Hi there, I'm here with your requested review!

First off -- DUDE, I love that banner. Gorgeous!

I loved this. Seriously. I sometimes have trouble really connecting with Dumbledore/Grindlewald stories because the characters feel so distant and complex, but the emotion in this really struck me and I loved your fascinating parallel style. I definitely think the story's themes could apply to both Dumbledore and Grindlewald, which was perhaps part of their downfall.

I think you've taken a reasonably common theme - an old man lamenting the end of his days and looking back on a life half wasted - and really imbibed it with some gorgeous imagery and metaphors that put a really refreshing twist on it. The way you anthropomorphized the pen and paper, the way death pulled like a force at him (them) - I could pick a few quotes, but I think I'd have to quote the entire piece. I loved it all. I also love the mirror effect in the letters; I get the distinct sense that Gellert is hoping to reopen an old door just as Albus is working to seal it closed once and for all. It's heartbreaking, relateable, and beautiful.

I don't really know what else to say about this without gushing, so I'm going to stop. But this is definitely one of the best Gellert/Albus pieces I've ever read, and I shall be recommending it to others. Very nice work!

Oh, and I hope this review was helpful :)

Author's Response: Thanks for the amazing review! You gave some pretty awesome feedback, so I'll respond to that individually:

First of all I KNOW THIS BANNER OH MY GOODNESS. Eponine. is flawless.

Second: wow- you saw exactly what I was hoping to convey! I just had a flash of inspiration when I wrote this, that Dumbledore and Grindlewald are almost mirror images of each other: the faults of one are the strengths of the other, and they took everything they had in common in completely opposite directions, and it's how far they went that made them fail.

Thank you so much for your compliments (squee!) I'm so glad you liked my style.

I never thought of it in exactly those terms, that Albus is closing a door that Gellert is trying to open, but it's exactly that. What a great way to put it!

Again, thank you so much, I really appreciate your insight and I'm so glad you enjoyed it :D
