19th April 2013:
Regina! I knew she was more than a 12+ rated word. Iím sort of glad that restriction is in place as I donít think I could contain myself otherwise. And the tangle of confusion is unfolding! My prediction was correct :D I was wrong about everyone admiring her before, I donít admire her now! In fact, if I met her I would probably run away screaming. I think it was the line about mummy and daddy, as it reminded me of Bellatrix so much!

And Krum being drugged! I was right! I think I have found more job as seer! Well, this is probably the one time my story predictions are correct so I should contain myself. She is so manipulative itís verging on scary. The way sheís seeking revenge on Krum is so brutal, I wonder what he must have done to make her so angry and full of hate.

So the man in the suit is Hemsley! I really love this chapter as everything is unfolding and I get all of my questions answered! Iím not sure whether to feel sorry over Tommyís death, angry that he didnít protect Krum, angry at Krum for possibly killing him, or perhaps sympathetic as he did ruin his career. I think Iíll just go with confusion, as Iím pretty Rose is feeling the same as me right now!

I am currently trying to decided who is more psychotic, Bellatrix or Regina. I think itís the fact that she says she likes Rose, but sheís like Ďhey Iím going to kill you anyway, as I donít the meaning of letting things goí. I donít how Rose could stay so cool though, I would definitely be in tears now, but sheís a Weasley and they seem to be built of strong stuff.

Insert another word rated higher than 12+. Rose killed her! And with a knife! All that drama, and I never assumed it would escalate so far! I was just sitting there in shock! I think Regina was feeling the same as I am, I never assumed she was capable of murder. Yet now I think about it, I can see why she would end up doing something like that.

Oh god they do need to get rude of this 12+ rule! Regina threw the knife at Rose, what! I canít deal with all of this, especially after that light hearted chapter. It just didnít click in my head that the knife was gone, therefore, Regina must be aiming it at Rose.

Ah I have to read on, and check if Rose is alright!

-Kiana :D

Author's Response: lol, keeping it 12+ in reviews can be so hard sometimes. But considering who we are talking about, I'll definitely take that as a compliment! And you're right about that line. I hadn't thought about it before, but it does sound like something Bellatrix might say.

You totally called it! I think you're the only one so far...

I'm so glad you liked the way everything sort of came full circle in this chapter. I worried a bit it was too much of an information dump right at the end. And I think confusion is a perfectly acceptable response :P When it comes to what happened to between Krum and Tommy and Hemsley, I don't think there is one real, clear-cut villain.

The Weasleys are tough, aren't they? Maybe that's why I enjoyed writing Rose so much. She handles Regina's crazy a lot better than I would. I'd have been in tears by this point too.

In my head, I don't think Rose ever thought it would go this far either. I'm really glad if it all unfolded in a way you weren't expecting. Even with the hints in the prologue, a last minute surprise ending was definitely what I was going for!

Thank you so much for the review!!

Review #2, by CambAngst

9th April 2013:
Out of all the chapters of this story, I'm finding this one to be the hardest to review. It's tough to even know where to start. This was the chapter where everything came crashing together. Every character, every event, every stray plot thread -- well, every one that I can think of, anyway -- they all converged in this unbelievable roller coaster ride of suspense, fear and "oh my god, so THAT's why ABC happened way back in chapter N!" I think it's going to be incredibly hard to review this without sounding like a gushing, squeeing mess of a fanboy, but here goes. I owe you a good faith attempt, but I can't promise much.

The way you wrote Regina was absolutely terrifying. She was cold as ice, but imbued with the same false sweetness I remember from her first appearance. Her maniacal hatred of Viktor was combined with a win-at-all-costs compulsion and a fiendish sort of genius. She was going to take absolutely everything from him and then leave him to take the fall for it. Rose's life was nothing more than a tool she was using to cause him pain. I felt like I was seeing shades of Jami's Bellatrix, but with a more controlled and focused strain of sociopathy. What makes it even worse, at least to me, is that Viktor's only "crime" was disappointing this horrible, shallow, fake, manipulative person by turning to an out-of-control lifestyle that she probably drove him to by being such a b... um, bad person. That's how I'm interpreting things, at any rate. Maybe he would have found that lifestyle no matter what, but I'm sure she didn't help.

Poor Rose held it together better and for much longer than I would have expected. I loved all of the physical details that you used to convey her terror, anxiety and even anger.

I am completely in awe of how you wove all of these seemingly unrelated plot threads together into Regina's "master plan" to destroy Viktor. The overdose was especially brilliant. If it was me, I probably would have given in to the temptation to drop some sort of hint, some little bit of information so I could come back and waggle it in the reader's face and yell "gotcha!" later on. But Regina's not like that. She leaves no evidence. And she knew Viktor so well that she knew that he'd have drugs hidden somewhere in the flat. She's so frighteningly single-minded, it's crazy!

