Review:loveinidleness says:
Have you ever read Tina Fey's Bossypants? If you haven't - you should.

The strongest element of your story is, without a doubt, your humour. From the lambs to the finnish fiasco you are genuinely funny. Creating jokes that come across as easy and natural is, unbelievably difficult and you do it so well. I was laughing out loud. It makes you story so, so readable.

That said it doesn't diminish the tragedy in your story, in fact it makes it sadder as you help your readers instantly relate to your characters. I did wonder if you could change from the magical flu. That part sounded rather muggle and any other epidemic would have kept your readers in the world you had so vividly created.

The premise is exceptional. What I love is that you don't labour the point. So often writers really force important plot points and point to them so emphatically it becomes dull. You don't do that which I love. You allow the readers to follow along, jump to their own conclusion and I love that, I want to write fanfic about your fanfic already!

I love the way you introduce the whole 'seeing dead people thing,' The temptation would be to make it so melodramatic and, personally, I would find that annoying. By showing it through the eyes of a child, it was presented simplistically which allowed what could be a melodramatic situation to be honest and realistic. This helped the readers engage with and accept the story.

I'm really struggling to come up with CC for your story, I'm going to read on in the hopes of offering you some but I think you're a funny and fresh author. I look forward to your future work as your writing is so engaging.

Author's Response: No, I haven't read it, although I'm a HUGE fan of 30 Rock, so I guess that's where Ellie's dorkiness is sort of inspired from!

Ah! Thank you so much! Sometimes I wonder if the jokes are trying too hard, and then sometimes I wonder if they're even funny. This is very reassuring to hear - I'm on the right track!

I don't usually write about deep things, but I'm jumping in the deep end with this story. There's lots of tragedy here, but I don't think it's any more or less than what's found in real life, and I hope that sense of reality will help to ground the story.

I know what you mean! And this means a lot! I wasn't sure if I was being too wishy washy about the plot, though. There's very little idea so far as to what is going to happen, and I wasn't sure if that was a turn off for some people.

That's another thing I really wanted to do - not make the entire story about seeing dead people. Yes, it's a big part of Ellie's life, but it's not the only part, either. I'm glad that came through. Of course, her relationship with her ability is explored further on.

Thank you so much for this wonderful review! It means a lot!
