Yay first review again! (Well hopefully, unless someone posts while I’m reading this!)
I liked how you built up the sense of darkness, with the fact that there were more and more chairs becoming available. It was a subtle thing, and I rather liked it, as it stuck in your mind more, than you directly coming out, and listing all of those who have been killed. I think the fact that you left it nameless, represented how anonymous war is, and it was just a really powerful thing to do.
I liked the brief mention towards Harry being difficult to put to bed. It contrasted nicely with the dark mood that you just left us with, so it made me happier. Also any mentions towards baby Harry, are great, as I can imagine that he was a really cute baby!
I liked how you included how Mad-Eye lost part of his nose, it was nice to put it into context, and even though we already knew who did it, it was good to be reminded of it, as there are so many facts in Harry Potter, I have a tendency to forget some!
I felt so bad for Beth, she’s been through so much already, with Snape leaving her, and then last mission as it failed, and now she’s been taken away her mission, it feels as if life just keeps on getting worse and worse, I’m hoping that something better will come along, but the fact that James and Lily’s deaths keep on creeping closer and closer, it doesn’t look like it.
James really is awesome! He’s always there for Beth, and he just seems to always know what to say, to make her feel better. I think he’s probably one of the few people who can understand what she’s going through, as he said himself, he wouldn’t know how to cope if all Lily’s memories of him were wiped. I loved his advice for what to do if someone stared Beth though, it was great, and I may even use it myself, if that ever happens to me!
I think I was stunned as everyone else to see Snape here. Why do you keep on doing this to Beth, Rachel? She’s been through so much, and then Snape has to keep on appearing everywhere! The only thing I can hope that will come from this is, is that each time Snape sees Beth, it jolts his memory a little more.
I have to agree with Remus here, as it was just so shocking, Snape staring at Beth, as I guess Beth was right, it represented hope. And I do hope that her feeling hope, isn’t just wishful thinking, but something which will later materialise!
Another awesome chapter Rachel, and I can’t wait to read the next :D
Author's Response: I really appreciate reviewers like you, who catch the small things -- like the growing emptiness of chairs. This sounds a bit strange, but sometimes it's easy to forget that I'm writing these stories not just for me, but so other people can read them, and when they pick up on things like that I'm always super impressed!
I ADORE writing baby Harry, and definitely squeeze him in wherever possible. :P And I'm happy you liked that bit about Mad-Eye, too! There are so many canon things to include in this plot line, I tell you. It's almost making me tired now just thinking about it! But then again, I wouldn't have it any other way, so I don't mind. :)
I feel really bad for Beth at this point in the story, too. :( She's already been through a lot, much more than any one person should, and then she's getting pulled off mission work for something that isn't really her fault -- well, I suppose it's her fault she had strong ties to Severus, but that still doesn't make it fair! But James is always there to pick her up when she's down, and she is grateful for that. I love writing their brother/sister relationship. ♥
I've got to bring Snape into this story somehow! :P Unfortunately for Beth, that sort of means that unless it's from his point of view... it's a bit painful. This story really isn't very happy, I'm realizing now. But I promise you that it does get better! And it does set up events to come, too. The word this story should revolve around is "hope." :3 I guess I'm banking a lot on my readers having a bunch of it!
Thank you so much for reviewing!! ♥ I'm looking forward to hearing your opinion on tomorrow's chapter -- and I PROMISE I'm still working on your ITR reviews! :P
