has been with the Gryffindors so far, mostly because Scorpius is finally in there with her and I think she needs him in her life to feel really secure. Yeah, they've basically changed their lives since Cass left.

More on Cassie soon :)

Lots of love, Emma xx

Loved this chapter! Scorpius and Rose! I love them! And more Ollie and Jason time which is always great. I love their relationship. And the cute little Al/Ollie moment at the end. But I'm really curious to what James' secret is. So many ideas are running round in my head. Do we get to find out in the next couple of chapters or are you going to keep us waiting?
Another amazing and well written chapter as always. I can't wait to read what's going to happen next.

Author's Response: So glad you enjoyed it! We've got nine more chapters to go so it'll all be revealed fairly soon now :)