And then all hell broke loose. You couldn't have pulled me away from my computer while I was reading the last quarter of this chapter with a logging chain and a bulldozer. From the moment that Rose lunges at Regina until those awful final six words of the chapter was one of the most amazingly tense, suspenseful action sequences I've read anywhere on HPFF. I could feel my heart pounding when it was over, and then I was instantly empty.

This paragraph hit me like a kick to the stomach:

But that was as far as she got before she felt the impact and the pain overtook her. A horrible, ice-cold fire that spread through her back and arms. It took her breath away, stole the spell from the tip of her lips. And for a moment, even made her forget who she was. It was just pain.

I have nothing to offer you in the way of constructive criticism for this chapter. Nada. Zippo. Zilch. It was absolutely brilliant. Please accept this nearly irrelevant typo as my small attempt to brush a stray bit of dust off of your masterpiece:

But Regina had gone suddenly quite, apparently having said all she intended to on that matter. - quiet.

And with that, I'm almost at the end. I'll do some more gushing in my review for the next chapter, but please know that I mean the following with complete sincerity: This is one of the five most incredible chapters I've read on HPFF.

Author's Response: I have to start this off by apologizing for the delay in responding. A review this nice deserved a prompt response, but I shall do my best to try and make up for it now.

I tried so hard not to leave plot lines dangling out there! Since I don't plot much of my stories in advance, there were a lot of little bits here and there that I threw in along the way without knowing where it all was heading. That this chapter didn't feel like a total free-for-all is a minor miracle.

Jami's Bellatrix is awesome, and I do think Regina has some of that same psychopathy. She just channels it all into this one venue. She doesn't even really hate Rose -- she doesn't see her as enough of a person to bother hating. From my end, I didn't really see Regina as a cause of Viktor's problems in the past; I think he would have been on the same path with or without her. But she definitely didn't help, and I certainly don't think he really did anything to bring this about. He could have been a perfect husband and she would have found some reason to hate him. She had crazy inside of her -- he was just a trigger.

One of my regrets on this story is that I didn't drop more hints to the reader. I tried several times but it never came together. I tried to have Rose walk in on Regina in Krum's flat, tried to send an Auror there on an anonymous tip, have a mysterious package delivered. I even wrote out a whole scene in the last chapter where Krum and Rose arrive at his flat to find it ransacked. But I couldn't make any of it work. I always wanted the ending to be a surprise in terms of the villain being Regina, but I wish I'd threaded more of a feeling of outside danger throughout the story.

Wow, just... thank you! This was my first attempt at any real level of violence. I didn't want bloody or gory, but I was aiming for tense and real. If anyone saw my internet search history for the day I wrote this scene, I'd probably look like a psycho myself! Who knew stab wounds feel cold, not hot?

Thank you for such an amazing review. I'm really a little speechless that you liked the chapter so much. I'm sorry again for taking so long to reply. Please know it wasn't a reflection of my appreciation for your comments!

NO! I knew I hated her... that Lucius-like witch with her false pity. It's horrible!

At least we know a bit more of Krum's story and who creepy suit-man is. Gigi is the one who is absolutely derranged.

And poor Rose is the one to die? Awful and they both know he would blame himself. Whaa!

He really is a good man. Boo hoo!

Hurry, Viktor!

And here we are... only one more chapter. Oh, my goodness... I'm sprinting to the end, but I don't really want it to be end.

Excellent climactic chapter...
Dark Whisper

Author's Response: As terrible as she was, Gigi was super fun to write. I'm glad you, erm...hated her :P Not something I usually go for in a character, but in this case, I think it's a probably a good thing! And hopefully the backstory on the man in the suit wasn't too much.

Only one more to go! Thank you so, so much for all the wonderful reviews.

Review #4, by Ardeith

4th February 2013:
I'm sad this story is almost over. :-( But what a well written chapter! I felt as though I was living through it with Rose...all the tension, etc. And OMG... the cliffhanger ending with the knife!

I didn't necessarily suspect Regina, but it certainly fits. I am patting myself on the back for guessing that Krum hadn't drugged himself.

Since I'm such a Krum/Rose fan (Krose? Virose?), I was glad to see that Rose doesn't doubt him and be swayed by Regina's picture of him. Even to being okay with dying for him...

My one question is around the role of Tommy in Krum's career ending injury. Is Regina/Benny exaggerating this, because they are wack jobs? And especially Krum's role in "crucifying" Tommy? Wouldn't Rose, who after all must be the expert on Krum by now, have heard more about these rumors? Just curious...once again I loved the chapter and the whole standoff with Regina. :-)

Author's Response: Thank you, Ardeith! I'm glad you didn't suspect Regina, but that it also felt like it wasn't totally out of the blue. I wanted it to be a surprise but not a total stunner.

