|Review:||Ravenclaw Secret Santa says:|
Hmm, that is an interesting cliffhanger! Severus knows what, exactly? I actually hope he's figured something different out, not what Beth fears. It seems a bit soon in the story for that to happen, especially after Severus made a big deal about watching and lurking and all that. At best, he's got an educated guess, and it would just be a stab in the dark. That's my theory, anyway.
Also, I like how this chapter is chock full of tension and drama. Things (that is, people and their emotions) are being pulled every which way. There's the usual shenanigans between Gryffindors and Slytherins in general. Then there is James and his new hopes with Lily. Plus Severus's jealousy over that situation. James and possibly the others being suspicious of Beth and why Severus was speaking to her, and clearly you're setting up the classic "her friends are going to be so angry when they find out" situation. The incident with the dog comment. Everything is getting so tangled up, but in realistic ways!
One thing that struck me was how paranoid the Marauders + Beth are about the whole Remus-is-a-werewolf situation. Obviously, they have reason to be, especially with Severus sniffing about (no pun intended). However, when you're the one with the secret, everything seems suspect. Other people usually don't notice nearly as much as you fear they do (unless they are Sherlock Holmes, I guess).
I do find it a bit interesting that Severus has chosen to speak to Beth not once, but twice. Obviously, the story probably couldn't move along without that, and how would they ever get together if they never spoke? Still, I guess he's identified her as a weak link, or maybe noticed that she doesn't tease him as much as her friends do? Whatever the case, I'd find it a bit suspicious if I was one of her friends too.
Author's Response: That's one of my favorite cliffhangers of this story. ;) And though I know that, by now, you've gone onto the next chapter... I shan't tell you all the same! (Especially since, well, you know!) I think your fears can be put to rest now, at any rate.
One of the things about this story that you'll come to learn is that it's absolutely stuffed with emotions, things unsaid, and misunderstandings. STUFFED with them, and that really goes for the second and third books, too! But this chapter really is quite full of new information, isn't it? Life is a bit tangled!
I absolutely hate having secrets for exactly the reasons you mentioned. For some reason, I'm always very conscious of it, and I always think that someone else can tell I've got a secret, too. And I realistically know that they don't, but I can't help but being paranoid all the same! And that's where bits and pieces of my real life bleed over into my writing again, I'm afraid...
Your theory about his picking Beth out as a "weak link" is correct! She's never teased him like the boys have, and there are times when, like Remus, she's downright not condoned it. And he's astute enough to have picked up on this, and thinks she's his best bet for figuring out what's going on.
Thanks so much (once again!) for all of your lovely reviews! :3 It honestly means so much to me that you took the time to swing by this story!
