You know, I never thought about how hard it would have been for Dumbledore to just sit in his portrait and let the battle fight itself out, but it must have been extremely difficult. The one who had always pulled the strings had to sit back and hope that his work got done without him, even with a battle to the death going on in the castle itself. I wonder if he ever thought it would actually come to Hogwarts being attacked, but I really do think that you captured his mindset brilliantly in this little fic. Bound, hamstrung, he could do nothing but wait. And yes, it was his time to do just that, difficult and frustrating as that must have been. Great story!

cheers, Mel

Dumbledore - what a good viewpoint to pick! I love how you've contrasted the facts that he knows more than almost anyone else about what's going on, with the development that right now, he knows, and can do, nothing.

The writing style is beautiful in this. I particularly like the line "To listen, to fear, to worry, to hope, and to wait" - it expresses perfectly the impotence that he would feel, and the other conflicting emotions that would be caused by that. This technique, of repeating and changing concepts, is used several times to great effect, giving the impression of a well dwelt upon problem, which fits with what's going on exactly.

Cool story - edgy, tense, and a little sad.

What a clever idea, writing from the perspective of Dumbledore's painting! I really liked what you did with it. I could very much see him being upset with his inability to help those around him.

My favorite part though, would have to be the last two lines. They really affected me and set the tone for the whole piece.

Amazing work,

The thing I really liked about this was the way you reached into Dumbledore's head and conveyed the feeling of helplessness that he would certainly feel in such a situation where he was unable to help and had to just sit and wait for the news of the outcome. I'm glad you were able to portray that through your story. The emotions were very clear. Well done.

Wonderfully written! You're a very talented writer! The story is great! All the characterisations are wonderful. I love Dumbledore, and how you portrayed him as the same man he was before. The talk between the headmasters/mistresses is interesting, and the part with Phineas is spot on! An enjoyable read!
