That was a good chapter! The whole part with Draco was very suspenseful. Draco was awfully brave here...good for him! We've "talked" a lot about it, but I love how you write him in canon -- Draco's not a good guy, but he's not exactly evil either. I thought this was very appropriate:

"He didn’t want to think about it. He might have hated Potter, might have done everything in his power to beat him in every scholastic aspect, but it was still weird to think of someone so young – someone who, in essence, he had grown up with – dead."

I also loved the descriptions of the ruined Hogwarts.

I'm kind of worried/confused about the use of the Polyjuice. Since the Death Eaters know they made Lavender Polyjuice from poor dead Lavender, if they see Hermione, will they think she is a Death Eater going out disguised on a mission? Does this mean Dean Thomas is dead, too? (Excuse me, if that's something I forgot...I'm beginning to think it is.)

Author's Response: I'm so happy to hear you enjoyed it! I really enjoyed writing this chapter, and it came very quickly -- the length surprised me, too, as these chapters normally turn out to be a bit shorter than Sneth chapters.

Writing Draco has actually been one of my favorite parts of writing this story, which is something I didn't really anticipate in a Ron/Hermione. But in getting reviews from various people and hearing what they have to say about him, I did come to realize... he's not really written realistically very much in fic. And that was huge to me, portraying him in a light very similar to the way J.K. Rowling did.

The Death Eaters would have made Polyjuice from all the dead; they wouldn't have all known specifically who was dead, if that makes sense. They would, of course, have recognized Hermione, but it's a safe gamble that they wouldn't have recognized Lavender as a prisoner, simply because she wasn't important; that's the gamble the Shell Cottage group is taking. And yes, this does mean Dean is dead. It was likely, in previous chapters, but nothing was revealed as being certain until the end of this one.
