The only excuse I have for not getting here earlier is that graphic making is far too addictive for its own good, and I have only managed to escape from it now!
I really liked learning more about Bethís family and how the funeral went in this chapter because apart from her parents we really donít know all that much about them. Great-aunt Elspeth sounded like a character! It was nice to see that one relative was willing to talk to Beth still as that doesnít happen often!
You set up the eerie air in the Order meeting really well. I think it was because there was a certain level of ambiguity when describing them as you didnít use any names and it added a sense of isolation to the story and I was sitting here nervously waiting to see the outcome of this and whether it would be just an injury or a death.
Then when Remus told Beth that Benjy had died it was horrible. I think it was more because of Jamesí reaction because in the last chapter it was all so sweet and cute with Harryís birthday and then for this to happen to him. I hope that James does get one more happy time before he dies otherwise that would be horrible for him.
Gah Mad-Eye! Iím really disliking him at the minute! I can see why he made Beth do paper work but sheís done it for so many chapters now itís just cruel to make her carry on. When Sirius and Beth went on missions together in In the Red it was always so cool as they made a great double act and Iíve missed that since theyíve been spilt up. I hope theyíre back together again soon!
I have issues with Beth and this line ĎTo her complete horror, he paused briefly.í It should not be horror but joy that Snapeís beginning to remember you again and that heís maybe getting his memories back! Then the next scene when Snapeís meant to be talking to Moody but heís just thinking of Beth was wonderful, I love these signs that Snape may be beginning to remember, but I have a feeling that they may be crushed any time now.
I adored this line ĎAnd number four, please do not even try and pretend that what was going on between the two of you was only friendship.í It was just so Sirius and so true. Iím kind of mixed whether Beth should be Ďfriendsí with Snape again or not. I mean, it would be really cool and itís what Iíve been wishing for, for ages, but then I have a bad feeling about it too.
Another awesome chapter, Rachel!
Author's Response: Oh, no -- you can have all the excuses in the world for not getting here sooner! You're of course not expected to review this story at all, which I've told you many times, and the fact you do at all (no matter when you do it!) means loads. ♥
I think the more I got into writing this story, the more I got into writing Beth as a person, and that's where I started exploring more of her family. :) I don't think she had a necessarily bad home life, but growing up with family like her parents and her aunt and great-aunt, it's sort of not hard to see why she'd prefer male company, which was why I made a lot of the family members of hers we see to be female.
This was one of the more depressing Order meetings, both because of Benjy Fenwick and because Moody was a complete scumbag -- but I did mean to make it eerie and a bit mysterious, so I'm glad that translated well! It is getting into darker days where the war is concerned, and desperate times are soon to call for desperate measures. Moody totally deserves all your dislike; I dislike him here, too! But I liked writing him because of that, mostly because I was really engaged in making him as spiteful as possible. :P Sirius and Beth are the best mission team ever -- how can he not see that?!
I can't say for sure what Snape's thoughts of Beth are at this moment, mostly because he doesn't know himself. But I promise (and I feel I've made this promise over and over again), all will most definitely be revealed by the book's end! Wow, am I really already 17 chapters in? Where does time even go anymore.
Oh, Sirius. ♥ I loved that little list of his, too, so thank you for commenting on it! I just really miss Beth/Snape together, and it's making me sad even remembering it now. :P
Thank you for another wonderful review, Kiana! I know I sound like a broken record. It's hard to come up with different ways of telling you how much these reviews truly do mean to me, especially on this story of all stories. Just know that I DO appreciate them, more than the varied English language allows me to say! ♥
