Mystery, mystery, mystery!! Hello! I am here from the forums with your review, so here we go!
Alright, I know you have a LOT of reviews on the prologue, but I decided to start reviewing here because, well, it's good to begin at the beginning! And what a beginning it is!
Your explanation of your idea at the top of the page really helps me out. Sometimes, I see things that are clumsily juxtaposed with canon events, and I think, "Well, how are you going to explain THAT?!" In that note, you explained away any future strangeness that readers might encounter, and for that, I am grateful. I am not a strict follower of canon, but I do appreciate it when the author makes an effort to pull some canon information into his/her story. However, in many cases, I am willing to put canon aside and let the story be what it wants to be. In this case, having not read any further, I believe that I will be 100% a-okay with whatever the story becomes.
Here's the truth: Your writing is EXTREMELY good. I loved the opening scene--stories that open with rain are my especial favorites because I love rain and everything that it could possibly foreshadow. The girl is of rather unknown origin--she is an enigma, like all really memorable and totally awesome characters are. The old woman--perfect. She is a witch, and the girl seems to recognize this fact, but that raises some questions.
Who is the woman? Who is the girl? How does the girl know about magic? How old is she? Is she a Muggle or a witch? All of these, I am sure, can be found in later chapters. I shall have to read on to find out!
You have done a wonderful job with this first chapter, and I truly look forward to seeing what comes next! Feel free to re-request for a review very soon! :)
Author's Response: Hello! Thanks so much for the wonderful review! And I'm so glad you liked the mystery!
And I do have a lot of reviews on the prologue, but I'm starting to think people must not like the story as well as they said they did at the beginning because I just put the 6th chapter up and it only has 4 reviews. :( Not sure what I've suddenly started doing wrong. *shrugs*
Glad you started at the beginning though. It makes a lot more sense that way.
I WAS worried about people being like "wait a minute, that's not right!" and that's why I put up the author's note. I'll admit I'm not too bothered with sticking to canon, especially the "canon" that has been revealed after the books finished, but I do like to at least give readers a heads up about it.
And now I'm blushing a lot. Thank you. So very much. Like I mentioned before, I am starting to doubt not only my writing but this story, given the 35 reviews I have on the prologue and only 4 reviews I have on the last chapter. Makes me wonder if something has gone wrong, or if it's just not interesting enough and people don't want to come back.
Hehehehe, glad you liked the rain. The girl in my story actually likes the rain as well, though it probably doesn't seem that way right now given her circumstances. And I'm so happy you think she is like other memorable and awesome characters! That totally just made my day! Thank you!
Ah, questions! I love it when readers finish my chapters and have questions. The good kind, not the I'm totally lost kind. And I promise to answer all those questions you have in coming chapters, so if you want to keep reading, you can find out!
Thank you so much for an awesome review! I can't wait to see what you think of things later on, and to know if I'm dropping the ball on this story and that's why no on is still reading.
