Author's Response: Yeah, I open with a cruel gut-punch of Jacob sacrificed on the altar of drama and Tanith's further development. And don't worry - I won't keep T&T on opposite sides of the plot for the ENTIRE STORY, only coming together at the end (which means, of course, they won't come together at ALL, muwahahaha - kidding. OR AM I).
