Hi! I'm here with another review!
This was another dazzling chapter, I can't even tell you how I've enjoyed it! So far, this has to be my favourite chapter!
One of the best things about this chapter is how much more it shows us of Regulus! He's finally in Hogwarts and we can see how he interacts with his mates and his professors, and so far he's wonderful! I never thought much of Regulus Black, but I think I'm starting to really admire him! I loved how he took great care of his behaviour since it really shows how much of a Black he is; you can actually see the pureblood elite in him -an aspect some people disregard sometimes.
Every single conversation you've included in this chapter made us see a bit more of Regulus! I particularly liked the interaction between him and the Slytherins in the common room! It was rather interesting to see his reaction, to see him question his initial thoughts about how calculating Voldemort is and how this information made him 'uncomfortable'. He was practically looking at the future version of himself, so I'm quite sure it would've been intimidating for him.
My favourite part of the chapter, though, was the one in the library. In that scene, the central characters of the story were gathered in the same room and we can finally see the various paths cross, even if very slightly.
I honestly don't know how you manage to write Severus like that! Personally, I find Severus a very challenging character to portray while keeping canon, yet, you manage to make him seem perfect! All the mumbling to himself and the watching from afar; it really is heartbreaking. That desperation I told you about in the previous review, it continues to show and it doesn't get any easier to read about.
The exchange between Severus and Regulus was very interesting as well. I was rather glad to see Regulus not tease Severus about his feelings like others did. This, along with how he felt after the conversation with Rosier and the other two, makes it easy to see your Regulus grow up into the Regulus we read about in the books.
I also enjoyed your Slughorn a lot; in fact, he seemed to be straight out of the book. The way you described his physical appearance and his speech made him feel quite canon.
Somehow, even though there hasn't been many events in the story so far, it's still very interesting. The way you're setting up the characters and the beginning of the year builds up the tension in the story and makes us wonder what all of this is going to lead to further on. How will all of these things -the Slug Club, Lily's study group, etc- be significant in the future?
Again, wonderful, wonderful work! This story has been entertaining me for the past few days and I can't wait to see more of it! I hope I've addressed your concerns well enough and that I wasn't gushing too much!
Author's Response: Hey Manno! Thanks for coming by again!
Wow, that's great! People seem to favor Regulus, so I've gotten several reviewers who have told me that they look forward to seeing chapters written in his perspective. Be sure and let me know if you see any way that I should be helping Lily along to keep up with him entertainment-wise, won't you? :)
I did try to use the events in this chapter to let people see little snippets of Regulus's personality, so it's wonderful that you picked up on that. I'm glad that you felt like his reaction to the Death Eater killing was realistic. I'm really trying to make it seem like joining up with them won't be an easy choice.
You're right, the library is where a lot of the main characters cross here! I had a lot of fun writing that scene, trying to play up Severus's creepy factor and working on somehow making it appealing, or at least interesting. He's my favorite character in the series by far, so I sort of want to do a little dance every time anyone says that I've written him well.
You know what? -dances-
...Okay, back to my response! Yep, I love Slughorn - he's one of my main sources of comic relief here, just like he was in HBP for me, as well. I feel like I only know him so well, so I'm happy that he seemed to fit canon. Hopefully he provides a little bit of relief from the tension building - and it sure is!
I don't believe in too much gushing, and you certainly addressed my concerns very well, so thank you! I'll be back to re-request very soon!
Thanks again for this lovely review! :)
