Wouldn't it be nice if I didn't have a busy life? *sighs*
Hmm, looks like Professor Cavendish isn't effective at being a substitute. I wonder if they couldn't find another sub because of Blackburn being a werewolf.
I've never thought of ancient runes that way before. It's a pity Harry never took the subject. We know so little about it. I personally find it very interesting.
Now I really want to be hired as Cavendish's worker and help her or something. I like anything really old. And it looks like she's in a mystery. Oh, I really hope these runes become part of the plot! I cannot think of any recent fanfiction I have read that involves Ancient Runes as part of the plot. Please, please, please?
Rose is such a nice girl, especially to Professor Blackburn. *sighs happily* It must be really weird for Blackburn though, since I doubt she has ever discussed her symptoms with one of her students before.
Wait, did Rose just lie to Fairfax for Professor Blackburn? WOW.
Speaking of Fairfax, ever since Fairfax was introduced I've noticed that name all over the place. It's weird.
Fairfax has a point. What is the point of a hair-raising potion? It reminds me of my teachers. They'll be like, "Okay, I have to teach you blah blah, but I really don't like it and I think it is pointless. So, just learn it, pass the test, and then you can forget about it. Deal?"
Wizards are not so different than muggles.
Author's Response: *laughs* These two chapters went up very closely together, because the queue was so short yesterday and was much longer when this one went up, so they were actually posted about 10 days apart, but were validated in much shorter time.
And yeah, Cavendish isn't very effective when it comes to anything but his own subject. *laughs* I enjoyed writing him as a character.
No, I'm afraid the Ancient Runes don't form an important part of this story. They are really just to show how fascinated Cavendish is by them. But I interested myself too, so you'd never know, they might become significant later in the series, if I can think of a way to fit them in. Certainly, Rose is going to take Ancient Runes in 3rd year, so there should be more about the class further on.
And yeah, that probably is weird for Professor Blackburn, especially since she really doesn't much like talking about anything to do with being a werewolf. She sort of avoids referring to it directly.
Rose didn't exactly LIE, I don't think. She really was getting her quill and Albus had already told him she was doing that, so there wasn't much reason to add any more unless he asked why it took her so long.
*laughs* Yeah, that potion does seem rather pointless and Fairfax is big on real life applications. He thinks they should be learning stuff that'll actually use and know WHY they are used.
We have exams here that are sort of like the O.W.L.S. and N.E.W.T.S., the Junior Cert. and the Leaving Cert, although they're not REALLY alike, as the O.W.L.S. and N.E.W.T.S. are obviously based on the British G.C.S.E.S. and A-levels, but we do the Junior Cert. around the age of 15 and the Leaving around 17/18. The Junior is way less important than the O.W.L.S. appear to be though and we do more subjects for the Leaving. But yeah, there's stuff on the course you just have to learn because it might come up in the exams and some of it is pretty stupid, like learning stuff about the history of the Irish language IN IRISH. I mean, it's interesting in a way, where the placenames of the country came from and all, but it'd be more to the point to learn Irish people would actually use in conversation. The Irish language course is WEIRD anyway, because it's the same course for native speakers in the West as it is for those of us for whom it's a second language. So they get marks just for speaking their own language and answering questions on what people are saying in it on a tape.