As for what happened with Tommy, I did actually end up going back and editing one of the chapters where Rose is doing research and added in a hint about rumors regarding Krum's accident. I realized while writing this chapter the same thing you did -- that Rose would have heard at least something about all this. Though, I'm also basing a bit of it on the idea that 25 years on, a lot of the details would have been lost/forgotten since no charges were ever filed, and that this lives on as a bigger event for Regina and Benny than for the public at large. Hopefully that isn't too much of a cheat on my part.

Thank you again for the review!

Review #5, by Jchrissy

29th January 2013:
You're killing me. You realize this, right? How did I not put the possibility of Regina being more than a scary ex wife in my head? I mean, I knew she'd probably come back... But I figured she's do something like show leave a copy or Krum's criminal record on Rose's doorstep or something. NOT murder her!!

I'm finally going to offer an opinion that isn't a mixture of flail squeals. Only for a second though, because it's just a small one. I loved hearing about the man in the suit's reason for hating Krum, and it actually is justified in a crazy way. Most people wouldn't react how he is because most people are stable enough to handle it, but he isn't so he plotted with a crazy woman. But I did want to hear more about Regina's motives. Obviously she's insane, so she doesn't need any huge reason to want to hurt Viktor, but I was curious as to what he did that (in her head) justified trying to spend her entire life ruining his. Even if all he did was leave her, maybe just a spark of passion about, 'that (insert non 12+ word here) thought walking away from out marriage would be the end of it? No one walks away from Regina McFey' -- well, that may not be my best piece of writing :P just because she dwelled so much on the Suit man'a motives, her saying she hated him just felt unbalanced.

Now, back to my squeal flails.

You had my heart going crazy this entire time. I swear, I feel like I was just in the room with Rose facing a completely crazy person. And it's so scary how smart she is, because her plan really is pretty solid. Krum doesn't have the kind of support, has lived a trust worthy enough life where anyone would put their neck on the line and think he didn't do it. Maybe Peter, but depending on what Regina put in Krums head, Peter may not either.

And now!! Oh god. Did she somehow throw the knife?! Is someone in there that we didn't see?!?!

I need to know what happens! I NEED TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENS. You wouldn't kill Rose.. I'm forcing myself to believe that.

This chapter was so, so incredible. You have no idea how jealous I am of your amazing writing style.

And this was all done on my iPhone, so please ignore any random auto corrections.

Author's Response: I've already said half of what follows to you in PM form, but since you always leave me such awesome-sauce reviews, I have to at least try and respond here with more than a long string of sqqquueeesss.

First, I'm super happy you didn't guess it was Regina. I didn't want to give it away, but I also didn't want it to be totally out of left field, like it was someone we'd never even met up until this point. If I was writing the whole story all over again, I'd have dropped a few more hints. Maybe something weird arriving in the post, or her casually mentioning that she knew where Krum kept his stash... I don't know. I just could never find the spot. Still, I hope it was a surprise but also a bit of an Of Course! kind of moment.

I'll be the first to admit I chickened out on spelling out her reasoning here. I'm trying to work it into the next chapter, but I'm not finding it fits there very well either. You'll see my PM, but I didn't know how to reveal it without it feeling melodramatic, plus there was already so much exposition. Anyway, you'll have to let me know what you think once you read the PM/the next chapter. You can let me know if you think I should edit it in :)

That aside, I'm glad you liked the chapter. And, gah!, I always get feely when someone says they like the writing style. Obviously I want people to like the story, but it's almost over. The writing itself will follow me to the next so it always means something extra special when people comment on that.

Review #6, by TearsIMustConceal

28th January 2013:

I'm completely and utterly speechless at this moment in time. Words cannot comprehend what is running through my head.

I did not expect it to be Regina, i had completely forgotten about her! But now i remember her and i hate her. HATE HER I TELL YOU!

I can't believe you've done it again. Two cliffhangers in a row? I feel like boycotting this story but i have no willpower whatsoever, i am seriously addicted now.

This chapter was seriously amazing, i've read it twice now and i am still jumping up and down with anticipation for the next chapter. How dare Regina try to kill Rose! Just because she can only get fame by writing saucy novels for bored house-witches doesn't mean she has the right to do that!

I'm going to stop ranting/praising your amazing skills and i am now eagerly awaiting the next chapter. Update soon!

Author's Response: Yay! I'm glad it was a surprise! I was hoping people wouldn't see it coming but at the same time sort of think back and go, yep, she's evil enough for it. Sorry about the second cliffy in a row, though. Hopefully you can forgive me since the next chapter is the last one and all questions will be answered.

Thank you for such a nice review. The rough draft of the next chapter is already written, and I hope to have it posted in the next few days!
