AHH.HHH.HHH.HHH A KISS ON THE CHEEK, A FLUFFY MOMENT IN A TIME WHEN THERE IS DEBRIS EVERYWHERE AND PEOPLE ARE DUELING FOR THEIR LIVES. I CANNOT.
Only Beth and Severus would run off in the middle of a mission to go talk. Sirius and Wilkes and Malfoy and everybody are back there trying to destroy each other with laser beams and Severus and Beth flee to an alley to avoid each other's questions. It was intense and insane and GAHH I LOVED IT. ♥ From the beginning of this chapter when you had the POV's switching around I was like NOOO, PLEASE DON'T LET THEM RUN INTO EACH OTHER. I DON'T WANT THEM TO SEE EACH OTHER LIKE THAT. But now they have, and it's kind of a breath of relief because they survived seeing each other from the view as an enemy, fighting on polar sides, and they came out of it with fluffy feels. Beth keeps destroying me by doing things I do not expect. I sit here trying to keep up with her - because that's what it feels like - and she's always two steps ahead and waiting with a curveball. Just when I think, "That's it. That's the breaking point. There's no way she's going to be able to forgive him for this," she DOES. I almost wanted Sirius to find her and slap some sense into her, but at the same time I was YES! YES! THREE CHEERS FOR THIS DEVELOPMENT!
Look at what you have done to me!
I've already expressed my raptures about Lucius in skype, so will spare you more of that (except he's lovely and horrible and his good hair and cane almost makes up for the Muggle-torturing but not quite and I just cannot hate that man).
Severus! Ermehgerd! By the way, I got the perfect image of young Snape grinning at her from around the alleyway corner and it was so adorable. And Beth dashing away where nosy Sirius will probably dump a bunch of questions on her (and rightly so) AND OMG, BETH, I AM SHUNNING YOU. YOU WERE NOT THERE TO BACK UP SIRIUS. HE COULD HAVE BEEN HURT BY THE AWFUL MALFOY. OR VICE VERSA.
I don't know which feels I want to concentrate on. I FEEL SO CONFUSED. Am I mad at Beth for letting Severus distract her or happy that they had their Sneth moment? CAN I BE BOTH? And naughty Severus, stealing her away. I had some moments earlier in the chapter where my upper lip was kind of curling because of the things he was saying and thinking regarding Muggles, but he redeemed himself when he stopped Lucius from torturing the Muggle. I want to shake sense into him. I want Beth to beat him over the head with the Stick of Goodness and convert him to a Muggle-lover. But simultaneously I love him just the way he is, so perfectly canon and human and at times, nasty.
STOP ELICITING THESE CONFUSING FEELS FROM ME ABOUT CHARACTERS.
Seriously, though, Beth. ♥ There's a reason she's in the running for Best OC. I absolutely love it when she surprises me.
Author's Response: -faints alongside you- I HAVE TOO MUCH EMOTION INVESTED INTO MY OWN CHARACTERS, THIS REALLY ISN'T HEALTHY.
I'm not sure if the fact that Sev and Beth basically ditched a battle to talk speaks to their cowardice, or their unspoken love for each other, or my inability to stay in a battle scene long enough for things to seriously happen before I need to write a big long scene of dialogue. Probably all three. BUT I AM GLAD YOU LIKED IT, ALL THE SAME. ♥ And that, too, is supposed to sort of highlight the differences in their characters over the course of, what... a year and a half, or something like that? Back in seventh year, Beth probably would have been really angry, not giving him cheek-kisses. What even, Beth.
I tried telling so many people about Ascendio-Lucius and his pimp cane and old-age-Lucius and his diva stomp, and literally nobody else even came close to thinking it was funny. (They did laugh at how funny /I/ thought it was, but that's not quite the same thing.) I am chuckling quietly to myself even thinking about it again. :D He's yet another character I write almost entirely for you, so stop creeping into this story so much, please. You're leaving greasy fingerprints everywhere.
BETH CHOSE SEVERUS OVER SIRIUS, THIS HAS NO SIGNIFICANCE AT ALL. You can certainly be both mad and happy at her, though, and in reality, she probably deserves both. :3
Uggh, you are too sweet. ♥ Beth's got 13 votes right now and that's more than I really expected her to get, and I used to have such struggles writing non-flat original characters (let's examine LO, shall we?) and that vote of confidence is so enormous, I don't even know what to say. ♥
THANK YOU, THAT'S WHAT I SHOULD SAY. Your reviews. I'll never, ever be able to tell you how much it means to me to have them. Seriously. So, so glad to have you around!
