She wouldn’t need help if she’d just been with me

^^ I can assure you that, that nearly killed me!

Oh poor Sirius. He is having a little bit of a meltdown isn't he?

Although I'm glad James made him see a little bit more clearly. As much as I would love him and Beth to end up together, it just isn't going to happen. You're right, he was deluding himself in thinking they should be together. He see's Lily and James and is just jealous of what they've got.

For a moment there I thought you were going to make something happen between him and Rosmerta! Now that's an idea for a one-shot!! Haha! But no, you don't write 'play boy' Sirius.

Maybe you could create me as a character and he could fall in love with me?? *hint hint*

I'm glad you gave him a little more conviction at the end. He seems to realise he's not doing anyone any favours by moping around. He's going to be a Godfather and he needs to start acting like one. Gosh hearing Harry being mentioned is weird.

Oh I got so nostalgic reading that part! I just want them all to be back there! I'm currently reading the American Versions of the books as well so I'm revisiting Hogwarts myself!

Author's Response: Sirius is absolutely having a bit of a meltdown! This is sort of his meltdown chapter, really. I do feel badly for him -- the entire time, he's been building false notions in his head, something that wasn't really there, and it's all just kind of crumbled to pieces now. He wants someone in his life to replace James, and he saw Beth (wrongly) as that person. Poor bloke. That's what James is for, though!

I've actually heard of a Sirius/Rosmerta pairing before, and a Remus/Rosmerta, come to think of it. Actually, truth be told, I VERY nearly had him have something with Sarah Wright! :D But I couldn't envision his character doing something like that, you know? Playboy Sirius is very much not my thing. (One Callie insertion, coming up!)

I very, very sorely miss writing about Hogwarts as a focal setting! First this book, then Break Out, and now Breaking Even, too. I'm already sort of turning over an idea in my head for my next big long-term fic project, but it's not in Hogwarts, either. I do miss it!

Thank you so much, as always, for reviewing for me -- you really are fantastic! ♥
