This was a sensational first chapter, Susan. The whole style is very Victorian and elegant, very much like Jane Austen's prose. And it flows and reads as well as the words sound together, like a harp playing or some kind of classical music. ;)

Also, I love that you chose Rose to represent Elizabeth Bennet in this; for me, she best exemplifies the role that Elizabeth plays in Pride and Prejudice. Rose seems far more independent than her cousins are, as well as intelligent since her mother was wise beyond her years as well as smart. Over all, excellent chapter and I can't wait to see you represent Scorpius as Mr Darcy. :) 10/10

Author's Response: Oh yay, I'm so glad that the style is working out! At first, I wasn't sure whether I could get into the right rhythm and find the balance between polite language and quiet satire, but it's kind of there, and I'm very pleased that you liked it! :D

Rose does seem like a Lizzy-ish character. I don't know what it is - perhaps the combination of her parents making her both witty, outspoken, and impulsive. She's pretty independent too, or I'd like to imagine her as such. ;) Scorpius as Darcy is the real coup of this story, and the character I'm most itching to explore - it'll be a great experience!

Thank you very much for reading and reviewing this story! It was a great surprise to see your reviews - I appreciate hearing from you! ^_^
