Ohkaay, so I should be doing productive things right now, but the crazy-talented writers on the HPFF forums have ways of saying things like, "Oh, look, I've got this really cool new fic. You should start reading it... You are getting very sleepy... You will forget everything that you have to do and come read my fic..."
Well, that's essentially what this chapter just did to me. I saw your status update and thought, "Why not?" And now I'm just babbling away in shock and awe, because this chapter has rendered me incapable of stringing together words that are not "Praise you, great Author, for I am not worthy!"
...Alright. I'm being weird. I'll try to stop. :P
Seriously, this CHAPTER, though! Such. BRILLIANCE. Murder mysteries are really cool, but I've never truly gotten into them--I'm not smart enough to figure out the whodunit, and I know that there are people who can get it right from all of the clues that the author leaves within the narrative. HOWEVER, they are still amazing things to read, if only to remind myself that I'm not as smart as I'd like to be. I have a feeling that this story is one of those types.
Absolutely everything about this chapter was PERFECT. The mysterious killer's perspective at the beginning was super creepy and... well, mysterious. I love the way that you weave in imagery with the thoughts of the characters--both Lily's and the whodunit's. Your writing is so lyrical and poetic-ish. It absolutely sings, and there is never a boring/unnecessary moment or a single word out of place.
Lily kind of reminds me of Abby from NCIS... I don't know why, because Abby isn't a pathologist--she's a forensic specialist, but the comment about the dark humor sort of reminded me of Abby. (I'm silly, I know. NCIS isn't even that great of a show, but I like to watch it when I'm sick...) Except, unlike Abby, Lily has to step out of her role as a pathologist and as a bereaved cousin--she's got to solve the mystery of the death! (I won't say who, just in case I spoil everything...) It's going to be super interesting to watch how she changes over the course of the story! I can't wait to read more! :D
So, sorry if I creeped you out a bit with this mega-weird review, but the overall point of it was to say that I love your writing and this story, and you're probably my favorite person of the day for posting this.
So, update soon if you feel so inclined. :)
Author's Response: Haha, I'm not sure about me being 'crazy talented' but thanks so much for stopping by and reviewing this story as it means so much to me because this review was just brilliant! Hahaha, you're not blabbering away at all because it all makes sense to me, though I'm still a little shocked you think it's so good *causes immense blushing on my front*!
Plus, being weird is fine, I am all the time :P
Hahaha, I never guess the murderer in the murder mystery either because I always miss the most basic of clues so I'm worried I'm going to mess it up here and just do really basic ones, so yeah for not being able to do it together! I'm so glad that you still enjoyed reading it though, and I'm sure you are smart enough as you are a Claw, after all!
I'm really glad that you liked the killer's perspective because first it was sort of going to be narrator less (well, more the room sort of narrating if that makes sense) and just describing the body, but getting into his mind was a lot more fine! I'm so glad you liked the writing style though, it's taken me about a year to finally find it but now I have it's just so much fun to do, so hearing this has put a massive smile on my face!
It's cool, I do the same with NCIS when it shows in the UK. Well, I'm a sucker for a lot of bad TV especially murder shows, so yay for that! Haha, solving the murder makes it a lot more fun because I imagine her to be sort of like Sherlock know by having the ability to solve crimes and figure out how they died. I hope that Lily and the rest of the story matches your expectations though!
HAhaha, you didn't creep me out at all, you just made me over the moon by this awesome review! I'm so glad that you liked it! I hope to update fairly regularly (well, attempt at weekly updates), so just watch and wait and thanks again for a fab review!
