Oh thank God Albus isn't dead too. I don't know if my heart would be able to take that.

I cannot believe what's going on at Baffin Island now! That Jorgen!! Oh Rose, Lethe again. And Rose saw Scorpius kill someone to save her. I'm sure she's conflicted, but again, I think they can make it past this little mishap, right?

God, I hope so. I'm glad everyone's still okay. Our little scattered pairings are still all alive and saving the world from across the globe!

Stefanie

Author's Response: I didn't think you guys would trust me if I tried to pretend he was dead. I've done too many death fake-outs so far! It would just be cheap.

Scorpius was pretty dang cold - no jokes intended - to kill Jorgen, or at least specifically leave him to die like that. It was the right thing to do to save his neck and especially Rose's, but damn, son, cruel. I think she might understand, but that's kind of the problem. They're dealing with so many shades of grey that as the shades darken, it's hard to tell.

OH OH OH all of the things are happening. I actually think - TERRIBLE as this is - that Scorpius made the right call in leaving Helluby rather than staying to help. It was the Slytherin call, and it's all very well arguing it was the immoral call, but if it's a mission you CAN'T win, sometimes you have to put yourselves first.

And I really can't argue with him leaving that slimeball behind to die either. I really AM terrible.

Eva. UGH. I kind of hope she absolutely destroys everyone who crosses her path on her way up to rescue Al, but at the same time I also hope she doesn't do anything she regrets. Poor girl.

Author's Response: The nature of heroics get interesting, don't they? If Rose and Scorpius had stayed, maybe they could have saved lives. But they might have died. And why SHOULD they stay? They're not professionals. They're not Professional Heroes trying to Save Everyone. They're out there on a job and they've been targeted and they're in danger. Arguably there's a moral imperative to help simply because they CAN, they have the SKILLS to help. Also, the Council are attacking Helluby to get them, so a cynic could say they have a responsibility to save people in harm's way because of them.

But it's not really WRONG for them to try to save their own skins in a catastrophe.

Scorpius killing Jorgen to slow down the Inferi was COLD. Like, stone-cold Slytherin move. I honestly expected people to condemn him more for that. I wouldn't say the guy deserved it, though, but Scorpius' reasons are, of course, understandable.

Would YOU want to be in Eva's path right now?

Review #3, by Whimsical Diva

29th July 2015:
I am going to march through all your Inferi, all your Thornweavers, all your fury and might and I will keep coming. And by the time Iím done with you, you will beg for me to kill you

You know what, I really wouldn't put it past Eva to do just that. She's a scary, scary woman - and the only thing that seems to keep that ruthless side of her in check appears to be Albus. If he wavers in his morality even the slightest bit or just isn't around to keep her in check, she seems to be back to her old self. That said, I do hope she puts pay to Geiger once and for all.

And Scorpius here is acting as a perfect Slytherin - putting self-preservation above anything else. Well, if it keeps him alive, I guess I have nothing to complain about.

Update soon - and I hope the tide turns in our gang's favour in the next chapter.

Author's Response: Eva is a dangerous woman. On the one hand, she's been on the side of good, or less bad, for two years now even without Albus' help. Then again, she's not been under much pressure in all that time, and it's comparatively easy to be 'good' if you've got nothing to lose by it (which is entirely Albus' story, I suppose; the 'good' Albus of Books 1 and 2 had nothing to lose).

But now Eva's been provoked. We'll see how much she can or even wants to hold to her intentions to be a better person, with the belief Albus is gone and the belief she needs vengeance. So far she has yet to act on being her old self (even in dealing with Candlestone, she never actually did anything, just threatened).

Oddly I expected readers to condemn Scorpius more for what he did to Jorgen. Not that I think Scorpius was hugely wrong (or right, of course) for what he did, myself. It's just sometimes hard to tell what will win condemnation and what won't!

Trying to dump chapters in the queue all the time now, especially as I'm approaching the final run of the story in the writing (may be as many as 20 chapters left to go to be posted, though). Thanks for reviewing!

Review #5, by whykay

28th July 2015:
Eva and Albus are getting better and better at morals while Rose and Scorpius are venturing into the deepest grays. Matt and Selena - I somehow didn't like them much. Their masks. They are good when they lower them down.

Albus is not dead, but Eva is going to save them all. It is ironical that for all that Albus is and Albus isn't, he got caught and stayed alive because he is Harry Potter's son. So are we going to see some action from Harry and Ron? oh and also, what do you mean by the comment - Geiger and Co have the invisibility cloak? As in, because it's with Albus or they just took it? Then, that might be the first instance in the history of the Hallows that the cloak was passed other than by inheritance or loan - are you saying there will be implications??

Oh and Draco - Astoria - Lockett secrets will be revealed soon. Me thinks. Draco might actually come out and do something heroic, I hope. I think Eva will figure this out somehow.

I think Rose will soon give a talking to, to Scorpius. To not walk around and BEHAVE like a man waiting to die.. To walk around like a person to whom life was willing to give a second chance and how he was mucking it up so bad.

Post next chapter SOON please!! The queue closure really sucked. I would check everyday like a crazed fan girl.

Author's Response: Scorpius has done more dubious than Rose as of yet; she's the only one of the Big Three who hasn't particularly wavered morally. Disconnected, maybe, but she's not yet DONE anything all that dodgy.

You're very right in the assessment of Matt and Selena. They are AWFUL when they play games together. But then you've read the next chapter where that gets directly addressed! :-D

All I meant by the cloak comment is just that - Geiger and co captured Albus and so now they have the Invisibility Cloak. How that pertains to Hallows etc may or may not be relevant. What's certainly relevant is that Eva's going to fight bad guys who have an Invisibility Cloak.

Scorpius could do with a kick up the rear; unfortunately, Scorpius could also REALLY do with a reason to hope. It is, unfortunately, scary to hope.

I'm trying to keep chapters in the queue more or less all the time. ;-) Thanks for reviewing!

Review #6, by fanofgredforge

27th July 2015:
It was so unlike you to give us that respite in the end. But thanks anyways.

Author's Response: I realised going into Oblivion that toying with character death would need to be done... carefully, what with Scorpius coming back. I thought at BEST you all wouldn't believe me if I left you on a cliffhanger implying Albus was dead, making it dramatically flat/cheap.

At worst, you'd all hurt me. Either for the cliffhanger or when you realised it was another trick.

So instead I went for tension of the reader knowing Albus is alive, but seeing how Eva copes not knowing.

Thanks for reviewing!
