Hi Amanda!

Wow, this piece was really amazing in showing the subtle changes in Lockhart and how he was gradually deteriorating and fading from the world. The use of language was so amazing here that I had to read it through a few times just to fully absorb and appreciate the story as it’s one of those that with each read through you’ll gain something new from it.

Your grasp of Lockhart’s mind was really fantastic and it almost made me sad to see the state he was in now. There were flickers of his former self with the ordering of gourmet food, the obsession over fanmail, etc. which really made me laugh as he had such a flamboyant character it was nice to see it was still there. Though that just acted as a mask for his more fragile self with the way he stumbled over words and forgot people’s names, and just seeing him so beaten down was really sad as he just didn’t seem to be aware of reality at all.

I think the ending was my favourite part with the way they dealt with Lockhart’s death and how it almost felt that Lockhart had had a final moment of clarity before it all ending with this ‘“I can be anyone I want to be.” That was his only explanation. He gave it with a smile.’ I really liked that you did gave a nod to his past as it did seem as if he did remember some with the way he had Gadding with Ghouls near him. I just wish I could have been in his mind at that point as it must have been really interesting.

The title of the memoir and how it was dressed down was really interesting as it just highlighted how we never really knew what the true Lockhart was and he could have been this boring and bleak person but we’ll just never really know.

This was a really interesting one-shot, Amanda, and I’m so glad I was paired with you!
