And it just got even better :D

I love the language you're using in this. It makes it all seem so historically accurate. I always find it strange, not even in just Founders fics but in any fics set before the Hogwarts era, when charcacters use modern language, so it's great to see that this is more historically accurate. I also like the inheritance age of 25-not only because you're right in saying wizards outlive Muggles, but also because it works for this story. It puts Venn (love the name, by the way) at a more mature age, which I think will suit him better in the later events of the story.

My favorite character is actually currently Edeline, simply because of the way you've written her. She really does seem like a mother from this age, focused on finding a wife for her son. Usually, I'm not too concerned about the meaning of names, but hers just fits her perfectly. She is the definition of nobility.

And then we see Salazar. It's been much too long since I've read DH, so I can't remember if him being Venn's uncle in canon or not-is it? Either way, it works really well here. If he was his father, he would be too close to Venn and too vested in his interests, but as an uncle, he can help without dictating. I'm interested to see how his character develops, especially if and when you bring the other Founders into this.

This is shaping up really well. I think it might actually have to go on my favorites list, because I really want to keep reading!

Author's Response: Hi again!

The language was definitely a challenge. I felt like it would be best to err on the side of formality and not make them sound too casual or modern, but I was afraid that the stiffness of the dialogue would be a turn-off to readers. However, it's good to hear that you like it! I've also gotten lots of positive feedback about the age I selected, which is lovely -- again, it was a question of possibly trading historical accuracy for not having to make them still be Hogwarts students and talking about marriage.

Everyone likes Edeline! I do think she's sweet, and I enjoy writing her, because I think she adds a touch of femininity and grace to Venn's side of the story. I did try to make her very maternal, but still quite proper and very classy. It's good to hear that her name fits her well.

I don't think it's canon, no, but I feel like it would be a possibility. I was drawing primarily off of what we know about pureblood families (all of them are tangled up in one way or another) and the fact that the Slytherin ghost would probably be important to Salazar and his legacy to a certain degree. Salazar is definitely important in this story, and I'm planning to include his departure from the other Founders as the plot goes on, so we'll have to see how that affects the young lovers.

So glad you're still engaged with it! Thanks!

-Amanda
