Review:Roots in Water says:
Hello Amanda! It's been a few months since I've had the time to leave a review but the House Cup has really kick-started my return to HPFF.

I enjoyed reading this one-shot. Not only is Luna always an amusing character to read, but dragons (and the dragon sanctuary) are interesting as well. And you managed to combine both wonderfully here!

I think that you came up with a great reason for Luna to be at the dragon sanctuary. After all, I don't think that it would be the sort of place she'd typically seek as a job, but as a work placement on her path to becoming a carnivorous plant studier it makes perfect sense.

Seeing Charlie Weasley in his element was also a great pleasure. It's nice to see just how much he enjoys his job - it's too bad more people don't have that same passion for their work (even if he is just a fictional character).

This was also very interesting because it was Luna's first meeting with Rolf. I definitely think that it's a plausible way for them to meet, especially since I've always assumed that they're interested in the same sorts of creatures/careers. I also liked how you introduced the possibility of their future relationship. Luna's reaction to his smile (and the feelings of contentment that follow the slightly sick feeling) coupled with Rolf's smile after she declared dragons to be beautiful definitely shows their potential without hitting readers over the head with it.

I also really liked the glimpse you've given us of post-secondary education in the Wizarding world - it sounds remarkably similar to post-secondary education in the Muggle world. :)

All in all, I enjoyed reading this one-shot and I can definitely see its potential as a short-story. Although your conclusion was great, the one-shot definitely did a great job of getting across the idea of a new beginning - so much so that I'm really interested to see where their story goes from there. Great work! :D

Author's Response: Hey, happy to hear from you again! (By the way, hope we get to continue our swap soon! I'd love to get back to Wilted Flower!)

I didn't really look around before writing this, but I'd be surprised if this is the first time someone's combined Luna/Rolf and dragons, or at least Charlie. They just seem to go together really well and it was fun to work on this. What better reason to explore new characters and adventurous new plot lines than the House Cup?

I didn't intend for this to be a head-over-heels love story, just a way for Luna and Rolf to get to know one another while working toward their respective careers, like you said. I'm happy that it came across as plausible to you. It was fun trying to imagine what post-grad education would look like for wizards and witches, and I won't deny that it was inspired in part by my current experience as a graduate student :)

I'm leaning towards continuing this, so it'll be interesting to see where the story goes from here. Thanks for your lovely review, Claire!
