Review swap! :)
I liked seeing Sirius try and re-connect with Regulus, and how uncomfortable he feels doing so. It marks how much they've grown apart and don't know one another, though I liked seeing how Sirius would make an effort to comfort and be there for his brother if the time called for it. Another great detail was what Regulus had in his room - books, dragonhide gloves - it was a great way of piecing together what he might be like as a person.
Ooh, so there might be something going on between Regulus and Barty? That's very interesting. I've seen Regulus be gay in a couple stories and think it fits him really well, though I don't trust Barty at all. He's too crafty and manipulative, and I don't think he'd be necessarily looking out for Regulus' best interests.
Lucius and his creepy cane are quite funny here. I think you wrote him really well - how he tries to exert power and be intimidating but doesn't always succeed, how he tries to threaten Barty into... something. Respecting him? I'm not sure if there is something darker going on between them.
Was Walburga about to make some reading suggestions to Barty? I'm not sure what was going on, but she does intrigue me a lot. The detail about Barty's tongue twitch was a great addition as well.
Poor Sirius! I feel so awkward for him, how he goes around trying to talk to various family members and they keep shutting him out. It was nice to see Narcissa open up a little to him, though.
The idea of hearing how Bellatrix and Lucius have been killing people is very chilling, and I thought Narcissa's reaction to hearing that about her sister and her husband was very powerful. It was interesting how Lucius said it was "strange," and how Sirius was wondering about who they had killed, but felt wrong even thinking about it. That really highlights the differences in the family.
The whole story has that really tense and exciting feel of a murder mystery. I like the shifts between characters in third person, and how everyone is very cautious and stationary and frightened, but only admitting it to certain people.
I'm looking forward to finding out what happens next and what in Merlin's name is going on! I still think the house elves did it, though perhaps they had some wizard intervention and help. :P Well done, this was a fantastic chapter! :)
Author's Response: Hey there - thanks so much for the review swap! I really enjoyed it! :)
I'm so glad you like the two of them! I really enjoy writing them... their relationship is fractured, but not yet completely broken, if that makes sense. They don't get along that well and find it difficult to find things to talk about, but they do still care about each other. It was a bit odd writing Regulus' room, since I haven't actually written Sirius' yet, I don't think, haha. But I'm glad you liked it!
Maaaybe, maybe not :P I do ship them as a pairing, though, just so you know! I don't know, I just don't like OCs much at all, so it makes sense to me :P And yeah, I think it fits Regulus fairly well. Can't really say anything about it, though - don't want to give anything away! ;)
I did like writing that scene with Lucius and Barty! Lucius is so pretentious, and Barty just kinda destroys that, with his bluntness and persistence, haha. There is definitely a point to the scene, though it's not necessarily obvious at first. In fact, it's definitely not! ;)
Haha, yeah. I don't know quite where that came from when I wrote it! But it seemed alright, so I left it in.
Yeah, Sirius has it rough. I mean, he hasn't exactly helped himself before now, but it's not wholly his own fault. Some of them are definitely deliberately shutting him out - Regulus, for example - but yeah, Narcissa's not so bad ;)
I was a bit unsure about including that bit, since I had to make sure it didn't give too much away as per canon, as to what Sirius knows about Death Eaters, haha, but I did like it, so I'm happy you liked it! You're absolutely right about it highlighting the difference in them all, though! It really does say a lot about them.
Gah, I'm really glad you're enjoying it and I really, really enjoyed this swap! Thank you so so much for the lovely review! :)
