Hi! :) Wow, this is such an incredible beginning to a story, and I can't believe I never discovered it before. First of all I love the use of second person, which is so rare in writing in general, but here it really works. I already feel personally connected to Molly, and curious about what exactly is going on in her head. The contradictions between "you" and "her" are even stronger because of the use of second person, I think, and I'm very curious to find out who exactly the "her" is.
The possession and connection with the book reminds me a lot of Ginny being possessed by Riddle's diary, and is such a unique spin on this canon fact. I wonder, is the book a Horcrux made by this Hogwarts student of the past, or something else entirely? The way you set up the character of "her" is so mysterious, and she sounds both dangerous and sympathetic to me. The juxtaposition of having different selves within Molly is very well conveyed and makes me want to learn more about Molly, both her old and new selves, and what has happened to create her this way.
Something really lovely about this chapter is your writing style, what with the long, thorough sentences which flow and rock the reader through the chapter. It reads much like an older romance book, which of course fits with the theme of Molly's reading choices. The chapter raises so many questions, and I'm so curious to find out what kind of story this is going to turn into and to learn more about Molly and this illness or curse which she seems to bear.
I'm going to read on now! :)
Author's Response: Hey there! Thanks so much for stopping by! :)
Thank you so much - I'm so glad you like it! :) Second person was kinda a choice based on easiness of writing - this seemed to want second person - but I'd never written it before so it was a bit of a challenge! So glad you think it seems to work! :)
Yeah, it is very similar - partly because I was inspired by it for this. It's such a creepy, subtle sort of thing, the idea of being essentially possessed, almost, by a book and effected by something that much, so I wanted to kinda reflect that in this. It's not quite a Horcrux, though it is something a little along those lines, but not quite so sinister, haha. I'm so glad you like Molly - she's a character I really like writing, because she's so familiar too me :)
Gah, thank you so much! I know I write a lot of description, so the fact that you like it is really, really nice to hear! :)
Thank you so much for the wonderful review! :)
