it doesn't matter how hard you try, you're not going to make me actually like Lucius Malfoy.
However, you do, somehow manage to make me feel some sympathy for him. Well done.
The Malfoys were given a hard lesson, their home taken over, their wands taken (all of them, I'm afraid, Draco lost his mother's in the Room of Requirement (-: ) and nothing to show for all their years of devotion to Voldemort's cause.
They are a flwed and cruel family, but at least they are a family and you manage to show that nicely.

Review #3, by In The Shadows I Dwell

22nd August 2010:
What a wonderful insight into the mind of both Lucius and Narcissa Malfoy. It is clear despite their loyalty to the Dark Lord they have the ability to believe that there is something more important in this life, rather than just blind obedience such as that of Bellatrix. I particularly loved their reunion with their son, the most important thing in their lives because in the end, he was the one thing she was willing to lie to Voldemort for. The one thing she would risk death for and their union despite being written in so few words was perfect and very suitable to their personalities.

I think it's wonderful that you've got the last line in there, the fact that even Lucius is prepared to say that they are no longer Death Eaters, them merely throwing it away during battle for their son. It was a perfect ending to such a brilliant fic. I don't believe I've actually read a story in this collab from Lucius's perspective yet so the others (if I find any) will have a lot to compete with for favorite! Well done on portraying him so wonderfully and brilliantly!

Did you just make me feel something other than hatred for Lucius Malfoy? Darn you!

This is a really thought provoking and complex take on a usually vilified and two-dimensional character. I love how Lucius' front, and ego seem to crumble as the story develops, leaving only a man who loves his family. I also love how despite this he is still a Malfoy - expecting arrogance and superiority in his son. The way you've captured these contrasting aspects of the post-forest Malfoys is perfect. It's also great to hear this story from his point of view, rather than hers, as we know so much less about him, and so the blanks are so much more intriguing.

Great stuff; will have to make sure I find the rest of your contributions!

That was sweet. :) I've never seen a fic where the Malfoys actually make this decision up-front. I like that Lucius chose his family over Voldemort. I wasn't expecting that.

I never imagined that Narcissa would anyone, not even Lucius, that Harry was alive until Harry actually showed it for himself, but I suppose it could have happened, and it fits with the story's idea that Lucius finds his family more important.

The only thing I have qualms about is the use of capitalization instead of italicizing. It looks neater when you use italics to stress a word. ;)

Again, well done!

Characterizations are spot on. Really curious as to what you'll do with Draco post DH. From this, it looks like Lucius is sure that Draco's completely gone over to the Dark Side. Guess I'll need to start reading Aurors and Schoolgirls.

Filch was an excellent touch.
