I see there were several reasons to "lose" the Marauders Map. The conversation with Lowsley was odd at the end. Interesting chapter!

Author's Response: Haha, yeah the main reason James "lost" it was for Sirius, but it saved his butt too. Fortunately, James still has it, but he can only use it when no one is around, because if Fred finds out James has it he'll know about Sirius and if Sirius finds out James has it, he'll know James knew his real identity all along. So basically, James had to take one for the team.
Lowsley is suppose to be a little odd so I suppose that's good for now. :)
