Hey Laura here with your review!
In regards to your concern about whether the plot was moving or not, I thought it certainly was here! It was such a great chapter with so much drama involving a lot of characters it was definitely one of the more faster paced ones of the story which was a good thing as the variety does make it better. I liked how despite the fast pace you managed to slip in little things such as the women hissing when Sirius bashed into them and the emphasis on the window sash. All of those little things mixed with the plot created a great picture for me.
One thing I really liked in this chapter was seeing how all of the family ties worked with one another. There was Sirius’ distress over what the letter could mean for Regulus but the members of the Black family who weren’t so close to him not really caring. That was a really poignant moment in showing how close Sirius was to Regulus. Then this was followed up by another moment from Orion who wanted to look at the letter and see if his son was ok and that was really sweet to see that they cared for one another.
This line confused me a little ‘he can see always the way to the little church in the muggle village not-so-nearby from here’ as I assumed that they were in Grimmauld Place in London so there wouldn’t have been a village. Then again, it’s been so long since I read the earlier chapters I may have forgotten they were in a different place.
The ending section was so powerful! There was the arguing between Regulus and Sirius, and it really did take away my previous hopes of them having a good relationship with one another. The way you’ve written the complexity of it though is really fascinating! Then with Narcissa falling down the stairs due to Sirius was a great twist! I have a feeling a lot of the blame may now fall upon him.
Great chapter, Laura!
Author's Response: Hey Kiana! Thanks so much for stopping by again - glad to see you aren't sick of this by now! ;)
Gah, I'm horrible at plot! I tried to make it a bit faster here, since I know I'm really slow, haha, so I'm glad you liked it! All the details... I love repetition, I have to say (in case you hadn't noticed, lol!) so I'm happy you liked them all - it was so much fun adding in the portraits. I'd kinda forgotten a little bit about them, and just had to include them again, since they're such fun! :)
I love writing the family as a group! It's so interesting working out how people would get on, who would annoy who the most and things... Sirius really does care about Regulus, he just doesn't like to admit it, I think. I kinda wanted to show that family isn't just about whether or not you get on well, it's something beyond that, and who better to do it with than Sirius and Regulus? ;) Orion isn't all that bad, haha, at least not in my mind. There'll be more of him, and his relationships with Sirius and Regulus, later on, so I'm glad you like how it's going along! :)
Ooh, thanks for pointing that out! Yeah, it's not meant to be set at Grimmauld Place. I think it's a little too small for this kind of gathering... I'll definitely go back and see if it comes through that it's not there - it might well just be me!
I'm glad you liked it! I always knew how this chapter was going to end, but it turned out to be quite difficult to write, particularly the argument! Hang in there for Regulus and Sirius - things might change yet! ;) They really do have a really complex relationship - I always thought there was more to it than we saw in the books - so I really like developing it, so it makes me so happy to see you like it! :)
Due to Sirius? You sure on that? :P Nah, but yeah he's going to get blamed... can you blame them, really? Poor Siri... :)
Thank you so much for the wonderful review! I really loved receiving it - your comments are always so helpful and so lovely!
