Review #1, by truesablePotter and Prejudice: Pressure and Protocol

14th August 2007:
I just read through this story in the space of a few hours; I hope you don't mind that I didn't leave a review on each chapter, but honestly, they would have deteriorated into insipidity, so I decided to roll my comments all into one.

I don't quite remember where I saw this story recommended -- I think it was in someone's favorites as I was browsing the archive. Or maybe it was your signature on the forums. Anyway, I don't generally read Lily/James because they're all pretty predictable, but Pride and Prejudice happens to be one of my favorite books, so once I saw the title I couldn't resist! And I wasn't disappointed!

There's several things I love about this fic, and I'm sure I'll forget some, but I'll do my best. First of all, I love your narrative voice. It's just such a pleasure to read, and the wit you insert here and there is just fabulous. I can't remember the exact quote, but in an earlier chapter, there was a bit about a refilling plate of mashed was just so out of the blue, it cracked me up!

I also loved your Sirius. You made him seem very real: true to canon but not disgustingly cliche. His impulsiveness and boisterousness are annoying in a really endearing way; and yet there are some things he really cares about, and his enthusiasm about them is sweet. Thanks for writing him so well!

As for predictability, the main reason I don't much care for L/J fiction, it didn't much matter here. If you'll allow me to draw a comparison to Pride and Prejudice (bit trite of me, I know; I just hope you really did model your title after it, because if not, I'll end up sounding like a twit, won't I?), it's predictable, too - we all know they'll end up together (spoiler? haha), but we're still rooting for them the whole time. In the same way, Potter and Prejudice is so well-written that knowing James and Lily end up together doesn't make me rejoice any less when they kiss, or feel any less suspense and pain when you end a chapter like this!

I really do ramble without purpose, don't I? And it's the middle of the night, so if none of that makes sense (I'll look at it in the morning and realize I was completely incoherent...), I'll put it simply: I love it!

Can't wait for your next update!

Author's Response: Oh. my. god. wow. I'm in shock! This is the longest review I've ever received! Thank you :) Don't worry, this definitely more than makes up for not reviewing every single chapter!

Thanks for the comment about my narrative voice--I think I sound more like myself when I'm writing than when I'm speaking, personally. And I'm glad you liked the line about James' wildest dreams (one being the never-ending plate of mashed potatoes, of course!)

I'm so flattered about your opinion of my Sirius! I think he's a pretty difficult character to write, and I always second-guess my portrayal of him, so I'm glad you liked it!

Wow--your last point seriously is putting me on the verge of tears. You're so sweet! And yes, a bit of this story is modeled after Pride and Prejudice, just in the way that Lily is soo convinced she won't like James, but they're both a bit foolish...and then they finally fall in love after proving themselves worthy of the other. As for predictability, I'm so glad you brought it up. It is, of course, a predictable ship...and easy one to write but a hard one to write well. It makes me so happy that despite knowing exactly how the story ends, you still find yourself caught up in it. That's how I feel with really good movies, so I'm thrilled you said it!

This most certainly was not a ramble in any was the most lovely and amazing review I have ever, ever received, and I can't thank you enough for it. I hope to get the next chapter out sooner rather than later, and this review just gave me so much motivation to do so!

The fragmentation, the weaving repetition of the various refrains...wonderfully done!

Author's Response: Thanks so much!

Review #3, by truesableAfterglow: Afterglow

11th August 2007:
Absolutely brilliant! Although, admittedly, I have a soft spot for HG/SS pairings, all too often they depict Snapes and Hermiones that are disturbingly out of character. This piece is remarkably in-character, remarkably poignant, remarkably crafted - just remarkable! I intended to sit down and read one story for a few minutes, and now look what you've made me do - I have to go read the sequel!

Author's Response: Wow! It's amazing to hear (actually read) you say so - it's incredibly difficult to keep them in character at the same time as trying to pair them together, so I'm pleased that you thought it worked out. ^_^ Thank you very much!

6th August 2007:
I just read Complicated Hexigon and Remembrance in one evening, and I must say, both were simply fantastic (although I have to admit, I still don't understand everything). I'm so glad you're adding to the trilogy -- I can't wait to see what you have in store!

Author's Response: Thank you SO much for the review. A lot of things in the story are hard to understand and I'm really hoping with this third part, things become clearer in a nonconfused way. LOL. If that helps! *hugs* Thank you so much for the review and I hope you enjoy what's to come!
